About this property

Eco-friendly vintage mountain cabin/electric car charger

Original ‘50’s style cabin in a quiet corner of town. Mindfully outfitted for four close friends or small family to have sustainable and memorable fun. Cross between smart design of a boat and a Tardis - bigger on the inside than the outside - enter the expansive family-kitchen area room find a game cabinet that is fully stocked with all the classics, lots of great books - there is also a flat screen TV, smokin’ fast internet and a wifi-internet printer and Bluetooth speaker. In the open ended galley kitchen you will find a fully stocked kitchen - matched charming camp style plates, urban flatware, Duxtop saucepan set, Mesan carbon frying pans, full set of beverage glasses. Organized drawers with basic tools to cook any meal. Baking sheets and a variety of serving platter sizes. Arrive after the stores close and find organic fair trade coffee ready for grinding in the freezer - no little plastic synthetic creamers - frozen milk, oat milk and almond milk ready to put in a pitcher for your morning coffee percolated in an old fashioned singing pot. Also complementary bread and jam so you don’t need to rush out in the morning. Compost bin outside the back door and compost bucket under the sink. The large side deck is ready for entertaining and stargazing. Full-sized natural gas grill with handmade grill tools. Tea kettle and microwave. Short hallway leads to the precious bathroom with vintage metal shower. Organic shampoo, conditioner, and two lightly scented body washes provided. Also provided for sample are tooth-bites (rather than paste). TP is carbon-neutral and tree free. Organic hemp bath towels. Twin bedroom with one of a kind bedspreads made by Bangelhedshi women from saris in fair trade work shop. Sheets organic soft warm linen or soft and silky eucalyptus fiber. Master queen has Amish quilt and small desk. Both bedrooms have large closets with plenty of hanging space and hangers, luggage rack, locally purchased antique mirrors, ceiling fans, and reading lights magnetically fixed to the wall which double as flashlights. Allergy sufferers note all linens are washed with fragrance free hypoallergic soap. No fabric softner is needed on these quality products. There are window AC units. Just up the hill is the Pacific Crest trailhead, WW village is an easy 10 minute stroll downhill. It’s a sobering but doable 20 minute walk back up to the cabin (Uber and Lyft are intermittent) Cabin is on a large 9000 square foot lot with vacant lot adjacent make the property feel more remote than it is. Enjoy the night breeze through the pines and sounds of crickets and watch the birds attracted by multiple feeders. We hope our guest will leave refreshed, renewed and inspired.

About the host

Hosted by Denis & Julie Bolton

Host profile image
The adventures of Denis and Julie began when they met on the first day of medical school in 1995. During medical training they traveled the country in a 97 celiac living in a different city most every month for 2 years. During and between they prioritized extended travels abroad from medical exchange and courtship in Spain and England to honeymoon in Honduras and several adventures in South American including Galapagos and Easter Island. Last hurrah before parenthood was a pilgrimage to the first country to track Gross National Happiness, Bhutan. Harrison joined on in 2009, getting his first passport at 3 months old. At 5 Harrison became probably the only child to scooter from Long Beach to San Diego in a 3 day trek - Denis biking with a travel trailer, and Julie on skates as the caboose. School years and COVID has caused a pivot toward local camping and skiing, when Wrightwood property Mandala 1 joined the team.

While we enjoy cosmopolitan fine dining as much as the next guy, most of their meals are home cooked, of 28 meals per week, the Bolton’s prepare from scratch or leftovers 24 of the meals, many week nights with drop in friends and on weekend breakfasts. After 20 years of this they’ve learned many of cooking and food prep tricks to share.

When not cooking and traveling and having fun, Denis works as partner in a hospital based Radiology group, while Julie practices Family Medicine in a private group in Newport Beach. Harrison currently lives with relatives abroad and attends the Giggleswick Academy. Their 18 year old cat Nigel, enjoys being petted and laying in the sun
