About this property
Spacious Family-Friendly Cottage on 7.5 acre peaceful wooded area
Enjoy the beauty of nature in all seasons from the comfort of our spacious 5-bedroom/4.5 -bathroom log-style home. Perfect for large or multiple families, Waldhaus can sleep 10 people in beds (12 with pull-out couch) and offers multiple gathering spaces.
Highlights: Updated and fully-equipped kitchen, wheelchair-accessible ground floor master bedroom with roll-in bathroom, spacious driveway and parking spaces, indoor whirlpool, outdoor fire pit, three season room, covered front porch, internet and cable TV, washer/dryer, and plenty of common space for large groups to enjoy in peaceful surroundings free of noise pollution.
This beautiful wooded property boasts 7.5 acres of land with walking paths through cedar meadows and pine forests for all to explore, and lies adjacent to the Mink River Preserve which is ideal for hiking, bird-watching, canoeing, and cross-country skiing.
BIRDWATCHING/ BIRDING: Within walking distance, the Mink River Estuary and Reserve offer an ideal site for birding. Waldhaus is also within a 10-15 minute drive of Ellison Bluff State Natural Area, Newport State Park, and Ridges Bird Sanctuary, among Door County’s numerous parks, land trusts and bird sanctuaries. Consider planning a birding trip with friends. Spring is a great time for birding in Door County, before the height of the tourist season, as most migrating birds have returned by mid-March, waterfowl by mid-April, and shore birds by mid-May.
FISHING GROUPS: Our spacious driveway and 3-seasons room offers ample space to accommodate parking and storage for fishing trips (including trailers and large vans). Nearby Mink River Estuary offers an abundance of panfish, small-mouth bass, and northern pike. Just a half-mile down the road, Rowley’s Bay (a gateway to Lake Michigan) has a variety of fish as well as boat rentals. Waldhaus is 10-20 minutes from popular fishing sites like Sister Bay, Newport State Park, and Bailey’s Harbor. Numerous fishing charters from these and other sites offer trips to choice fishing spots on Lake Michigan and Green Bay.
All renters must be a minimum of 25 years old. Children are welcome.

About the host
Hosted by Julia (Smucker) Rajan
This house has been in our family for over 25 years! We love Door County, and our house has always been a special place for us. We hope you enjoy and make it your own home-away-from-home. We work with our irreplaceable property manager to ensure the best possible experience for our guests and property.
Why they chose this property
Waldhaus, "house in the woods," holds a special place in our hearts. It is situated on 7.5 acres of woods with walking trails that our family has worked to keep well-maintained. We have enjoyed the house and property as our family has grown, and we have continued to remodel and adjust the space to accommodate our own family as well as our renters while still preserving the rustic log-cabin feel.
What makes this property unique
We love the log-cabin feel, the smell of cedar trees, and the serenity and quiet we experience in this special place.
