We booked this property for our family, and the stay began well. The hosts were responsive before our arrival and kind enough to let our children use their soccer goal. When I developed an infected wound, they also helped me with first aid, which I appreciated.
However, a few days before arrival, they informed us that there would be additional charges for linens and cleaning that had not been disclosed in the listing. That felt underhanded, especially so close to check in. They also requested a cash security deposit equivalent to the cost of our entire stay, outside the booking platform. I declined because I was not comfortable making payments outside the platform.
When we arrived, there was no hand soap, and basic supplies such as garbage bags, toilet paper, coffee filters, coffee, and laundry detergent were not provided. Guests should expect to bring virtually everything.
Despite paying a cleaning fee, checkout was uncomfortable. As we packed our car, the owner entered the house and reprimanded us for not sweeping the floor and for leaving a few drops of water behind. He pointed to a sign in French explaining that guests could recover part of the cleaning fee by completing additional cleaning themselves. We were not interested in cleaning beyond what would normally be expected.
There were genuine acts of kindness from the hosts, but between the undisclosed fees, lack of basic supplies, and confrontational checkout, this is not a property I would book again.
