About this property

Secluded Beachwalk House - Great Layout for Families and Groups! Pet Friendly.

Chaika House was made for families and friends who want to enjoy a coastal getaway. Each wing has two bedrooms and a full bath, providing some separation if two families are sharing the space. The central part of the house features an open plan with a large kitchen (remodeled in 2021), dining area, and living room, so no one is excluded. A sliding door extends that space to a glassed-in porch. The Live Oak in the front provides a lovely and secluded view out the porch windows.
The house has no immediate neighbors and the Live Oak that gives it a secluded feel, but is only a 7-minute walk to the ocean. There is a open field next to the house that frequently is visited by deer. We keep it amply, but simply furnished to keep it comfortable, affordable, and a cottage feel.
We just listed on VRBO in 2021, so not many reviews here. We have over 100 reviews the other major platform with over 4.9 average and have qualified as SuperHosts for several years. You can rent with confidence!
Due to our need to keep full occupancy in the peak season, we had to choose the "firm" cancellation policy. However, our practice is to be flexible. If we are able to replace a canceled booking for the same amount, we will happily refund the full amount.
Our local host makes sure the house is sanitized, tidy, and ready for each guest. In order to keep prices down, we do not charge for an extensive clean, but assume each guest will leave the house in good shape upon departure. There is a departure checklist on the refrigerator. Chaika takes the approach of house sharing, not a hotel or resort.

This place was perfect for our family! House was perfect and the location was perfect! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is wanting a quiet peaceful place at Edisto with easy access to the beach. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to go back!

Great location. Quick walk to the beach, enjoyed daily visits from deer and even a momma cat and kittens. The house was just as described. Explored Charleston, chartered a boat from Mount Pleasant to hunt for sharks teeth and really enjoyed Botany Bay.

Great family beach house

Not a single crawling bug in the house all week! That's very rare in my experience. The home is clean and comfortable. Minutes to the beach. A short walk to Whaley's. (Good food). The house is surrounded by trees and other vegetation. Lots of deer and other wildlife to watch!

We really enjoyed the stay and the house is amazing. We saw deer in the yard every day we were there and the walk to the beach was short and pleasant. Loved chilling on the shaded porch just reading or napping. All around a great place to stay, loved it!!!!!

Great getaway

My family and my best friend’s family enjoyed out stay. The house was cozy plenty of beds and places to set. Downstairs was awesome being able to sit and hang out with us all. Not far at all from the beach. Definitely will stay again

Secluded but close to beach

This was a perfect place to stay with kids. It’s the last house on a dead end, so they could play outside without worrying about traffic, but it was also a short walk to the beach. The kitchen was lovely and well stocked and overall the house was very comfortable.

The perfect getaway

This house was the perfect getaway for us. Great location with plenary of room for everyone to be comfortable. This location is tucked back in a quite dead end street so you have privacy and quiet but it’s only a short walk to the beach. Will be looking to stay here again in the future.

Wonderful stay!

We had a wonderful stay at this rental! We were pleasantly surprised with the location and condition of the property. It feels very private on the end of a dead end street and the interior was perfect for our group of 8 and pups. We enjoyed watching the deer, playing games in the yard and at the large dining table which accomodated everyone. Outdoor shower was awesome! Kitchen very well stocked.Beds were comfortable and everything was clean and well kept. Overall, highly recomend for a laid back group vacation on the island. Thanks you for sharing your home!

Weekend wedding

We rented The Chaika for 2 weeks to come down for my daughter’s wedding. We needed a place big enough place since we were having family come down for the weekend and needed a place to stay. There was plenty of room for all of us and they had everything that we could’ve needed! There were even toys for my grandson to play with while we were there. We loved watching the deer every day come into the yard and loved that it was on a dead end street. It was very secluded and just a short walk to the beach. We all enjoyed our stay there!

We loved Chaika!

Description of the property is 100% accurate. We had no issues picking up the keys from Edisto Realty, nor returning. We had 9 individuals staying in the house and there was plenty of space. I like to cook and the kitchen was well stocked with everything I needed! The location is quiet and secluded as described. The deer visit daily, the open field next to the house, and are fascinating to watch. A five minute walk takes you directly to a beach access point. We love Edisto, and will definitely go back.

2022 Vacation

The house was a perfect size for our family. Love the updated kitchen and floors. We wish the enclosed porch had better air flow so we could have used the space more, but the tiny window air conditioner was not big enough to cool the space off. Would have been a great place to play cards or enjoy some reading and morning coffee. The downstairs area was our favorite place to hang out and listen to music. We love the deer that came around every morning and evening just to visit. Thank you for a great week at Edisto once again.

I am Jim, married to Shawn. We are on staff of a global mission agency, based in Atlanta. After spending 10 years in ministry in Kazakhstan, we joined the staff team of our agency. We love to travel and experience different cultures. We have four adult children and three grandchildren. Edisto has been part of our family's story since shortly after we were married in 1984. My folks spent 10 wonderful retirement years on Edisto from 1996-2006.

Why they chose this property

"Chaika", which means "Seagull" in Russian was so named since we got the house when we moved to Kazakhstan. It reminds us of our years there and is named after a hotel in the city where we lived. We got the house to hold our equity while living overseas, but decided to hang onto it upon our return in 2006, using the rental income to cover the costs. We love helping ordinary people have an affordable beach vacation and build wonderful Edisto memories

What makes this property unique

Not many houses are as secluded as ours and yet so close to the beach. The Live Oak tree in the front provides an incredible view as well as adding to the secluded feel. We also have kept it simple in order to keep it affordable. Over the years, fewer houses are accessible to common people as they get bigger and fancier. We love to communicate with our guests and hear about their stays.
