The hosts were very accommodating and friendly. Wonderful home, even better hosts! Would definitely recommend to all, and can’t wait to return in the future
The house is spacious, incredibly well stocked, clean, and has a great view. The hot tub was warmed up and a great way to relax. The hosts were communicative and very helpful. While we stayed in winter and didn’t get to enjoy the lake, this would be a great property any time of year. Highly recommend staying here!
The lake house was amazing! It had everything we needed and more than enough space for 11 of us (ages 10-78). The owners were super helpful and quick to respond throughout the entire process/stay. We would not hesitate to come back to this property for another stay!
Our family had an amazing stay. The hosts were incredibly responsive and helpful, even sharing great local restaurant recommendations. The home itself was spotless, warm, and welcoming—with a stunning view from the living room that we never got tired of. There were plenty of games and activities to keep the kids happily occupied, which gave the adults a chance to truly unwind. We spent lot of times outdoors with kayaks and paddlebaord. It was the kind of vacation where everyone felt relaxed and recharged.
We just completed a family vacation at this amazing lakehouse. Every inch of the interior is immaculate. Beautiful kitchen with everything you need. Spacious bedrooms for grandkids and adults. Large sun room with a hot tub that we used every night for family time. The lake itself is small and not crowded. We rented the awesome pontoon boat with 150hp engine that allowed us to do tubing every day. The grandkids loved it. The lakeside by the lakehouse was very shallow and the grandkids were able to play for hours on the lily pad in the water. We cannot say enough about how great this lakehouse is.

The home was a perfect location for our strategic retreat with everything we needed. We’d love to return in warmer weather to take advantage of the lake and water fun!
Beautiful home on the lake. All the amenities you could ask for. We took a family vacation with 12 of us and we had plenty of room. It was just what the family needed - a nice relaxing week away enjoying nature and each other.

Such a lovely and relaxing stay. Every detail of the house was wonderful. The beds were comfortable the bathrooms were so nicely appointed. The kitchen and large dining table was a great gathering spot. Layla was very attentive and answered all our questions and checked in with us frequently. Could not have asked for more.
Wonderful house with all the amenities.
Terrific boat. Wonderful people. Very accommodating. Small lake. The location was ideal for my family. It was a very memorable trip for us all.
Wonderful accomodations for a family weekend reunion. Beautiful view of lake and sunsets. We are contemplating returning for a summer week or long weekend. The owners were gracious and responsive. 5 stars!!!

Thanks for being such wonderful guests! Yes, beautiful lake-side sunsets all year round. but you'll get to jump in the lake in the summer! :)
This house was perfect for our girls weekend. The propriety is beautiful, and the house was very clean, spacious, and nicely decorated! We loved our stay and are considering returning next year. The owners were lovely to communicate with.
We rented this house for a weekend and stayed with our friends and our families with a lot of little kids. The views were beautiful, house had plenty of room and things to do, and everything was clean and cozy. The hot tub was also a hit! Overall, a great trip!
Layla and John were incredible hosts! It felt like we were staying with family. The home is beautiful and can host lots of people, especially if you book the coach house as well. Lots of fun games and activities for people of all ages! It is a great spot for folks in both Chicago and Milwaukee to get away. My family is from both places and it was a perfect meet up location. Highly recommend!
A wonderful weekend spent with family. Although it rained throughout the weekend, the activities provided within the house were enough to make this a memorable weekend. Our family had a wonderful time and Layla and John were fabulous hosts and very helpful. We so appreciate them sharing their beautiful home!

Thank you, Karen! You are welcome back anytime. :-)
House was very clean ( but it is little bit old property). They have everything inside ( pliantly of plates, glasses, different kitchen staff ) a lot of board games. Also lake view was very nice. Definitely recommended.
The owners provided the most absolutely perfect home for our party of 11! The home was huge, but cozy feeling. We had so much space for games, and watching movies. We all relaxed in the large hot tub after walks outside and some ice skating on the lake. The view of the lake was incredible!. Their attention to detail was amazing. We enjoyed all of the labeling and notes. The kitchen provided a place to play games and it seated all of us comfortably.I would rate this home with more than 5 stars!!!
We had so much fun with all the water toys/boats. All the games provided were a bonus (pickle ball, ping pong, air hockey, badminton, bags etc)
The kitchen has everything you need! A plus with great labeling and instructions.
The home is clean and the hosts are excellent communicators. We loved it- and our family has exymany VRBOs.

Gwen,
We were thrilled to host your family for Thanksgiving this year. Glad you got to enjoy the fireplace and the sunsets and warm up in the hot tub :-) You are welcome back anytime!
We stayed at John and Layla’s spectacular property over Thanksgiving weekend. It was a perfect space that fit our entire family—kids and grandkids—with big rooms that allowed us to be all together and lots of additional spaces so we could spread out, when desired.
The weather was freezing, but inside we were warm and toasty, enjoying the lake views while sitting in front of the fire or warming up in the hot tub. Downstairs, the gang played Wii, plugged in their switches to play on the big tv, played air hockey, and/or cheered on their favorite sports teams, while others played board games at the huge dining room table upstairs. With superb hosts and an immaculate, lovely home in an idealic setting, it was the perfect place to give thanks! We LOVED it and highly recommend staying at Layla and John’s beautiful beach home—even in late November.
Property is very nice with lots of amenities. We rented house and coach house which was perfect for our large family of 8 kids (17-32) and their parents (50s/60s).
Kitchen is fully stocked with what we needed and owners have labeled everything so you are not guessing about where things are located.
The owners did a great job of communicating and we found the property had everything we needed. Lake was perfect size. It’s a private lake so limited # of boats which made tubing and swimming in middle of lake fun (owners have a pontoon boat you can rent, we did and very glad as it made trip very enjoyable).
Drive way was big enough we set up pickle ball and had round robin play going in the evening.
Huge screened in porch with tables allowed our board game night to include the whole crew.
Antioch is a short drive and we went into town for pizza and Jewel runs. My wife and I walked to town (about 2 miles) all in neighborhood or on sidewalk. Very safe.
Gas stations on Wisconsin side have the spotted cow you will need for the week.
Only dilemma we have now have is figuring out what week we want to come back for next year.
Highly recommend this property.
John and Layla are terrific owners - great to communicate with. Wonderful property for many reason including parking for many cars.
The house is VERY clean, kitchen well stocked with almost every pan you would need. Including items you don’t often get such as spices cooking spray, plastic bags and wrap/ foil, and so much more, GREAT internet connection!
The beds and bedding were well above the norm. The king bed was so comfortable I didn’t miss my sleep number ! And, our adult children said the same about the three queen rooms. The bunk room was not conducive for big teenage boys-
The outside “stuff” was plentiful ping pong, foosball, air hockey, kayaks, rowboat, & Canoe-
And more.
We rented the pontoon boat, which made a world of difference because the lake is very small.
I should’ve paid more attention to the details listed about the property-
The house access to the lake is a bit of a challenge for anybody with even slight mobility challenges
Inside stairs going from the main floor to the basement and Lake access have approx 12 steps. From the basement there are 20 steps down to the lake that only have a railing on one side-
Finally, the quiet hour definition that included the screened in porch is a challenge when you have 7 teenagers between 14 and 17. Essentially we had to go in the house at 9 and with only one TV in basement it was difficult to find a place for a large group ( 12) to gather at night.

Eleanor, thanks for the review. YOU were fantastic guests! Just so everyone knows, the house is on a hill overlooking the lake, so stairs are definitely needed to get to the dock. We have installed a second, wider set of stairs, and each have very sturdy handrails. Because we live in a residential neighborhood, we want to be respectful when outside at night. A quiet gathering around the fire at night is just fine. Again, thanks for being amazing guests!
Wonderful property on beautiful Cross Lake - A++ property operated by great hosts
We had a delightful time staying in this house on Cross Lake, which straddles the Illinois/Wisconsin border near Antioch, IL. We did not rent the coach house because the main house easily accommodated our party of eight adults.
Layla and John were outstanding hosts. They went way (!!!) above and beyond the call of duty as hosts. I could tell it was important to them that our family had a great week at their property. For example, early in our stay on July 4th John drove 60+ miles from his home to buy a second rowboat from someone nearby so that we would have two rowboats. He and Layla were concerned that with someone else staying in the coach house, which shares the waterfront and boats, we might not have a row boat when we wanted to fish.
We selected this property because we wanted to fish and swim. Cross Lake has very clean water. The bottom is a combination of sand and silt. Some of our party wore water shoes, I did not and was fine. There is a lot vegetation in the lake in some places, but in my opinion not enough to interfere with swimming or other water activities. At the end of the pier the water is shallow (~2ft) so you cannot jump off the pier into the water. I strongly recommend renting the pontoon boat they offer as an extra as it is so much fun to go out in the middle of the lake, anchor and swim in deep water. At John’s suggestion we also used the boat for tubing and waterskiing. The pontoon boat has a powerful Mercury 150 HP on the boat and it pulls skiers much more quickly out of the water than many single hull speedboats. John and Layla provide all of the tubing and water skiing equipment.
The house and property are beautiful. Highlights included:
1. A very well-equipped kitchen with a great layout and a large adjacent eating area.
2. A master BR and living room with gorgeous large window lake views.
3. Four very nice additional BRs. It is great to stay in a house where are all the BRs are high quality which avoids awkwardness over who gets the nice room. There is also a nice den and the whole house has very good quality wireless.
4. Three recently remodeled full bathrooms.
5. A very large screened in porch which includes a table that has 10 chairs around it and a sitting area for 5-6 people. We ate all of our meals there and used this as the general hangout area when we weren't outside.
6. Outside the lower-level sliding door is a beautiful patio and grilling area overlooking the lake.

Pete and family--We were delighted to host your family at our lake retreat. Thank you for your kind words. We truly want every group to feel that it is their "home away from home" for a wonderful vacation experience. Looks like you took advantage of all the lake has to offer and made lots of great memories! We hope to host your family again.
My 40 something girlfriends and I do an annual get away together. We chose this location for it's quick drive from Chicago (60 minutes) it's beautiful lake views and spacious accommodations. The house had everything we could have asked for. We never had our wished to leave for any reason other then rowing around the lake. We took great advantage of the hot tub and fire pit as well and never missed a sunset. The pictures online don't do it justice! The sunsets transported us all to the tropics despite our fall coats! Highly recommend this for any group gathering where you want to relax and spend quality time with your people.

About the host
Hosted by Layla Groleau
Layla grew up in the midwest with summer stays on lakes and yearly family trips to a wonderful family compound on a New York Adirondack lake. John grew up in Maine and summered on the coast where he learned to sail with his dad. These experiences and family memories are something we wanted to share with our own children and grandchildren...and your family as well!
Why they chose this property
Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city to a quiet lakeside neighborhood with lots of room to roam, you'll truly feel as if you've "gotten away from it all".
What makes this property unique
Our home is nestled in 2.5 acres of sprawling lawn and towering oak trees with a huge lake frontage. Surrounded by nature, one cannot help but relax and rejuvenate amongst family and friends.
