About this property
Converted Berkshire schoolhouse on a quiet river
Renovated schoolhouse on a quiet river in the Berkshires. This is the perfect place to unwind. Great for families and friends to relax and reconnect. Take a walk to the waterfalls, play croquet or volleyball on the lawn, gather dinner from our seasonal garden and enjoy 'smores around the fire pit. Very private and woodsy, but close to Butternut for skiing, Great Barrington for shopping and access to all the music and art the Berkshires has to offer. We are very close to some well known restaurants like Cantina 229, Old Inn on the Green and Gedney Farm. Home is stylish, comfortable and inviting. This house is perfectly cozy and you many never want to leave it! We provide all the basic staples ranging from bandaids, shampoo and an iron to coffee, tea, oil, vinegar and some necessary baking items. You will have all the pots and anything in the fridge and cabinets. We have wifi but you can easily unplug if that's what you're looking for. Smart TV to access your own accounts, Great DVD collection for all ages (no cable tv), games like Monopoly and Scrabble, CD collection, BBQ gas grill and charcoal and room to unwind. Don't forget to sign the walls in the downstairs bathroom! Our house is not suitable for toddlers and young children and is not child proofed, we are on a quiet road but there is a river so you will need to use your judgment and be safe. As for pets, we are not equipped for them and not a suitable place for them. We don't even bring our own dogs and cat. We are surrounded by beautiful serene woods but those woods have poison ivy and ticks. You don't want your lovely animals to mess with all that and suffer. And we don't want them bringing those elements inside the house. Thank you for your understanding.

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
The location of the home was lovely and perfect for spending a week in the Berkshires. The property has beautiful flowers and trees alongside a river whose sounds create a peaceful atmosphere. We spent much of our time in the screened in porch. The house is close to a large waterfalls which we visited a number of times. Everything you need is within 20 minutes. The area is spectacular.

Thank you so much, Beth. We loved having you. Come back anytime.
This fantastic house and location was perfect for our 4 day getaway, Kate has done an excellent job with renovations, cool and comfortable decor, and providing everything one can think of to make our stay so satisfying. The house was clean, well-appointed in every room, including the kitchen. The king bed was very comfortable, bathrooms were great also. Cool library, stereo system, lots of nice living space. 3 season porch is one of the highlights of the house. This place has such a wonderful vibe and Kate was easy to communicate with and quick responses. We would highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Thank you so much, Bas. I am so glad you both enjoyed your stay. I love that you came from so far away and even though the pandemic messed up your first reservation, we were able to finally get you traveling again!
Hi Wendy, We were so glad to welcome you and so very glad you enjoyed your stay. Not sure what you meant by "rustic"? The bathroom is exquisite and brand new, the full kitchen is well stocked with everything you might need including a popcorn maker, every pot and pan you can imagine, blender, coffee, staples, etc. Super fast wifi and Smart TV if you want access to that as well. We are nestled in the woods by the river, but the house is incredibly well-appointed and beautifully decorated and not like a cabin. Hope that clarifies a little for anyone else looking to enjoy our home. Thanks, Kate
Having grown up in New England, but now living in Florida, we planned this visit to enjoy some wintertime activities. House was cozy and a perfect location for day trips for hiking, snow tubing, shopping, and exploring the Berkshires. Would definitely stay here again.

Thank you so much, Jill! What a great compliment! Please come back and enjoy the house anytime.
We had a great stay and especially enjoyed the edible garden planted with veggies and herbs, the instructions for great walks in the area as well as other places of interest and most of all the amazing screened in porch where we spent a good part of our days.

Martha - Thank you so very much. I am so glad you had a good time and enjoyed the garden and the porch and all the walks. We are truly surrounded by nature. Come back anytime.
This is the best property I have stayed at with my family. The house is gorgeous and very well maintained - the porch in particular was everyone's favourite place to hang out! The place is secluded, which is just what we were looking for. Great hikes for people of all levels. Already planning a return trip!

Thank you so much, Nancy! I really am so glad you enjoyed yourselves. Come back anytime!
Very pleasant stay. House well lovely and furnished but could use a wool blanket or warmer quilt for the king-sized bed. Good informatin on the area. Great side yard and screened porch. The blueberry bush seems to have disappeared.
Great house in a wonderful, peaceful location. I especially love the screened in porch, fireflies and sound of the stream behind the house. Kate is helpful and responsive. Given storms in the area on this visit, I was especially appreciative of the generator that kept the power on during a few power outages.
Beautiful house and property.
Real perk: beautiful screened in porch.
Host leaves extensive instructions and recommendations.
Very comfortable and well stocked kitchen.

Thank you so much, Martha. I am so glad you and your friends enjoyed yourselves. That makes us so happy! Come back anytime.
This home was such a wonderful escape for us. We hiked to the beautiful waterfall, prepared food directly from the garden and sat on the screened in porch for hours talking and listening to sounds of water nearby. It was magical and we hope to come back next year!

Elizabeth was a great guest and deserves 5 stars for House Rules. I unfortunately had trouble with my thumbs and pushed the wrong star! She was a great guest - let me state that clearly!
Elizabeth - thank you for your lovely review! That makes us so very happy. I am so glad that you came -Please Come back anytime and enjoy it again! You are always welcome.
This lovely house was just the right size for our group of 5, with a well equipped kitchen and plenty to read and watch in the evenings. It's a great base for exploring all that the Berkshires have to offer, and has much more charm than a condo or hotel room. When the power went off briefly during a rainstorm overnight, the generator kicked in seamlessly, and the system switched right back over when the power returned an hour or two later. We do a lot of vacation rentals, and this one is now on our favorites list.
We had a great time at this beautiful home. We loved the touches in the house and we found everything we needed. Loved the new bathroom and finishings upstairs and the bed was super comfy. Our quick getaway was perfect. Kate’s trail guide and info about the area were very helpful. Would love to come back in a warmer season to enjoy the fire pit and listen to the river right behind.
