About this property
Casa De Las Joyas...Sweet Casita Near Xcacel Beach: Newly remodeled late 2023!
Welcome to the freshly remodeled Casa De Las Joyas! All new flooring, new paint inside and out, remodeled kitchen and bathroom, and now with an outdoor shower in the back yard to get the sand off before coming inside! Casa De Las Joyas is still, a colorful little slice of heaven and a wonderful, comfortable place to stay. Now even prettier and more functional! The casa is located in a neighborhood of small homes originally built for locals within walking distance of Xcacel Beach. Xcacel Beach is home to turtle nesting grounds, and therefore protected by the Mexican government. Several publications have listed this beach as one of the top ones in Mexico, if not the world.
Decorated and painted in true Mexican style this 'jewel box' is perfect for those who are looking for a more traditional Mexican holiday experience. Much of the furniture was made by local artisans as we like to support our Riviera Maya economy. You might want to spend part of the day relaxing in the hammock in the backyard, listening to the gentle rush of falling water. Or you may want to take your morning coffee in the front yard, while admiring the park, listening to the native birds and enjoying the large fountain.

Hosted by Shelley
My name is Shelley, and I'm a native Californian. I hate to sound ungrateful, because I live very near the Pacific Ocean, but I LOVE the calm waters of the Caribbean. I never dreamed I would own a home in Mexico, partly because I can be kind of a Four Seasons type of gal, and don't want to have many responsibilities when I go on vacation. So I put a lot of amenities into the house so it feels like you're taking a high end vacation, but it just doesn't cost nearly as much!
I live near Pismo Beach, CA and I have a daughter who loves coming to Chemuyil almost as much as I do. This might become a retirement destination, but that is a few years away, so for now it is my beloved vacation home, and I hope you will love it too!

Why they chose this property
After falling in love with the Akumal area in the early 90's I never made it back until 2007. I still loved it, but couldn't believe how much development had happened over a decade. Chemuyil is only 4 miles away from Akumal, but it is a sweet reminder of how Akumal used to be 10 years ago. When an opportunity came to purchase my home I couldn't pass it up! The pueblo (pop. 1000)is terrific, our little neighborhood has been lovingly updated and I love being so close to beach club action , snorkelling, nightlife and boating All very close by.
What makes this property unique
Chemuyil is such a quiet oasis, and I have one of only 5 homes that overlook the little park in our neighborhood. Sunrise and tea in the front yard admiring the park, morning and early afternoon at the beach, or Xel Ha or a cenote or shopping or...okay, the list goes on and on!! Late afternoons lounging in the hammock in the back yard, maybe sipping on a cerveza or margarita (I admit it, Happy Hour starts a little earlier for me in Mexico!). Evenings out at a small restaurant in the pueblo, or something near/on the beaches nearby. Okay, the casa has a perfectly lovely, fully stocked kitchen, and I do occasionally cook there! When my daughter was little she loves the playgrounds in the pueblo, snorkelling in the calm waters of Akumal and Xcacel, or going to the eco parks.
One of my favorite things is that I can relax from day one down there, knowing I can do as little or as much as I want, because it feels like heaven on earth to me.
