About this property

Private & Peaceful, Family Friendly, Great Views, Clean and Cared for Chalet!

THE CHALET
Welcome to the BlackBeary Chalet! A place of blackberries, and black bears ! A wonderful place of peace and relaxation tucked away high up on nearly 30 acres of mountain paradise, surrounded by nature, birds, and wildlife. A place for awesome mountain vistas. A place to get away from it all! (Note : The BlackBeary Chalet has a very steep but doable concrete driveway. )

Breathe deeply of the pure mountain air, then open the door by the cute, locally handcrafted bear carving and step inside the great room with its soaring cathedral ceilings, a real wood burning fireplace, plenty of comfy seating. and a 85 inch smart TV! (just bring your own Firestick or streaming log-in.) It's the perfect place to relax and re-connect!
Discover a fully stocked kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. It is FULLY equipped, (outfitted by a stay at home mom!) and stocked with all the necessities for making anything from a quick snack, to a full gourmet meal, and includes both a Keurig coffee maker, and a 12 cup coffee maker, along with a toaster, crock pot, electric skillet, waffle maker, blender and more.

A master bedroom, which includes a walk in, tiled shower and a jetted tub. You will also find a large walk-in closet in this room. On the main level
is a second, queen bedroom , a full hallway bathroom, and a hallway closet with some cleaning supplies, should you desire to use them. Staying for a Flexcation? There is a table and chair, with a high speed internet router that you can directly connect your computer to. No worries about wifi! (Although the wifi is great to!)

Downstairs, you will find pine wood walls, a bedroom with 2 queen bunk beds with a private, full bathroom. You will find another cozy bedroom with handcrafted log furniture, a common area bathroom, along with the large game room, equipped with a slate top pool table, with a ping pong top for another game option, Shuffle board, a 60 game barrel arcade, Big Buck Hunter Pro arcade, board games and children's books in the closet.

THE OUTSIDE
Outside, on the lower deck, you will find the huge 6 person hot tub with waterfall, fountain, and lighting features. On the upper deck you will find the bar - height picnic table and its umbrella, with awesome Cove mountain views that will make you want to linger for a long time!
Behind the Chalet, you will have a fire ring and seating tucked up against the mountain, and shaded by trees where you can relax by the fire, and perhaps enjoy some S'mores! Or just sit and soak in the mountain ambience as you re-connect.
THE TRAIL
Ready for an adventure? Take an adventurous hike on our private mountain trail! Our trail is about 1.75 miles long, but extremely rugged and steep, and largely unimproved. It is a true Tennessee mountain wilderness experience! (We recommend only experienced hikers tackle it.) THE TRAIL IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN.

THE AREA
The BlackBeary Chalet is nestled all by itself on 30 acres, surrounded by mountains and nature. But it is still only a short drive to all the attractions nearby. It is less than 15 minutes drive to the Metcalf Bottoms entrance to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and the Foothills Parkway, and approximately 30 minutes to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, depending on destination and traffic.

THE ADVANTAGES
The BlackBeary Chalet is privately owned and operated. In the unlikely event that issues should arise, you will be communicating directly with the owner, who has the authority to make things happen! We commit to doing everything in our power to resolve issues as soon as possible for the Smokies! Ensuring an enjoyable stay for our guests is our highest priority!

ONE MORE THING.... DEFINITELY READ THIS!
The serenity of this location, and its awesome mountain views, comes at the price of a long and very steep, but manageable, concreted driveway. (Consider it part of the adventure!) We Do Not allow Loaded maxivans or mini buses up this driveway- they often fail to make it up the drive, if arriving in a maxi van there is a parking spot at the bottom to lighten your load by unloading luggage and making a second trip down. Please follow these precautions for your safety! ( most other vehicles are fine)
Renters will be required to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle for any stays from October through April. We also highly recommend trip insurance during these months, as the drive is impassable in snow or ice. If you have any question, feel free to contact your host.
Thank you!

Amazing time and views

Everything about our stay was amazing, the driveway was a little scary but the cabin and views made it worth it!! There were so many games and things to there we didn’t feel like we needed to leave. Our only recommendation would be to have a few more tv’s…

A dream family vacation!

Our group traveled from TX to spend quality family time in the mountains. The house was incredible - secluded and picturesque! The communication with the owners was spot on - as we even dealt with a snowstorm in the area the day we arrived. They were so accommodating! This house is truly a labor of love and we absolutely loved our time here. It was hard to leave! Thank you Weaver family for many amazing memories.

Absolutely Beautiful

I want to personally thank the owners of this property. They really came through for us when we ran into an issue with another property nearby. This home is absolutely beautiful! You can tell from the moment you arrive they love this place too and have put time into making it a “home away from home” for their guests. The home was spotless and the kitchen well stocked! The views are incredible! The only advice I have is to be prepared for the driveway incline! It is sharp but the reward is totally worth it. Thanks again to the owners for your wonderful hospitality!

Great mountain vacation spot

The house was very clean and perfect for two families with pre-teen and teenage kids. Location is great with beautiful views from the house and easy scenic drives to Cades Cove, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. The driveway is steep but no problem for two 2-wheel drive suburbans fully loaded with luggage and 5 to 6 people each. Just keep it in first gear and it should climb with no problem.

Family vacation

This chalet was absolutely perfect! It was about 30 minutes from Pigeon forge and 40 from Gatlinburg. We saw a bear a couple of times during our stay. There is hiking near by. The property was beautiful, clean, and we enjoyed it there very much. It was hard to leave! The view of the mountains were beautiful! The drive way is extremely steep so make sure you have a vehicle that can make it up. If you have 4 wheel drive you’ll be fine. I’d recommend this place to anyone!

Beautiful, Secluded Cabin

We enjoyed the cabin! It's in a beautiful, secluded area that's very peaceful. It's close enough to visit the surrounding areas if you want, but it is also perfect for just relaxing at the cabin! Had a few questions but quickly responded to by owners. Overall, beautiful cabin and area!

A truly Wonderful Cabin, actually A Wonderful Home

The pictures are great, but the home is far superior to the pictures. The home was extremely clean and greatly furnished with all the necessary kitchen supplies. Views from the home are unbelievable, just as the description states you have an early morning sunrise on one side of the home and on the other side a beautiful sunset. We had no problem with the driveway. Michael and his wife was so kind to also furnish a high chair and a sac-n play for our 9 month old grandson. I would highly recommend this home to anyone desiring a wonderful stay in the Smokies.

Peaceful Oasis

I had planned a family vacation for 3 generations. The Blackbeary Chalet was perfect. Nicely decorated rooms, great bed linens and towels, a fully stocked kitchen, and wood ready in the fire pit made us feel right at home. It is secluded but close to attractions. The driveway was not as bad as reviews made it seem. Our family had an amazing time here and we would stay again.

Great peaceful getaway

We had a great experience the cabin is tucked away and certainly private. The home is beautiful and peaceful. Pool is not far away and very nice. Concession stand food good also. Nice scenic drive and not to far from all entertainment. The driveway isn’t as bad as you think the first time going up it.

Outstanding Stay

We absolutely loved our stay at the cabin. It was clean, spacious, safe, and beautiful. The driveway is as advertised and was difficult for us but we were in 15 passenger church vans. Normal vehicles will be fine. But it was definitely worth it once you got to the top. Loved the house and loved the views. If you can handle the climb to the top of the trail be sure and take it.

Awesome Views From Porch

We very much enjoyed our stay. The cabin was very roomy and the 4 bathrooms were nice. Watching the sun come up over the mountains from the front porch was breathtaking. The cabin is stocked with all the essentials we needed and communication with the owners was great. We would definitely do this again.

we had a great time of being alone and undisturbed. cabin was exceptioally clean. we ate all our meals there. the amenities in the kitchen were more than we have ever had in a vrbo rental. great wifi and a huge tv in the living area. theater room recliners were especially appreciated. enjoyed the huge hot tub downstairs. huge deck that overlooks the mountains. some have noted the steep drive. our toyota highlander made it up and down just fine. great communication with the host. promptly replied to our questions. would definitely recommend this property.

Beautiful place.

This place was perfect for our family of 6. Everyone had a place comfortable. Plenty of space to spread our. The view is absolutely amazing. The fire pit was a hit for all of us. I will say that the ride up to the cabin is not for the faint of heart. I about passed out going up. But I'm from flat land area. [Louisiana] its concrete all the way up. I got use to it after the 3rd day. But all in all we would definitely stay at the beautiful place again. Great location.

Black Bear Chalet

If you’re a big group looking for a cabin with amazing views this is the right one to book. The sunset and sunrise views from the cabin were spectacular . The cabin was clean and you can tell it’s newly renovated. Loved the gaming room and the huge patio. The kitchen and living room were spacious as well. My family enjoyed their stay here. It was very peaceful and the cabin was pretty isolated.

Host profile image
Hello from your Hosts, Michael & Arlene Weaver! We have been blessed to enjoy over 24 years of married life together. We, along with our 5 children, own and operate The BlackBeary Chalet. We are a farming family from northern Ohio that loves nature, hiking, and the Great Smoky Mountains! We first visited the area in 2018, and found Wears Valley because of a detour. As they say, the rest is history! ‍ In 2021, We found this neglected place, high up on the mountain, in desperate need of some love & care. So began a summer of much family time spent cleaning, remodeling, updating, and outfitting the BlackBeary Chalet! Its transfomation has been nothing short of amazing!‍ It is so named because of the abundance of both black bears, and blackberries nearby. The yard was overgrown with blackberries when we first bought it, and black bears are frequent visitors! We come from a Swiss/German background where hospitality is highly valued, so sharing our Chalet with others was a natural fit for us. We enjoy working hard to provide a great experience for our guests! Our desire is that our guest will experience the peace and tranquility that can be found in soaking in nature, and from allowing God to speak into their lives. We pray for our guests while they are staying at the Blackbeary Chalet! We hope to see you soon!
