Ask a questionAbout Kristy Darnell
Hi, I'm Kristy. My husband and I bought and moved into the Lilac Cabin in 2005. We were both born and raised in the Bay Area. Not until we were searching for a house to buy in the greater Bay Area did we learn about the tiny town of Boulder Creek. We took a leap of faith and bought this house. Never in our wildest dreams did we understand how wonderful it was to wake up to the forest and commute back home after a long day and find ourselves in the redwoods. In 2006 and 2008, we brought our boys home from the hospital to our house in the woods. In 2008 we expanded the house which was originally 815 square feet and added on an additional 500 square feet. Can you tell where the house was added on to? We raised our boys in the redwoods for the early part of their lives until my husbands work required us to move to the Los Angeles area around 2012. We were very reluctant to leave, loving our mountain home and having had made many friends and memories there. With the boys in preschool in Los Angeles, we were still able to come up and stay at the house intermittently and go back down to Los Angeles. Then our boys started “real school,” AKA kindergarten. We weren’t able to come up as much anymore. We both worked in Los Angeles. So we had to rent our house out. We had a couple families live in the house for a couple years each. A few months ago our latest tenants had to move out. So, we decided: now, it was time to make a vacation rental with our house. This way we can share our love of the forest with many new people. We can come back and visit. What we want, ideally; is to give a person or persons or family the same experience and feeling as we had when we lived amongst the redwoods. Because it just doesn’t get better than this.
Why Kristy Darnell chose Boulder Creek
This is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom house. There is also an open office with three panoramic doors onto the back deck. The kitchen is fully stocked with supplies, high end cookware and knives. and anything else you need to cook. No detail has been spared to make sure you enjoy your stay in the redwoods.
What makes this house unique
This home has a large deck with redwoods growing through it for you to enjoy! There is a panoramic folding door out to the deck as well as an enclosed atrium with large trees and twinkle lights and ambiance. There is a small freestanding art studio for your projects or just a fun "clubhouse" for the kids. There is also a firepit for roasting s'mores that guests are welcome to use. We use eco-friendly products and keep all plastics to a minimum to encourage an environmentally friendly way of life that is kind to the forests and ocean.
