Steve's place was perfect for my family of 4 for 6 weeks during the Asheville summer. There was plenty of room for all of us and the house had everything you would need for a comfortable, long-term stay. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful yet good access to the highway to get anywhere in Asheville quickly. Steve is also super responsive to any questions. If we come back to Asheville, we would love to stay here again!
This was our second stay. It truly is very comfortable and homey. Watching spring return to the Blue Ridge Mountains is just wonderful -- the trees, birds and the fresh air. The house is just perfect with the fireplace, walk-in shower, well-appointed kitchen, garage and comfortable bed. The Biltmore is always a great place to visit and go for hikes. Can't wait to return again next year.
Very comfortable, thoughtfully designed and organized home, well stocked with everything you could need. Steve is a great host and very responsive. Lovely quiet neighborhood but easy access to the city.
More than any other place we stayed, we felt like it was home and we could live there a long time. This home was so nice we asked our landlord if he would sell to us. We even got to see 3 bears just a few doors down. This was a great base for us to explore Asheville and Knoxville.
What a great place to stay. Exactly as advertised. Host lives next door and was available if needed. Close to Blue Ridge Parkway and easy access to all of Asheville. Recommend it 100%
This was our second stay at 'Dad's House,' Steve's property, and this visit was even better than the last time! We recommend this lovely little house enthusiastically. Being here is like living at home -- very quiet and well organized and situated on a delightful, verdant lot. Thanks, Steve, for making our landing into Asheville so 'cushy!'
We had a great stay all summer at this very nice home in a quiet neighborhood convenient to all of Asheville. Steve was always there when we needed something, but not looking over our shoulder from their home next door. We got to watch black bears wander through the backyard a half dozen times over three months, but never felt threatened. Would highly recommend the rental for anyone looking to enjoy all Asheville has to offer.
Everything about this experience was top-notch. The location was perfect, immaculate property with everything we needed to feel right at home. We would definitely recommend this for anyone looking to take in the beautiful blue ridge mountains and the unique Asheville vibe.
Great house in the Haw Creek neighborhood of Asheville,
The house is very comfortable and in a good location. It’s nice to park the car in the garage, especially when it’s raining. The host is very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. I’m sure we’ll be back again!
Great location. Easy access to area. Quiet location. Solid basic accommodations. Enjoyed the whole house fan to cool house in evening. Owner, Steve, was very responsive when questions arose.
Note, although we did not see any bears, there were bear paw prints on driveway on multiple mornings, very cool.
We have a very favorable impression of the property. Our stay met all of our expectations. Steve was responsive to all our inquiries. The location was great.
Steve was a great host. His house was perfect for 2 senior citizens because we could park in the garage and only 3 stairs into the house. There were some cold nights but the gas fireplace was warm and cozy. The walk-in shower was great! The grocery is not far and the Creekside Taphouse is just down the road. We hope to come back here again!
The house is very clean and well equipped. It is in a great area. Quiet and away from main roads, but close enough to the city and stores.
Would definitely stay here again.
Sometimes when you view pictures, and then arrive, you're disappointed. But not in this case. It turned out to be much better than we'd even hoped. The house, the location, and the owner Steve exceeded our expectations.
This lovely little house was perfect for our month-long visit to Asheville. We needed a home base from which to assess Asheville as a retirement destination, while at the same time continuing to telecommute for current jobs. The house has two wings of bedrooms, which made that telecommuting easy. One of us worked in the two front rooms. The other set up in the big Master Suite and dining room. Internet service was fast and never failed. At&T cell phone coverage was uninterrupted.
The house is clean, compact, quiet and pretty. Every appliance worked fine and I used them all every day. There’s a screened porch and two outside porches, one front / one back. The yard is big, level and beautifully landscaped.
We loved having a garage for our van.
The neighborhood is tranquil and wonderful to walk through in the evening – more like being in the country, though just a few minutes from downtown. A little after dark, the air was magically full of fireflies. Neighbors were unfailingly pleasant.
We were never more than 15 or 20 minutes from any part of Asheville – and we went to EVERY part of Asheville. Tunnel Road, even at 5pm, is easy to navigate. There’s an Ingles supermarket 5 minutes away, a Whole Foods just a little further.
Steve was an ideal host; he responded immediately to texts and calls, but gave us our privacy otherwise.
All in all, we can only say ‘Well Done!’ and highly recommend this property.
My family & I thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Location can’t be beat; 12-14 min drive to downtown Asheville. Home is very well- built, clean, & well-maintained. The host, Steve, was easy to communicate with had we any questions or wanted recommendations, etc. Kitchen was fully equipped with everything you need. All appliances are very nice and work wonderfully. Dishwasher occasionally squeaked when on a cycle but was very minor and dishes always came out very clean. All 3 beds were very comfortable. Linens /bath towels/ blankets in both rooms/bathrooms provided. Hardwood floors throughout. Large backyard. Neighborhood was very quiet and safe. My kids and I went on walks regularly through the neighborhood and everyone was so friendly. Small park within walking distance with tball fields and a creek that we visited frequently. Also 2 trails nearby that we enjoyed exploring. Thank you, Steve, for a wonderful stay!

About the host
Hosted by Steve Heiselman
I moved to Asheville in 1988, and my wife moved here in 1993, when we met. We both love spending time outdoors, hiking, mountain biking, and paddling the various rivers in our area. If you are unfamiliar with the Asheville area, and enjoy these types of activities, we can certainly steer you in the right direction!
Why they chose this property
When our next door neighbor subdivided a half-acre off of her property, my wife and I bought it. In 2010, we built this house with my father so that he could move here from Florida to be closer to us. Eventually, this house will be our retirement home (we still live right next door.) We wanted a home that was comfortable to spend time in, and functional as well. We're sure you'll be comfortable here, and we'll do everything we can to make your stay enjoyable!
