Wedding Stay

We stayed here the night before to get ready for our wedding and the night of wedding to come back too. We were so impressed from when we first walked into the house, it is beautifully decorated and had everything we needed in it. It was awesome to get ready there plenty of room and lots of showers to choose from. We even ended up taking our photos around the house instead of Rabbit Island cause it was to wet and windy to go there. There were plenty of places around the house perfect for photos. Great to come back there too and lovely and cosy with the fire going, had amazing sleeps in the lovely comfortable beds.

Family gathering made perfect

We had the best week staying here with a large group of extended family. The hosts were very helpful in the planning stages, working with me to make sure the property was right for our needs. Everything exceeded our expectations - the huts are just so gorgeous and perfect for many of our teenage guests. The shared kitchen and living facilities at the huts were just so quaint and comfortable. The outdoor baths were a hit as was the outdoor fire. The large house meant we could gather comfortably together. The location was brilliant - nice and close to Mapua, close to supermarkets, great walk to Rabbit Island. We just loved everything!!!

Beautiful House and amazing setting, will be back !

From the start and to finish renting this beautiful house for our group 9 adults, was fantastic, Jane was amazing, she answered all my questions and her recommendations were perfect. went to nelson for a cycling race with a large group, this place is perfect, heaps of room beds everywhere, amazing kitchen, open fire, 10 minute drive to Mapua, 20 minute drive to nelson, Hosts were fantastic to deal with

We love making special spaces for our guests to enjoy. We love our property it is a very special place and it lovely that we can share this.

Why they chose this property

This area of New Zealand is very special we have 360 views from the Mt Arthur Ranges to the Richmond Hills - it is like living in a postcard. We also have views to the Waimea Estuary a very special bird sanctuary. And just down the road is Rabbit Island - a stunning beach that is quiet all year round. We are also minutes from Rough Island Equestrian park.

Lots of walking, biking trails, picnic and BBQ areas.

If you want peace and quiet come here. We also have rivers close by for fresh water swimming. It is simply a special place.

What makes this property unique

Suitable for special couple getaways or for family reunions, weddings & special occasions. Perfect if you want to bring a group of people together. Lots of public and private spaces.

When you come and stay - our place becomes your place. We do live onsite but remote from both Appleby House & Rabbit Island Huts. There if you need otherwise we leave you to it.

We are very environmentally focused, our timber is milled locally, our stains for the Huts are 100% organic. We use 100% organic cleaning products or we make our own. Our waste system is the best environmental system possible. We recycle & have a composting system for all left overs. Our linens as much as possible are 100% cotton or linen. We love beautiful fabrics.
We try very hard to have a soft footprint on the land - our focus is to plant as many native plants as possible and allow the bird life to prosper. When we purchased the property it was a bare block - it is so nice to see how this has changed, the bird song now is amazing.
