About this property

Hunker down in a Hamptons house, huge yard, near beaches & village

A traditional house with a huge 1.7 acre yard, ringed by trees, with an organic lawn and solar-heated pool, perfect for a couple or family. Kids love having room for soccer or croquet, and playing on the swingset. The 3 bedrooms include a huge master suite and all have a/c and great natural light. The full-size traditional kitchen and outdoor propane grill are terrific for cooks, and there is a piano for musicians. Mecox Bay, Flying Point Beach and Southampton Village are a 10-minute drive, and the Jitney stop is a pretty 15-minute walk. Sorry, no pets.

Location is Amazing - Bathrooms Aren't

The property itself is beautiful. It has a huge yard and the pool is wonderful. Also, the location can't be beaten. You are close to the beach, Watermill, Bridgehampton and Southhampton. The house is another story. The listing says that it has 2 full bathrooms and a half bath. This is not the case. The master bathroom is in the middle of the room, open to the bedroom. There is a divider in front of the toilet, but if you like privacy while on the toilet - this isn't for you. The second bathroom didn't have a functioning shower. The water was either scalding hot or freezing cold (with two kids this is not ideal). The owner called a plumber, but short of replacing the entire shower, it was not fixable. This bathroom also had grasscloth on the floor complete with unidentified stains and had not been remodeled for at least 30 years. Because this shower wasn't functional we ALL had to shower in the "master" shower in the middle of the bedroom. The house also has a lot of bugs. I understand we are in the country, but there were tons of flying beetles as well as baby grasshoppers all over the house. We asked the owner to call an exterminator but he couldn't get anyone to come until a few days before we left and at that point, it was too late. If you need functional bathrooms, this is not the house for you. I gave it three stars only because of the pool, yard, and location. The house itself is definitely more like 2 stars.

Leah: I am glad you enjoyed our property and its location. Regarding your feedback on our house: to be fair, we bent over backwards for you, with immediate responses to complaints, and booked contractor visits without any debates or pushback at all. Regarding the master bath, the photos are very accurate on VRBO. The master bath setup allows for beautiful light from three sides of the room instead of blocking walls, and is not a traditional separate room. The other full bath is older, but its shower has been used regularly by renters and by ourselves, including after your visit-- you fiddle with the hot & cold knobs to get to warm, which is pretty normal. Our doors and windows are all screened to keep most bugs out, but in the country, some beetles can sneak in-- they do not bite (there were no crickets in the house Sunday, so maybe a door was left open sometime).
