Our family love for Nantucket runs deep, starting when my mother, as a young high schooler, read Moby Dick in English Class, and fell head over heels. Since I was a teenager I've worshipped the beauty, sunshine and history of the island's cobblestone streets, beaches, rosa rugosa filled walking trails and more. We created this home together, renovating it top to bottom as a 3 generation family during covid, to bring more love, joy and slow living into our lives. We look so forward to sharing our island home with you and yours.

Why they chose this property

This happy home, built by a captain in 1900, renovated by 3 generations of our family in the pandemic of 2020, is steeped in history. Captain Arthur McCleave, a descendent of a long line of whaling captains built the house. He was and a follower of the sea since his early youth, and Commodore of the Wharf Rat Club, an island institution with many esteemed members including the late President Franklin D Roosevelt. A member of the Pacific Club and an incredibly skilled seaman, who knew the dangerous shoals of Nantucket intimately, Captain McCleave was chosen to pilot the cable ship to lay a submarine cable in 1916 from Nantucket to the Vineyard to Woods Hole on the Cape. In 1942, age 66, he enlisted in the Coast Guard to serve his country patrolling the Nantucket waters at Squam. He helped rescue two lifeboats filled with 42 survivors that had drifted toward Nantucket from Bermuda.

What makes this property unique

This in town property has a large double lot, with a large private garden, outdoor deck, additional guest cottage, and sits just blocks from Main Street, the beach and ferries.
