Fox Run Ocean Cottage

Within 25 minutes of one of the most beautiful national parks in the country lies Fox Run Cottage. Unique in its design, it allows guests to spread out and have their own individual space while enjoying a week away along a stretch of Maine coast that hasn’t changed in decades.

One of the few properties in the area with an expansive lawn, you’ll be spending your time a few steps away from your own private sand and pea gravel beach. Whether your plans include exploring the park every day or relaxing at the cottage, this property affords all the comforts of home with the accessibility to one of the premier vacation areas in New England.

This beautiful 3bedroom 3 bathroom home was recently renovated with lots of thoughtful updates to make it comfortable for a week on the shore. With its relaxed, coastal vibe and sweeping ocean views, we hope you will find it relaxing and inviting. Off a large entry hallway on the first floor, a queen-sized suite with a large living room and adjacent bath looks out over the patio and down to the beach.

The second floor features a large, open concept living space. A sizable living room gives expansive views of the bay, and a fully - equipped kitchen opens to a large dining area. The living and dining spaces open into a queen bedroom and bath on one end, and a king suite with walk-in closet and bath on the other. There is also a dedicated separate laundry space with full-sized stackable washer and dryer.

Bring your paddle board, kayak, and snorkel, as your direct beach access allows you to launch right into the calm waters of the bay. Watch the seals, osprey, and eagles from the seating areas on the patio, from the living room couches and balcony, or while lying in bed. The property faces southwest, and sunsets are equally beautiful from almost every room in the house.

Walk the beach, explore the park, dine at a local lobster pounds or in one of Bar Harbor’s many excellent restaurants, or simply relax on the patio in front of a bonfire and watch the stars. We hope you enjoy our little slice of heaven as much as we do.

Cottage bear Acadia

Very nice home on the water with a spacious grassy area and easy access to the water to kayak. Very clean, comfortable beds, plenty of dishes for a large group, plenty of towels.

Fox Run Ocean Cottage was a beautiful place to stay. It had a wonderful ocean view. It was very clam and peaceful. The house is very convenient to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. There is enough room and space for many people. We loved the sunsets every evening. The host was very responsive to any questions that we had . We throughly enjoyed our visit to this woodsy, charming ,ocean view cottage!

Great Beach Cottage

Spacious, comfortable, and clean cottage right on the beach. Really good location, easy trip to Bar Harbor or Acadia and plenty of places to eat and shop for food in nearby Elllsworth. Hosts are very responsive and have a lot of great tips. Once of the best homes we have rented.

Great Ocean front property

Really cool house with lots of privacy. It is right on the ocean so you can go down at low tide and explorer the beach. Great lawn and fire pit. Everything you could ask for including a lobster pot!

House was nice and clean. Comfy beds and well stocked kitchen. Property manager gave us great recommendations for restaurants and kayaks, which we loved. Beautiful beach location that was so peaceful and only 15-20 minutes to Acadia. Close but not so close you have to battle the crowds and traffic. Great get away location.

This place is stocked with EVERYTHING you might need and more. Fantastic location right on the water. We really enjoyed the fire pit. Very convenient location for Bar Harbor and Acadia, but also away from all the crowds and people. THANK YOU!!

Excellent Location and Setup

This is our second time staying here, the property is well located near MDI / Acadia. The huge yard is great for kids with the beach just a few steps beyond the grass, the fire pit and patio area are fantastic for dinner outside and smores or just watching the spectacular sunset. The home has plenty of space, is well maintained and has everything you need. We will certainly be back.

Wonderful Maine Escape

We loved everything about this stay! The house had everything we could possibly need and the views were amazing. It wasn’t too far from Acadia. Their lawn and beach was perfect! My kids loved playing yard games and looking for shells and sea glass on the beach. The hosts were super helpful and even left us a s’more kit that my 3 kids loved. I will definitely stay here again next time we come to Acadia.

Picture perfect sunsets

The house is clean, well stocked, and very comfortable, and steps away from the beach where we enjoyed kayaking and collecting sea glass. We made use of the fire pit in the evenings to roast marshmallows and sweet potatoes. But our favorite part of the stay was the spectacular sunsets each evening, bidding us good night. Thanks for a lovely week on Union River Bay.

Fantastic!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. The home was an easy drive to all parts of Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. It was lovely to return in the evening to the quiet and tremendous view. The home was well appointed with necessities and even extras, and we were able to easily prepare meals. We appreciated the homeowner sharing recommendations for area restaurants and stores so we could plan accordingly. We would highly recommend this property to anyone considering a stay in the area!

Wonderful place with ocean view

Beautiful house with the ocean right in your back yard. During covid times, it was so reassuring to have such a clean house to call home for the week. We’ve rented from many Vrbo, and this is by far the cleanest. Jo was so attentive and even had clean age appropriate toys for our kids. We spent the days at Acadia and bar Barbour but it was so nice to go back and relax at the house right on the beach. Loved the place and would definitely pick it again in the future.

End of Summer Family Getaway

This is a clean, spacious home on a beautiful piece of beachfront property. The large yard and outdoor areas are perfect for a family to enjoy cooking, eating, and hanging out by the shore. The location was easily accessible to spending several days in Acadia & Bar Harbor and provide a relaxing retreat at the end of the day. The Wifi was sufficient for several of us to work and do virtual classes at the same time. The kitchen is well stocked. Jo is responsive and a pleasure to communicate with.

Wonderful family vacation

My husband, three children and I had a relaxing week-long stay at this wonderful cottage! This was a perfect set up for our young children with three bedrooms and a pull out couch. We enjoyed the view with a glass of wine or coffee while the boys loved climbing on the rocks, exploring the beach at various tide levels and collecting sea glass and sticks that washed up on the beach. The beach is very private, the house is well appointed and in a great location for accessing Mount Desert Island/Bar Harbor and Ellsworth - which had several great restaurant and grocery options when you don't want to deal with the traffic and crowds of MDI! Jo was great to communicate with and provided many recommendations on everything from restaurants to equipment rental. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friend's who wanted to explore beautiful Maine!

If your looking to stay in the bar harbor area this is an amazing place to be. It’s a short drive to bar harbor/Acadia national park, but far enough out that your not in the busyness of everything. The house is beautiful and is such a nice private spot on the beach! Thanks for such a pleasant week!

Amazing Location and Experience

Jo's house was the perfect place for some best friends since high school to celebrate their 60th birthdays and over 45 years of friendship. We picked the perfect week for fall foliage colors and the most amazing sunsets at the property over Union River. We took full advantage of walks on the beach, the fire pit, and the kitchen as we enjoy cooking. We also explored the area, hiked in Acadia National Park, and enjoyed the scenery. The house is conveniently located away from the congestion around Bar Harbor, but easily accessible to Acadia and other sites. I highly recommend this property.

Great Spot for our Family Trip

This was the perfect spot for our trip to Maine. The location is out of the tourist fray but with easy access to everywhere we wanted to go (Acadia, Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Schoodic Peninsula). Jo and Linda provided great recommendations for everything we needed and welcomed us like old friends. Staying in a house on the water was something we always wanted to do and it beat all our expectations. The house was comfortable, clean, and full of amenities. Make sure you look for starfish at low tide, enjoy the sunsets, and have your morning coffee on the deck or patio.

Fox Run Cottage was built in the early 90's by my mother in law's parents. But prior to that my husband grew up exploring all along the shores of this beautiful stretch of shore front when it was just land. This home has been in our family since then, and we have enjoyed countless summers exploring and making memories to last a lifetime.

Why they chose this property

The south west exposure makes the sunsets breathtaking. Where the mountains meet the sea is where I want to be.

What makes this property unique

One of the few sand and pebble beaches on this whole stretch of coastline, it makes it ideal for exploring and lounging. The gentle slopping lawn with direct access to a non rocky beach is what really sets this property apart.
