Hilltop Hideaway: Lakefront Cottage in the Smoky Mountains

You're about to enjoy one of the best kept secrets of the South - the Lake in the Sky. A beautiful lake is hidden away on the border of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park right off the Foothills Parkway, on top of a Tennessee Mountain. This private cottage gets you on the water and offers your own private dock on a quiet lake (free of noisy motorized watercraft), tucked into a cozy cove. For the adventurer, you are walking distance to a trailhead to backcountry hiking on world class hiking trails of the GSMNP. After kayaking and fishing in the water or exploring the wilderness, you can grill out in your private backyard, reflect with wine on the dock, or tell stories by the fire pit.

The house can only accommodate up to two adults and two kids, with a queen bed, and two stackable twin beds, and a queen-size sleeper sofa. Full kitchen, 1.5 bathrooms, heat/AC, elevated screened porch for fantastic lake views over breakfast, and a beautiful bifold glass door downstairs that opens directly to the private lake. To help you enjoy the gas-motor free lake, there is a Jon boat with electric trolling motor, kayaks (one two seater with one additional kid seat that can be added, and two kid kayaks for a total of 3 kayaks). There are games, books, and 3 Smart TVs for those times you choose to stay inside in front of the fire.

The cottage sits on the Lake in the Sky and offers all of the modern conveniences needed to get away but stay connected.

We ask that guests respect the community-mandated quiet time after 10 PM to ensure that all can enjoy the peaceful setting.

A note about the shower. The shower is located under the stairs. The dimensions are as follows: 7ft at the very top where the shower head is and slopes down to 5 ft in the middle where you would stand and the lowest point is 41 inches where the faucet is on the opposite side of the shower head. So for tall people it may not be ideal.

We're a pair of sisters/husbands raising our families in Knoxville. We all instantly fell in love with this cozy little cottage and thought it'd be a wonderful place to adventure and relax with our kids. Once we got in there, we thought it's only fair to share such a uniquely magical hideaway with you. And here you are! We're so excited for you to see what all it has to offer, inside and out.

Why they chose this property

This place checks every box. From the tiny community, the private water access, 25 minutes to restaurants and shopping in Maryville, and the fact that this is one of the few places on Earth where you can simultaneously enjoy scenic altitudes and relaxing lake life, how could we say no? We're a diverse group with interests in everything from art to outdoor adventures, and this place delivers endless inspiration and access to nature. Perfect.

While a lot of places like ours can offer proximity to the water, our place gives you actual private access and your own dock, as well as a fishing boat (with trolling motor), a pair of solo kayaks for kids and a bigger kayak that seats two adults and a child. The house has 3 large flatscreen tv's for all your streaming, an elevated screen porch (perfect for breakfast, sunset and everything in-between), a fire pit and outside seating, a full kitchen with dishwasher, brand new AC/Heat, and an array of games for the young (or young at heart).

The most unique benefit of this cabin, simply put, is its dynamic scope of possibilities. Whether you're trying to leave the world behind or grab for more of it, you will find it here in this truly unique escape.
