Southern Comfort- Lake Front | 2 Level Dock | Paved Roads and Driveway
Standing tall on the lakeshore, its steeply pointed roof and angled deck resembling the prow of a ship, the Blue Ridge mountain cabin rental Southern Comfort offers you two vacation destinations in one: a magnificent mountain retreat and an aquatic playground that boating, fishing and swimming enthusiasts will love.
Located on Lake Blue Ridge near Morganton boat launch, this lovely lakefront property comes with its own double-decker dock on 3 feet of water with boat slip below suitable for pontoon boats (available May to August) and lounging area above with umbrella-shaded table, chairs and lounges. If you settle in there or on the cabin's double deck, you'll be treated to a magnificent year-round view. Sunsets are especially incredible, with the sun shining on the lake as it dips behind the mountains.
Southern Comfort has an all-wood interior, cooled by ceiling fans in every room and is designed with an open plan on the main level, with floor to vaulted ceiling windows facing the lake that optimize the spectacular view. You'll find a mix of comfortable leather and rustic log furniture, stone gas fireplace, and such unique touches as an antler chandelier and table base, saddle bar stools, a rowboat bookcase, and a custom stone hood over the kitchen stove.
The kitchen also features stainless steel electric appliances, maple cabinets and countertops, a crockpot, and a coffeemaker, with seating for six at the dining table and two at the breakfast bar. When you want to dine outside, just fire up the gas grill, located on the covered deck on the main level. There's also a screened-in porch on the lower level, with a gas fire pit, so don't forget the marshmallows!
Southern Comfort has a game room with 60” DVD-equipped TV, board games, and books, and three cozy, comfortable bedrooms, all with handsome log furniture. The upstairs master suite has a vaulted ceiling, 32” Smart TV, walk-in closet, and bathroom with double sinks and soaking tub. The main level bedroom has a queen bed and 32” Smart TV, and a separate bath with walk-in shower, and the downstairs bedroom has a pair of twin beds. The adjacent bathroom has double sinks and a double size shower with dual showerheads. All bathrooms have wood cabinets and countertops, and hair dryers.

The house was gorgeous! The attention to detail with the wood beams to the wood furniture and fixtures in the bathrooms were outstanding. The double shower in the downstairs bathroom was my dream shower and that is the only one we used. Even the landscaping was beautiful. The only bummer was the lake level but we knew that from researching the area. Some people will get freaked out by the driveway. Kinda steep but you get used to it.

We LOVED the house and we enjoyed hanging out on the boat dock and relaxing. The views were spectacular. Lingering over coffee on the deck every morning was a must. So close to town , shopping, food, hiking, and the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. So much do to but also a great place to do nothing!

Thank you Tina for your wonderful review of Southern Comfort cabin. It sounds like you had a very relaxing stay drinking coffee admiring the lake. We trust you will come back and visit us again.
There's no need to leave this perfect lakeside cabin...start with coffee on one of two covered porches, swim right off the boat dock, walk to the beach and rent kayaks or paddle boards, then watch the sun set at the end of your day.

The floor plan is one bedroom on each level. So it’s very easy to get some privacy while staying with a group. The public beach is right around the corner and was great for swimming ($5 cash to park). The marina is also very close. We really enjoyed our stay.

The property offered lots of seating outside to enjoy the view. The kids were able to swim right by dock and had a lot of fun. We were able to bring out boat and dock it right outside the cabin. Each level had its own bathroom and allowed each family their own space.

Quiet clean getaway, water is low in the winter and early spring but you are here for the views anyways. Minutes to supplies if needed and good central point for a number of hiking trails. Ready to go back

My family and I had an awesome time at this cabin. We got there and was pleasantly surprised at how clean the place was. You could see that the owners took great care of the place. We felt right at home! The only thing I would say, is that there wasn't any heat downstairs on the basement level. Two of my kids stayed down there but good thing the like the cold...lol. The bathroom however was heated, which was a very nice touch. All in all I would still rate this place 5 stars! I would definitely recommend it to others. We will go back to experience it in the summer...

Such a cool cabin on Blue Ridge lake! We got there Saturday and stayed thru Monday night. The views from the deck on the main level of the house and down on top of the dock are amazing all day but especially for the sunset. The deck is sizable and has a very nice Weber grill out there and some perfect chairs for looking out. The whole house was very well put together with a lot of lighting, all the modern amenities and a great overall design. The whole place is very nice and the raw wood and cowboy theme shines through perfectly all throughout the house. Just be ready for stairs as there are three levels in the house and a good three sets to get down to the water, but we didn't mind as we don't have any living in a ground level apartment. We would absolutely stay here again the next time we're up in the area!

Thank you for staying with us at Southern Comfort. We appreciate your kind review about the cabin and the fun you had. We hope to see you again soon in Blue Ridge.
No water on this part of the lake! Photos inaccurate
We visited the property on Labor Day weekend hoping to enjoy a weekend of water-based activities from the dock. We were very surprised to find the water around the dock was completely dried up. We had brought water toys and fishing gear and before arrival had inquired with rental company about renting a boat to dock in the slip. Thank goodness there were no boats available for rental that weekend because we would have had nowhere to put a boat.
Fortunately on our last day some kind neighbors saw our kids wading around in mud on the side of the dock and offered to let us swim off their dock, which we did.
Being a careful trip planner, I was surprised that I had missed that this property was on such a shallow part of the lake when I booked. I went back and read the reviews and description of the property. The only mention of the fact that this property is on a dried up cove was near the bottom listing of amenities where it said "dock (available May to August)." This could mean many things, not necessarily that there is no water in this part of the lake the rest of the year.
After our trip I wrote an email to the management company about our experience and received no response.
I do see that now they have added mention of the slip being available only May to August in the main description, and another reviewer who stayed there after us mentioned the dried up property.
A full, transparent explanation from the property owner that this home is on a cove that only has water in it from May to August is needed.
I typically do not write reviews but wanted to spare others from disappointment based on an inaccurate description.
The home itself was lovely and would be great when this part of the lake has water in it. I'm still not clear when that would be, as we do not live in the area. Neighboring properties appeared to be on deep water, as we saw them using their boats and swimming.
Please see our photos of the dock from our trip.
First time visiting Blue Ridge Lake, it was absolutely gorgeous! We stayed the week after Labor Day and had the entire lake to ourselves. This cabin was the perfect size for our family of four, great location and view of the sunset each night. Pay attention to the time of year you book if you plan to bring a boat and use the dock because the dock was beached the first week of September. Be sure to ask about the water level because this cove is dry certain times of the year (after August 31). We want to stay at this same spot during the Summer, everything else was absolutely perfect.

The house was spotless and the kitchen was very well-stocked. We enjoyed swimming from the dock and relaxing on both porches. Loved the gas fire pit - it was so easy to use. We wished we had rented kayaks/canoes/paddle boards to bring with us. The marina was booked up for rentals when we were there. We would love to come back to stay.
