Just wonderful!
The property is utterly unlike anything else; eccentric but really lovely. Perfect for a family with slightly older children (the master bedroom is downstairs so perhaps not suitable for wee ones). It could be a little cleaner, but nothing major to worry about. The provision of kayaks, canoe and paddle boat guarantees a fun time on the water! Canoeing is my new favourite thing! There is also a platform which our kids (aged 8 & 11) had enormous fun rowing out to and jumping off of. It's a truly beautiful setting and a great clean lake, if a little weedy getting in and out. There are turtles, chipmunks, eagles and loons to be seen. We were told there is a small black bear who is sighted occasionally but sadly we didn't see him. The owners were friendly, communicative and efficient via telephone and email, though we didn't actually meet them during our stay.
The neighbour has a large but quite soppy dog who tends to keep to himself but will sometimes wander on the beach. Our children are a bit nervous of and not particularly keen on dogs, but absolutely loved him. His owner is a very lovely lady, who was very patient with our very noisy children! She is a font of knowledge for things to do and places to go and a fascinating person if you fancy a natter! Equally though, she will not invade your space if you're after some quiet time.
We were lucky with the timing of our holiday and had no problem with mosquitos or flies which, I understand, can occasionally be an issue.
The water was warm, the house was comfortable, the peace was deafening and the natives were friendly: we had one of our best ever holidays here. It doesn't get much better.
