We are so happy you enjoyed your time here and took advantage of our great location! Hope to host you again sometime soon.
The cabin was nice. It has a kitchenette, so preparing meals was convenient. Cooke City is a very small town, with no cell service, and limited eateries and supplies. So we brought all of our food, including meals that we premade, and just heated up. We came to watch the wildlife in the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park, and Cooke City is minutes away from the East end of the park. Which is a big plus.
Our hosts were so friendly and helpful, it was wonderful.
I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

The cabin was nice. Having to turn the heat down to 60 when out for the day was a drag because it was cold when coming back from a cold ski and the thermostat didn’t seem to match to the heating unit. Everything was fine other than that.

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. About the heater we checked it and it's working fine and asked the customers that left today if the heater was fine and they said yes. Our office is open daily so we sure would have like to have known their was an issue. We also did not see where you filled out our room Maintenance paper. Thanks, Lisa
Great little place to stay to enter the NE Entrance of Yellowstone. I was there by myself to hike and see wildlife and boy did it deliver. Cooke City is VERY small town with no cell service, but Elk Horn Lodge has wifi. There are a handful of places in town to eat if you don’t want to cook. The cabin was clean and the hosts are attentive and kind. Jeff even loaned me a fishing pole for the week although I never ended up using it. Super friendly folks around Elk Horn Lodge. Entry into Yellowstone is a breeze from this side. I waited in line at the entrance only once behind two cars- the rest of the time I was the only one around at the entrance. It was unbelievable compared to the other gates. Also a perfect spot to drive the opposite way to go over the Beartooth Highway and Chief Joseph Highway. Highly recommend both drives and the Elk Horn Lodge.

Thank you so much for the kind and thoughtful review Kevin! We're thrilled to hear you had such a great experience exploring Yellowstone and the surrounding area. It’s always a pleasure hosting guests who come to enjoy the hiking, wildlife, and stunning drives like the Beartooth and Chief Joseph Highways. We're glad the WiFi helped keep you connected, even in our little corner of the world, and that you found the cabin clean and comfortable. Jeff was happy to loan you the fishing pole—maybe next time it’ll get some use! 😊
We truly appreciate you staying with us and hope to welcome you back anytime your adventures bring you this way again. Safe travels!

About the host
Hosted by Lisa Ann Ohlinger
Hi! Jeff and Lisa here. We have been living out our dream since May 2009 operating this family-owned business. We have been captivated by Cooke City since the first time we visited in 1999 and we knew we'd be back to stay.
Why they chose this property
In May 2008, Jeff and Lisa traveled to Cooke City to stay for a week where they found their dream hotel for sale. They talked to the owners, the Hahns, and said if this was next year, we would buy it in a heartbeat. Later that year in the winter, the Ohlingers further looked into owning the hotel but were afraid that it was too big of a risk at the time having such great paying jobs with excellent benefits.
In February 2009, however, the plant that they both worked at, Century Aluminum, closed its doors after 52 years, leaving the Ohlingers and about 700 others without jobs. With nothing left to lose, they decided to take the huge jump and embrace their dreams of owning the Elk Horn Lodge. They sold their new log home that they built themselves and put in a bid for the hotel. The Ohlingers packed up their home in a U-Haul and left their friends, families, and the town they had lived in their entire lives to embark on a new, exciting adventure! After three days of traveling, they pulled their two vehicles and the U-Haul into gorgeous Cooke City, their new home!
What makes this property unique
Our family chose this area as home because of the countless activities. There is so much to do in the summer from wildlife watching, hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, to skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. We enjoy the serenity and adventure of living in such a unique place. We hope you come and find what you have been looking for, just as we have. This rustic mountain town will definitely ease the stress of a hectic day-to-day.
With Yellowstone National Park's Northeast Entrance and scenic Lamar Valley just minutes away, come and experience the wonderful beauty of it all from the comfort of our lodge here in Cooke City!
