About this property
The Dog House - Romantic, Hot Tub, Creekside, Firepit: Perfect couples getaway!
The quintessential romantic mountain getaway for two!
The Dog House is privately situated on 300 feet of beautiful rushing creek and wooded trails, yet is conveniently located only 4 miles from downtown Boone and ASU, 6 miles from Tweetsie Railroad, 9 miles from Blowing Rock, and only 4 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The poplar logs used to construct the Dog House were cut, dried, milled and then assembled by only two men using a handmade boom and pulley system attached to a huge tree. Later, the cabin was renovated by a professional designer.
The inviting living area is centered around a stunning wood-burning fireplace featuring a one-of-a-kind burl maple mantel—the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the outdoors. Above the fireplace, a new 65-inch Smart TV offers excellent viewing from the living room, dining area, and kitchen, making it easy for everyone to enjoy movie nights together.
High-speed Wi-Fi, a selection of board games, and a collection of books provide entertainment for every guest, whether you're looking to unplug or stay connected.
Upstairs, you'll find a comfortable king bedroom with a full bath featuring a tiled walk-in shower. A second Smart TV provides a cozy retreat for winding down at the end of the day.
Throughout the cabin, you'll discover an eclectic blend of modern comfort and timeless character. Antiques, cozy blankets, unique artwork, and historic photographs create a warm, authentic mountain atmosphere and unlike any other cabin you'll visit.
The deck is as large as the cabin itself and features a gas grill and Hot Springs spa with moto massage. Stairs lead from the deck onto trails along the creek and through the woods. A stone firepit with Adirondack chairs awaits you by the creek, where you can relax and enjoy the expanded views of the waterfalls and creek.
The Dog House gained its iconic name from “Rubberdog,” the cabin's canine occupant who lived in the home at the end of the 20th century. Rubberdog gained his name after going under both left tires of an SUV in 1997 and sustaining no injuries aside from a small laceration. Years later, Rubberdog again preformed an amazing feat. Just before Christmas 2004, he went missing. After several days and countless attempts to locate him, the heartbroken owner suspected the worst. On Christmas Eve however, the owner received a call from his neighbor who lived across the creek. After returning home from a family visit, she discovered Rubberdog in her upstairs bedroom. Apparently, he snuck in while the neighbor packed for her trip and had survived alone in a single bedroom for nine days with no food or water. Other than losing a little weight, he was still in great health. It seemed fitting to name an outstanding cabin in honor of one amazing dog.
In 2026, some new pups (and their people!) entered The Dog House's story. Oscar, Saddle, & Norman invite their fellow dogs and their humans to enjoy a stay at their favorite place in the mountains!
When your friends ask where you are headed for your next vacation, let them know you're in “The Dog House".

Everything was top notch! We spent our mornings in the hot tub drinking coffee and our evenings next to a fire near the creek. I couldn’t believe how close we were to everything but the cabin felt very remote! Wonderful stay! Couldn’t ask for anything more!

Thank you for the wonderful review! So glad you enjoyed mornings in the hot tub with coffee and evenings by the fire by the creek. We’d love to host you again so please come back anytime. - BRMR
It's beautiful and fairly secluded, with all amenities exactly as described. It's nestled in between several very scenic hiking areas while still close to basic needs. Definitely have at least AWD as they mention so you don't spin up the driveway. Turning around to park is very tight.
I love that this property allows dogs! The hot tub is great and having a wood burning fireplace is amazing and makes it feel more like a real cabin. The only suggestion I have is, it would be nice to have a lamp downstairs near the couch - maybe floor lamp. It was nice to sit on the couch by the fireplace and read, but when it started to get dark, we couldn't see to read so had to go upstairs.
The Dog House was an awesome destination to celebrate my wife’s birthday! Perhaps our favorite part was sitting creek side listening to the sound of the rushing water. It is so therapeutic! Look forward to staying again.

We enjoyed our stay at The Dog House! The location was convenient to both Boone and Blowing Rock, and the management company was responsive to our questions before and during the stay. Great little mountain cabin.

The design and decor of this home is beautiful, and a very peaceful place to bring the dogs for a visit to the mountains.
The creekside firepit in particular is a highlight and we look forward to visiting again when there isn't a fireban.
We wished we could have stayed longer, overall it was well worth it.

The Dog House is a cozy, wonderful hideaway. It is the perfect size for the two of us and our two dogs. The outside space including the deck, path to the creek and creekside fire pit sitting area was well enjoyed. The house itself is comfortable and well appointed with most everything we needed. There was some difficulty communicating with the rental company for anything outside of the routine notes regarding pre arrival and checkout details. We could not locate the washer/dryer in the house (the listing indicated that they were available for guest use) and the day after our arrival I sent a note asking about the location. There was a delay of over 24 hours and still no answer to the question regarding laundry facilities. Finally, after re-asking about the laundry twice, we did receive a response that the washer and dryer had been removed from the home. While this doesn’t seem like a huge issue, we had planned to wash and dry our own towels and clothes from a day tubing on the river. We did hang the towels and clothes out on the deck but they never completely dried and we had to bring home w damp towels and clothes to properly wash and dry them. This was more an aggravating annoyance as if we had received timely communication we could have possibly located a laundromat.

Thank you for staying at The Dog House and for the thoughtful review. We're glad the two of you and your dogs enjoyed the deck, creek path, fire pit, and that the cabin felt comfortable and well-appointed. We apologize for the delayed responses and the inconvenience caused by the washer/dryer not being present. We’ve updated the listing, added guidance in the guest book about local laundry options, and reminded our team to respond more promptly. Thank you for the feedback, and we hope you’ll stay with us again. - Blue Ridge Mountain Rentals
This was a perfect property for a short weekend getaway for my wife and I, along with our 10 year old lab. The house is very comfortable, has an awesome outdoor fire pit next to a creek on the property. The location is convenient to a short trip into town(10-15 mins). We would definitely consider coming back for another weekend. 5 stars

The home was very private and had a beautiful stream behind it. The outside of the home needs to be cleaned and my only complaint was the mattress was very firm and thats not what we're use to. Hot tub was very nice.

Snow Information!
Nice, quiet, cozy location for two people. AWD/4WD a MUST in snowy or icy conditions. Unpaved, hilly access road and steep driveway! Would have been nice if rental company cleared upper level entry walk to make it easier to enter/exit house from the access road. Driveway is gravel, but was not cleared, so very slick with packed snow and iced over. Nevertheless, we enjoyed and may come back in Spring or Fall when everything is more easily accessable.

Our stay was nice but there are a few items that should be fixed/ improved for this price point. The hot tub worked well but was missing head rests with only screws remaining. The filter compartment door is missing. There was limited lighting so was hard to see inside at night. There were 1000 switches for lights and we couldn’t figure out what controlled what. We really liked the fire pit area and the kitchen and bathroom were great. Bed was very comfortable. Plenty of seating in dining and living rooms and well stocked kitchen tool. Be aware driveway is tight at street with sharp drop. Only mention for larger vehicles like a pick up but a car would be fine. Met the neighbor when we went for a walk who was very nice and welcoming.
