Casa Fortuna is a minimalist-modern, oceanfront retreat on the beautiful white sand beach of the East Cape. Perched on the apex of the first arroyo off of the highway, the residence boasts staggering ocean views and a private top-of-the-world feel. Secluded off-grid living, but just 20 minutes back into town where world class art, shopping & dining await. Casa Fortuna is an irreplaceable surf-centric local, just, 0.5 miles to the first point of Shipwreck, 2.75 miles to La Fortuna and 5.5 miles to Nine Palms. Whale watch by day from the back pool deck and enjoy stunning sunsets from the front above the Sierra de la Laguna mountain range.
This property is for guests who value the breathtaking beauty of this unique oceanfront retreat over the modern conveniences of a 5 star resort. In the spirit of sustainability and limitations of being off grid, we ask our guests to be good stewards of our limited electricity, water, and propane.
This home is 100% off the grid and is powered by solar with a backup generator. Water and propane are trucked to the property, stored in tanks, and replenished as needed. As long as guests limit spa usage to 3 hours per day, there should be ample power with out the generator kicking on for the duration of your stay. However, during periods of overcast skies, the generator may kick on for a few hours to charge the batteries. We have stayed for many weeks throughout all seasons including cloudy days, without using the generator and with zero problems.
We offer a heated spa which is included in your rent, however, we do not offer a heated pool since the amount of energy used to heat a pool at this off-grid property is prohibitive. The pool and hot tub are cleaned and serviced weekly.
Casa Fortuna has AC units in 2 of the 3 bedrooms. The AC is only operational between June 1 and October 31 and not operational for the remainder of the year. The AC units require the operation of the generator and will not run on the solar system for more than a few hours. Due to the off-grid limitations of the property the AC should only be operated while sleeping. Please check the average temperatures for the time of year you would like to visit and if you feel that you need 24/7 AC, this is not the home for you. Generally it is likely to be hot and uncomfortable June through the end of October.
Kids are welcome, however, due to the home's unique positioning on the sand dune, we have several significant 'drop offs' that do not have fences, railings or gates. In addition, our pool is not fenced and does not have safety features. We do not feel that this property would be safe or appropriate for children less than 3, irresponsible children, heavily intoxicated adults or inattentive parents.
We have 3 security cameras: 1 overlooking the front door, 1 overlooking the garage, 1 overlooking the back beach.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

We enjoyed are stay! Great location and exactly what we wanted. Perfect time of year to go. Weather was amazing and whale watching was incredible.Thank you We would stay here again
We had a great time at this location, the area was perfect and the property manager was able to make our arrival and stay run very smoothly. Hope to make it back!
Stayed with three friends for an east cape surf trip. Great location within striking distance to all the surf spots and a very comfortable home. Casey was very helpful as well. Would definitely stay again!
The location was perfect watching whales right in front of the house, evening visits from mommy donkey and baby and the stars at night just magical❤️🐳🌟
The house is perfect for a relaxing week on the beach. Plenty of sun and sand. It was beautiful to watch the whales from the privacy of your livingroom and the sun rises from the patio was picture perfect. My kids enjoyed looking for creatures in the rocks during low tide and feeding the donkeys on the dirt road. The only thing that I would change is book a longer stay.
This house was exactly as advertised! We enjoyed 5 peaceful, quiet days and nights here. We appreciated the off-grid aspects of this listing very much. We enjoyed whale watching, making most of our own meals in the well-appointed kitchen, looking at the amazing star display from our private hot tub. We were steps away from the sand and made use everyday to take long walks in the surf. We explored tide pools and looked for shells. The dirt road was an added adventure; we will rent 4x4 when we return. Beautiful way to unplug and enjoy the beauty of Baja!
We stayed for three nights. Communication with the owners was great from the first inquiry onward. We loved how the house was built and designed to truly take advantage of the splendid views at every moment. The house had everything you need, but also nice and simple. We visited during what was likely the busiest weekend of the year (Santa Semana), and despite having probably 100+ people camping immediately in front of the house at the public beach access it was hardly noticeable due to the sound of crashing waves. We really enjoyed watching breaching whales and pods of dolphins swim by. I have no hesitation recommending this house to others.
Amazing house on East Cape and exactly as advertised. Walkable to Shipwrecks break, on a beautiful dune above the arroyo, well stocked kitchen as well as comfortable bedroom/bathroom. We were there in mid July which definitely was hot, but the A/C in the main bedroom worked the entire night keeping us plenty comfortable (turned on around 9pm every night). If you are someone that needs constant A/C, a TV, or blazing fast internet... then this isn't right for you. If you're looking for a lovely, well taken care of place; ocean front; near the best breaks on the east cape; and easy access to "town"... then this is an amazing option!
This was the worst property we have ever stayed at. The property states it has AC. This is just false information. If you use the AC unit in the bedroom it drains all the battery charge and you are left WITHOUT POWER...this means no electricity at all. No cell phone. No internet. No way to contact anyone. You are stranded. No refrigerator, so the food in the in the tiny refrigerator rotted, there was no lights in the home, the host left two tiny lanterns and two headlamps. There was no water pressure for the shower. There was no hot water for the first two days. There was cockroaches and ants. There was no seating for my family to eat meals. There were three crappy stools in the kitchen. The igniter on the stop top was broken so if you wanted to cook you had to use a lighter. There was no shade from sun outside. There was a broken umbrella in a bucket of rocks, that's right...no umbrella stand. The property has no BBQ, only a BBQ zone so that means BYOBBQ. The seating in the living room was two crappy love seats...not enough seating for a family of five adults. The outdoor seats were crappy plastic lounge chairs with the thinnest cheapest pads, which blew off the chairs with the slightest wind. There was no heat in the pool. The sides of the pool were filthy, I don't think it is ever cleaned. The water is not filtered in the house so it is not drinkable. There were two old wooded beach chairs and a tiny cheap flimsy beach umbrella. Do not stay here.
Welcomed with fresh guacamole, pico de gallo and ice cold beers waiting for us in the fridge. Love at first sight! This is a total beach house, with everything you need for a relaxing and easy vacay. Communication was outstanding, awesome outdoor space, fantastic kitchen. I loved every minute of my stay at Casa La Fortuna. If you are looking for a peaceful night looking up at the stars, or waking to rolling ocean waves, or chilling by the pool with a good book, look no further. Might just have to pop back in with the family sometime soon. Book it now!
Great space and fantastic pool and beach! We spent our days moving between the pool and the shade. Everything was clean and we loved the snacks left by the property manager!
This was a great house and location. Would definitely rent again if we head to Cabo area. Comfortable and had all amenities needed. Little worried about solar power, but had no issues!
Casey was an excellent host, communicative, and Erickson the property manager prepared fresh pic and guacamole with beers upon our arrival!
Location is excellent and the house is well designed, simple, with everything you could need. It is on solar, and we had some issues running the Air conditioning all night in one room. Our only difficulty with the property but we were well informed before we booked.
Surfing from this location was simple, located a half mile from Shipwrecks - a solid right hand point, and several other breaks were out to the east.
I'd stay again in a heartbeat.
Thanks for the great stay!
Home owner responded quickly and was only a text away if we needed anything. House is very clean and has all essentials.
AMAZING ocean views with no one on the beach 98% of the time. Morning beach walks, be prepared to see no one. Fishing boats, jumping rays, random horses/donkeys/cows are what you will see.
Ocean is very warm this time of year but water is very rough in this stretch of beach. Sound of waves are loud even with doors closed which we didn’t mind.
Sat by pool facing ocean most every day. Pool was great for cooling off.
Airco worked well in bedroom, only used it at night as during the day you can open up the house and let in the ocean breeze and turn on the ceiling fans.
If you’re looking for a place to unplug, kick back and get away from it all, look no further.
