I was lucky enough to find the Blue Cottage for an extended stay when I took a new job in the area. The cottage is perfect for a small party. The Cottage was supplied with everything i the kitchen. Bed was comfortable and the furniture well suited for the size of the cottage. Sunnie and Joe were accommodating and great to work with. The Cottage is just a couple of blocks away from downtown White Salmon which offers fine restaurants, bakery, pizza parlor and brewery. I would recommend the Blue Cottage to couples looking for a home base for their Gorge vacation.

Quite small but worked. From a corner of deck can see Mt Hood on a clear day. Can walk to a pleasant small downtown. Kitchen was well supplied. Bed comfortable. Bathroom RV size but doable.
As a sofa the futon was lumpy and uncomfortable, so no good place to sit. Directions for using TV non existent and when asked were not helpful. The 1/2 step up was hard to distinguish and I almost fell twice. (How about using your red blocks for the edge and secure all of them). Controls to space heaters on floor, one was behind futon. Really? Hard to reach and impossible to see temp. The 1/2 step down to bedroom tripped us both up a number of times.
Enjoyed our stay, nice view. Unfortunately, had to check out a day early (Friday, instead of Saturday) due to the fact that windows in the home didn't open and the AC window unit was not sufficient to cool the bedroom with the layout of the house. It was in the 80s and the house was just too stuffy. Had I known that, I probably would not have booked the house unfortunately.
The property had a nice location up on the hill for views and next to a nice park when I needed space from the tiny cottage. Since there was no umbrella for the front deck it was just too hot to use it and joy the view. Easy to walk into town and to the grocery store. Very cute inside and the bed was comfortable as a critical factor. It is very small but being on my own it was fine. Some work should be done to the property for example, the dead yard was a mess so a bit "creepy" looking. Only 2 windows of the 3 that open had screens and the 2 screens were in poor condition letting in bugs. The cross ventilation isn't great and no insulation so not a good place on hot days even with the little front room AC. The exterior pictures on the site are old. I never did get the TV to work and didn't bother to reach out to the owners. I did however have to contact them for the correct internet information and they were very responsive. White Salmon is a great location to explore the WA side of the gorge.

August in the Gorge
The cottage is adequate. We left a list of attention seeking fixes. Items included general maintenance that are overdue. Air Conditioning and air flow were very inadequate. We much appreciated the welcome for our dog and good cooking pots.
This cottage is in a great location, close to town and to the bridge to get across the gorge, yet on a very quiet street. It has a lovely view of Mt Hood from the porch, which I took in every morning! Having a kitchen & grill allowed us to have dinners at home, eating on the porch, enjoying the view, instead of eating out. Though the local food establishments are great as well. I can vouch for the Baking Company's breakfast (a couple of times)...it's fantastic!
The cherries from the tree out front provided us with lots of snacks and were probably the best cherries I've ever had!
There are only 2 windows that really open to allow a cross breeze, which when it's breezy is quite refreshing, but when it's not, can be a little stuffy. Fortunately, during the day you can leave the front door open for great ventilation.
It was a nice place for us to spend a week as home-base to travel to and from. My brother got married in Husum so that worked out well.

Clean, little cottage, nice neigourhood
Description of cottage is accurate as stated by owners. We stayed here for a month and were very comfortable. Air conditioning was adequate, all appliances worked well, unit was clean and in a fairly quiet neighbourhood. We are budget orientated renters and this unit suited our needs well. We would stay here again.

Cozy home for a long stay
I stayed here for a month while on a work contract in Hood River. It was a great home base for me. The bed was comfy, the kitchen was easy to make meals in, and the porch and view of Mt Hood were excellent. The internet wasn't quite what I needed for some work files, but is sufficient to browse the internet and stream music. I enjoyed being able to walk to restaurants in downtown White Salmon. I would stay here again!

Charming, clean cottage with understanding/nice owners
Unfortunately our stay was cut short due to Eagle Creek fire. We enjoyed our short stay, however, the air conditioner was inadequate due to unusually hot weather. AC filter was extremely clogged. We cleaned it and then proceeded to purchase fan to use in bedroom. Owners were very understanding when we chose to leave early due to fire and smoke conditions. Also it was unclear in property description that TV was only available if you were a subscriber to a streaming service. We did find a excellent bakery within walking distance for our morning breakfasts!

fun getaway cottage!
Sunnie and Joe were responsive and friendly hosts. If there was anything needed, they were quick to resolve the matter. The cottage is cozy, but stayed cool even during a heat wave. It has everything you need, but definitely just for two people.
The neighbors are quiet and friendly. The close proximity to the downtown allowed one of us to go windsurfing, while the other did yoga.

Perfect location - loved the views of Mt. Hood
The blue cottage was the perfect spot for my two week stay in town! It was really nice to be able to grill on the deck while looking out over the vista with Mt. Hood in the background. It was the perfect size for just me and my dog - more spacious than the pictures look. It would be a little crowded for my taste for anymore than a couple staying for more than a night or two.

Quaint accommodations, excellent location to visit the Gorge
We were very happy to find a location such as this to visit the Mt Hood/Gorge area. The accommodation is good at a fair price. Aside from the window coverings being badly in need of replacing, the bed was very comfortable for a great night's sleep. The kitchen is well-equipped and the sheets and towels were of nice quality. The White Salmon/Bingen area has many good places to eat, is convenient to a park (excellent for dog owners), and the town vibe is welcoming. We would stay here again. The host may want to update the Amenities listed, as we were disappointed that there was no DVD player, stereo, or "TV" as advertised. A large CRT/DVD Combo in storage was offered; we opted to not carry it in and move things around. The TV has no cable or antenna provided to watch even weather - important in the area; it is a "Smart" TV so you may log in with your Netflix, Hulu, etc. - not what we expected. I was unable to utilize the WiFi with my laptop, even following the instructions to reset the system. Maybe the password made available needs to also be updated?

cozy
Reviews can be important. Noted one negative review calling it a 'shack'. Sure it's a little funky with rough exterior and the AC unit sticking out the window, but also totally nice inside with bamboo hardwood floors, nice paint and clean. And yes the dogs next door were occasionally noisy but never at night and they usually settled down pretty quick. Quiet and comfortable with a good kitchen. If you need to have a more spacious sleek modern rental with larger fridge, W/D and laundry, you'll pay a bit more but if you just need a comfy home for a few days this one is great. I plan to stay here again. Owners are nice and responsive and will do whatever to keep you happy. (have to use a lighter, not the peizo starter for the grill) And of course the outdoor recreation scene is amazing!!

great alternative to a hotel!
my Mom and I needed a place to stay for my niece's graduation and all the hotels were sold out. Thank goodness because I found this charming cottage instead! Very small but perfectly laid out for a couple or two people with the comfy fold out futon. Wonderful deck to have morning coffee and check out Mt Hood too! Plus, adorable White Salmon Main street is just two blocks away!

Home sweet home
first the house was very clean. It is a small place but the bedroom was sufficient size with a queen bed, armoire, a dresser and a chair. The living area was also cleverly furnished and provided coziness. The bed felt very comfortable and the futon was a quality one. The dining table and the chairs were in good shape as well.
I felt at home at this cute charming place staying for an extended period. It is very quiet and private as it sits on a quiet residential street next to a church which has almost no traffic. Even on Sundays I was able to sleep in. The best part is the view from the kitchen/dining and the nice sized deck. And also it was nice to be able to walk to town for coffee, diner and groceries.
Everyday I walked my dog to the park across the Main Street to get her exercised which was a treat not having to drive anywhere.
I hope to stay here again when I return.

Truly charming and relaxing
This is truly a charming cottage with character. We stayed here for over a week and enjoyed the quietness and privacy as well as the cozy setup. The deck has a great view of Mt Hood and the BBQ we used almost everyday. The house was very clean and has comfortable furniture. The bed was quite comfortable (on the firm side which suits us due to my back problem). The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed for cooking our gourmet meals.
I would recommend this place to anyone and will return again next year. Thanks to the owner, too, who was quite responsive and personable.

Run-down shack
I have honestly never written a poor review, but my family and I were incredibly disappointed with this property. It was clean, I will give it that much. However, the furniture was incredibly uncomfortable. One of the kitchen chairs were broken when we arrived and I almost fell off of it during our first meal. The bed seemed like it would have been uncomfortable 40 years ago, and now it's just a skeleton with springs poking you in the back and abdomen as you sleep. This bed was so uncomfortable, my husband and I needed to see a chiropractor after our visit. The house is tiny and run down. There is a curtain separating the main "house" from the "bedroom". The curtain was poorly mounted on the wall and preemptively fell on my 11-month-old daughter as she was crawling around. The swing outside is old and rusted, the treehouse is held together with duck tape. The neighbors have dogs that bark 24/7, and there are trains that run through town and will keep you up through all hours of the night. The bedroom windows are right next door to a church parking lot, so there is constant noise from traffic. I can say with complete honesty that we will never return to the blue sky cottage. In fact, we were so miserable there, we came home a day early. It definitely was not the relaxing vacation we were hoping for.

We welcome constructive feedback and always try to improve our house.
Here are some of our responses to the feedback:
→ Kitchen chair: Our cleaning person checks and maintains the house after each check-out. If the broken chair was an oversight, we apologize. And, thanks for letting us know. We will replace it.
→ Bed: It’s been less than 2 years since we have replaced the mattress. Each year, we assess the bed to make sure it’s in good shape. The description of the bed is certainly not true.
→ Small & run down: Our description in VRBO indicates that it is a small cottage perfect for a single or couple. The kitchen was remodeled a few years ago, and the hardwood floor in the bedroom was also done a few years ago. We do need to paint the exterior in the next year or so, but “run-down” is an exaggeration.
→ Curtain: If the curtain was pulled, it would most likely fall. We will make sure to secure it.
→ Treehouse: the treehouse is strictly off-limits as described in the Policy Statement. No one should be climbing up the treehouse.
→ Train noise: There is a train track in Bingen, a town below White Salmon. We rarely hear the train running. If we do, it’s a nostalgic background noise, which most people enjoy.
→ Parking traffic noise: The only time there are cars being parked is on Sunday before and after the morning service which amounts to be less than an hour. Other than that, it is very quite.
Please review other feedback in order to get the realistic view points of the house.
Thanks.

Darling cottage
This small cottage had all of the necessary amenities for a couple + our lab. Close to town, and a wonderful park down the street for our dog to run. Kitchen was great and the deck had a lovely view. Easy access to the bridge and Hood river. Internet was a little "spotty" at times, and no T.V. but we didn't miss them. The exterior of the property was a little run down, but the cottage was very clean. We would come back to this location.

Nice and simple place for a couple or couple with 1 child.
I've been staying at this place regularly for 4 or 5 years now. The place is small but efficient and has everything you need to cook a decent meal and relax on the porch at sunset. The place is in a very quiet neighborhood that is within walking distance of a nice park and White Salmon's main street. Definitely too small for more than a couple with 1 child. The location is great if you wind/kite surf WA sites like Swell, the Hatchery or Doug's etc. which are all only a few minutes drive away. White Salmon has a few decent places that you can walk to for meals if you want to go out. The only negative about the place is that the A/C is a tad underpowered and could be upgraded to something that can cool the place down in less than 3 hours. This is a minor issue and only becomes one during the few hot days that White Salmon receives in late July or early August. The owners are VERY responsive to contact and the place is definitely a good bang for the buck and I'll be happy to continue to come here regularly. I would definitely recommend this place!

About the host
Hosted by Sunnie & Joe
We are a family of 4 and love the Gorge. We love to windsurf, wingfoil, climb, bike, SUP, ski, or just hang out at our house at the Gorge with our two kids.
Why they chose this property
We bought the property for us to use to windsurf. We like this location since it's close to our favorite windsurfing spots, the Hatchery and Doug's Beach. We also like the laid-back small town feel of White Salmon with a few good restaurants.
What makes this property unique
It's quiet and private with a wonderful Mt. Hood view from the front of the house/deck. It's also very cozy and comfortable and has fully equipped kitchen. We love staying at our cottage, and our kids love the swing on the yard.
