It is a sanctuary offered to others as a respite for those in search of a beautiful setting, calm, privacy, peace, and contentment or conversely ideally located near innumerable activities and destinations.
Why they chose this property
The property is beautiful, the home sits on the bank of the river surrounded by prairie, meadow, and woods. Birds and wildlife abound, cozy and comfortable with many outdoor areas to gather. Everything is easily accessible and a very comprehensive list of hidden "gems" in the area to explore is provided. Always something to do it truly is a "Haven" no matter the season. Winter brings a wonderland, with snow-covered pine and spruce trees, views of the river, a cozy seat by the fireplace, and even more outdoor activities.
What makes this property unique
Beautifully furnished with numerous outdoor spaces and the river out the back door, located between the beach communities of South Haven and Saugatuck/Douglas, Holland, and the town of Fennville, the area is known as 'Harvest Country'. Home to Gingerman Raceway, Arvesta Water Park, wineries, art galleries, great dining, a ski area, bike trails, and multiple rivers and lakes for fishing and kayaking. Enjoy farmer's markets, town festivals, and the beach in the summer, gorgeous colors on display in the dense woods and rolling farmland in the fall, and public and private trails for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The river is refreshing, clean, and clear with a sandy bottom, the nearby Kal-Haven Trail offers 35 miles of adventure for biking, running, hiking, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing enjoyment. Kayaking on the Black River and the Kalamazoo is available for 1-, 2-, or 3-hour tours. Enjoy the fire pit and birdwatching, multiple outdoor spaces, and a river view with a sleeping sofa, hammock, and yard games (all provided). Snowshoes are available as well as the private trails and acreage to explore on the adjacent property upon request. Deer, turkeys, beavers, otters, and other wildlife roam the property. The designated trout stream also has steelhead and salmon running seasonally. A short drive from the house you will find numerous beaches, golf courses, Charter fishing, Arvesta waterpark, pickleball, disc golf, paddleboarding, and jet skis all close by. The area is abundant with wineries, breweries, farmers markets, gourmet cooking classes, The Art Barn, you-pick orchards, lakes, kayak rentals, fine dining, art galleries, and antique markets. The house has two furnaces, one for each floor, and is cool in summer, and cozy and warm in the winter. A short drive away is the Bittersweet and Timber Ridge ski areas; lessons, rentals, and daily lift tickets are available. Downtown South Haven has an open-air ice-skating rink with a fireplace.
