It was "okay"
My husband, his dad and brother stayed at the property for a weekend. He says the place "wasnt very comfortable" in the sense that other than the front porch, there werent to many places inside the house where they could all be together and hang out. The neighborhood - which the owner has zero control over - was definitely not one in which my husband would have felt comfortable bringing me or my kids to....i guess we can leave it at that. We were very appreciative of the price we paid for the place given the outrageous pricing elsewhere, but you will pay for that when it comes to peace of mind in your surroundings.....

Charming stay at Chicago
The house was good for our needs, we enjoyed it, and the communication with the host (Henry) was excellent, plus he was always available and expedite in helping us. We were able to enjoy our time in Chicago at this property! The microwave had a dirty tray, so we washed it before use it. Also the kitchen countertop needed a cleaning before using. And there was many of those places with hidden dust around the house (behind the table, for example) - I understand Chicago's dirt is hard, but it was not nice to find it. However, it was overall a great stay, a courteous and helpful owner, and a rich house to visit with so many beautiful pieces of furniture! The neighbors were quiet most of the time (except for one night - very loud music), and you can park and feel safe.

Woodlawn Stay
Pros: Communication with Host was great and he was very helpful and nice. Property was equipped with everything needed and check in was easy. Cons: Area around was a little sketchy but it looks like it may be in the process of being renovated. Property is older and floors and a little noisy.

Amazing historical house
The manager was beyond helpful and accommodating to us, so thankfulfor all he did. The house has such an amazing old and historic vibe and decor. There are beautiful music posters, art, and various items that embodies Chicago's history throughout the house. You can visually see the city's many contributions to music and art throughout time. The love for this city and preserving its history is packed into this hidden gem.

Filthy
The property was absolutely filthy. Crusty spots on floor, dustbunnies, used straw on piano, toilets not cleaned, beard trimmings on sink, dirty kitchen utensils/microwave, old food in fridge, dirty shower curtain, possible poop splatters on bathroom cabinet, beard trimmings on sink, stained sheets with hairs, etc...38 pictures taken and supplied to VRBO. We had to find a hotel last minute. Seller refunded in full the same night. He admitted to thinking we we coming the next day instead of our scheduled day. May have been lack of preparedness or just the state of the home in general. We weren't sure, but weren't willing to stick around to find out.

Just what we needed
We were getting our daughter set up in her apartment for grad school. This was just what we needed. It was a lovely place. I only wish we could have heard Henry sing.

About the host

Host profile image
Longtime Chicago resident, interested in the arts and cultural landscape of Chicago and especially of Woodlawn.

Why they chose this property

Woodlawn before the 1950s was a cultural meca of the city of Chicago. It retains beautiful views, access to parks, great transportation and access to the lake front, downtown, the University of Chicago and the new Obama Presidential Center. Additionally there is a resurgence in comfortable urban living with access to nearby shops, stores and restaurants that are an important part of Woodlawn's incredible history.

Scott House is an elegant residence in the heart of this forgotten gem of Chicago neighborhoods.

What makes this property unique

Easy access to public transportation and major highways getting to all portions of the city of Chicago.
