About this property
Quiet Arkansas River Hideaway
Book this remost cabin -- off the beaten path -- and get away from it all! For late fall/winter rentals: Before you fall in love -- be sure that you know that this quiet, secluded slice of heaven is just a smidge more than 1/4 mile beyond the county maintenance line. (Translation: no snow plows!) Because of that, guests are required to have a four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle for their winter/early spring stay. Summer does not present this challenge! Getting stuck in snow on the 1/4 mile part that is not plowed could mean problems for other motorists. There is no "dig out" service. Don't let this discourage you! Adventure awaits -- just be sure to bring the right vehicle. In 15+ years of having guests year-round, and using it ourselves, we have not had a problem. We continuously hear just how fun winter is at the cabin!
Do you have a desire for a secluded getaway? This slice of heaven is your getaway destination! Think about the constant sound of water from the stream, games, movies, outdoor fun, hiking, biking, zip lining, Royal Gorge, a trip to the Sand Dunes, and enjoying the art galleries and restaurants in Salida. This unique home is wonderful year-round!
Are you someone who appreciates and wants to show others the beauty and tranquility of this amazing, relaxing piece of heaven? Do you love the sound of a stream from any open window in the house? Come stay in our quiet, clean getaway! We LOVE it and know you (and your children or grandchildren) will too.
It is a 1200 square feet retreat, and has been detailed to make your stay comfortable and memorable.
The pet-free, smoke-free house itself has two bedrooms, one bathroom, and a living room with two futons -- all totaling two queen sized beds, two full sized beds, and two twin beds. The kitchen is fully equipped for any meal, fresh ground coffee, an apres ski treat, or family barbeque. The kitchen table seats six, with room for three more at the breakfast bar. The house sits on more than an acre, which lends itself to short or long walks, enjoying the stream (which runs year round, and is just yards from the house), smelling the fresh mountain air, sitting outside and reading a book -- or doing some artwork!
The nearby town of Salida boasts many activities: art galleries galore, indoor hot springs pool, bowling, hatchery, lakes, biking, hiking, fly fishing, white water rafting, winery, live theatre, dining, pubs, summer and holiday events, horseback riding, go-kart riding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling . . . . Do all of that -- and then -- come back to our hideaway and watch wildlife, have a glass of wine by the stream, play horseshoes or badminton, read a book, take some pictures, see a movie, cook a feast, listen to music, and sleep to the sound of the Cherry Creek right outside your window. We have books, movies, and DVD capacity.
This is a year-round playground! Summer hikes, winter moonlight snowshoeing (snowshoes provided for three), mushroom hunts, and fall color photography. There is never a bad time to visit.
For parents and grandparents: Know that there are books, toys and games, a pack-n-play with crib sheets, bathroom step stool, and booster seat for a little one!
Please feel free to ask for more photos or details! Once booked, you will have access to the owner for questions, details, and any thoughts about what to do in the area.

Can't find the words to describe how great this place was. The cabin was immaculate when we got there. The host was there every step of the way for us and extremely kind. The place was in the mountains so the only thing you can hear is the creek behind it. It was amazing.
The host is great and genuinely cares about the experience of the guests! She’s taken great care to ensure that the cabin feels like home, from ample towels, purified water, quality dishes and cooking utensils, comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, cozy designing. The property is amazing! The cabin is cozy but big enough that you’re not tripping over each other, great star gazing, and zen inducing stream!

Ryan, thank you for taking the time to write a review. You guys were awesome yourselves! Please come back again -- and soon! Seriously. You truly know how to "cabin!"
We really enjoyed our stay in the cabin. Quiet and surrounded by trees, we liked watching birds and butterflies while sitting by the stream. The cabin was very clean and comfortable, it had everything we needed.

Thank you, Amy! I would love to know if you know the birds in the area. I am happy that you found it clean and comfortable. Those are two of our favorite adjectives for the cabin! Please come again!
We had an absolutely amazing time in this cozy cabin! This cabin was conveniently close to both Salida and Canon City! The location of the cabin was perfectly tucked away in the mountain and the trickling creek was an added bonus.

We throughly enjoyed our stay. The owner/host goes above and beyond with her communication. If you want to unplug form the world it is the perfect place to do it.

Thanks a million, Brian! I'm sorry that I was unable to add an additional night, but it was booked! Please come again -- and know you're always welcome!
This is a very nice, quiet, peaceful cabin. The Arkansas River runs right in front and the rushing stream can be heard all night with the windows open. It's clean, offers a well-stocked kitchen, and more creature comforts than we were expecting. Great place to stay!
Really couldn’t have asked for a nicer, more peaceful place to just hang out for a few days. The morning coffee and evening chats on the deck while listening to the creek was priceless.
This was a fantastic home away from home! The location was magical along side the creek, the owner was helpful and friendly, and the home itself was comfortable and so awesome! Make sure to do a day trip to Salida which is a beautiful artsy town!

Thank you, Anita! Your review helps others to know what to book for their trip! I appreciate your kind words, and I hope to see you both up here again soon!
Tanya's slice of heaven was just what we needed for a quick weekend getaway. The cabin is away from it all, easy to get to, and Tanya was super helpful and friendly. Kitchen was great for cooking, the cute little stream was a wonderful backdrop when sitting on the deck grilling with a few cocktails, and the drive to Salida offers many opportunities to pull off on the river and find a simming/fishing hole. We'll be back again!

Matt, thank you for taking the time to leave such kind words. I hope you're back soon. You're the perfect guest. Perhaps you'll try it again in the fall?
Exactly what was needed for our family. We all enjoyed the sound of the creek while we were sleeping and eating meals. Everything is there that you need. Our sons also enjoyed playing us songs on the piano while we cooked each day. Host is extremely responsive and helpful. Beautiful drive from the cabin to Salida, is about 15min. We will be back!

About the host
Hosted by Tanya Kriss
I live in the Denver area, and love bringing my two children up to the cabin for weekend getaways. We use the cabin whenever we get a chance, but we also enjoy sharing it with other families! Through the years of renting out my cabin, I have met some really great people, and have "seen" families make some wonderful memories. There are many repeat guests who have made this special place a part of their family history.
Why they chose this property
The entire area offers an unlimited number of activities for couples, families, friends, and individuals. The views, the fresh air, the mountain smells, the rushing stream... how can you even narrow down the best part? As a family, we have had a number of unforgettable experiences -- from the white water rafting and ziplining to quiet family movie nights and night hikes. This area is hands down our favorite place to be... we plan our trips to the cabin as frequently as our schedule will allow... and we always have a difficult time leaving.
What makes this property unique
One of the best things about this cabin is the water! The stream and the sound of running water is truly relaxing. The house is clean, comfortable, and perfectly located for the many activities the Salida area has to offer. It is perfect for a family, an adventurer, a fisher, a hiker, a cook, a napper, a cyclist, an artist, or a reader. Salida is a slice of heaven, and we know anyone who spends any time there would agree!
