Historic 1830s Lodge/Cabin Overlooking Missouri River
Raven's View Retreat is like nothing you've ever seen before! Think Daniel Boone & Pre Civil War Era lodging! The main lodge sits on 5 acres on a ridge overlooking the Missouri River just East of Downtown Washington, MO! Historic, stunning, hauntingly beautiful, and magical...this property will take you back to a simpler time with all the right ingredients to help you unwind and relax.
***Please keep in mind that this is an authentic 1830s log cabin. While there are lots of updates to it as a whole, it still has a very primitive history/background, will make noises from time to time, isn't perfectly level, and has a few quirks as old cabins tend to have.

Before our trip started I was having trouble getting in touch with the host to get check-in information. After multiple attempts she finally got back to me and gave me wrong info on location of keys. We called and were finally able to get in. The description of the house said pantry items but what was actually available was a fridge full of used old food and the same goes for all the cabinets. There were mouse droppings everywhere. Dead roaches and mouse droppings next to the towels in the linen closet. The extra toilet paper was all chewed by mice. The shower was clogged. I contacted the host and she said she could come fix it but i didn't want anyone there during our stay. The host is trying to sell the property and had two showings DURING our stay. This property manager was completely unprofessional and this is by far the worse vrbo experience I've ever had. The cabin itself was lovely and so was the area. I really wanted to love it but it was disgusting!
If you have a large group and love a rustic property, this is your place! Everyone loved the the fact that the cabin was from the 1800,s and because it is secluded noise was not an issue with our crazy family. We had women from 21 to 83 (our 80s ladies are very active)?and there was space for everyone. The main floor has 2 king size beds, to accommodate anyone who doesn’t do stairs well. The stairs to the upper level are steep, so we put the 20 and 30s there. The lower level has a bed and plenty of awesome sofas. The carriage house also has a bed and some great sofas. The kitchen has a huge table where we set out our buffet meals and there’s another huge table in the dining room where we ate, played games and had a dance party. It was over 100 degrees during our stay, so the pool was a great addition. Downtown Washington and wineries are very close. Our only regret was that we couldn’t use the porch more, due to the heat, because the view is gorgeous. Everyone had an amazing time and would love to come back! Tarah is a very responsive host, responds immediately if you need anything or have a question. Would highly recommend!
A little quirky, but a lovely home and it was nice to have space both inside and out for a large group of friends to stay. The bathrooms are very nice and up to date. A few bugs here and there (hello, cabin in Missouri) but it didn't turn us off of the place, and the grounds and views are truly lovely. We really appreciated the opportunity to stay!
We stayed here during Christmas and even though it was during the artic blast we had so much fun. Rooms were neat and clean, large big beds. Bathrooms were spacious and clean, updated for as old as the home was. There was a smaller mother in law place where me and my husband stayed on the property, nice to get away from all the younger ones in the main house. The location was great as we do Karaoke and we can be loud at times it was secluded, and the kids loved to be out in the yard playing even if it wasn't for very long they like to explore. We had run out of wood for the fireplace and let the owner know and she had mor delivered for us. The only major issue for us was not enough room in the kitchen, we were trying to cook Christmas dinner and there just wasn't enough space for more than 2 people to be in there cooking.
All in all we would go back again maybe in the spring or summers when warmer. The owner was great, text me and let me know about certain thing in the home that needed special attention!
A hidden Gem, was a amazing stay. A great place to stay, we all had a wonderful stay, love the property, plenty of beds and bathrooms. Lots of room just 100% great place to stay, vacation.
Rustic and modern at tge same time! A must stay cabin. Also your only a little less than 5 mins from the town of Washington, but when your at the cabin its pure beautiful wilderness!!!!
Wonderful time with friends from TX, CT, LA, NM & GA attending Australian Shepherd National Specialty at Purina Farms. Perfect property for a big group.

About the host
Hosted by Tarah Long
Hi, I'm Tarah! I'm a lifelong Missourian who now lives in a lovingly restored 1800s log cabin overlooking the Missouri River. I've always had a deep love for old homes, quiet places, and meaningful connections, which is why I enjoy sharing my property with guests from all over. Whether I'm hiking with my kids, working on a new cabin project, or just sipping coffee on the porch, I find joy in the simple beauty of nature and history. Hosting gives me the chance to create peaceful, memorable stays where others can unplug, and feel at home, if only for a little while.
Why they chose this property
Nestled high above the winding Missouri River, Raven's View Retreat is a quiet patch of magic wrapped in history and timber. The 1800s log cabin rests amongst old trees that whisper when the wind stirs and the air smells faintly of cedar, woodsmoke, and wildflowers. Mornings are golden and hushed, light filters through the trees in strips, and the only sounds are birds, your boots on gravel, and maybe the neighboring donkey & rooster signaling the time of day. Evenings feel sacred here, whether you're sipping something warm on the porch or watching a fire crackle under the stars, there's a sense of time pausing just for you!
What makes this property unique
What I enjoy most about this neighborhood is how the world slows down here. It's the kind of place where neighbors wave from the road, where deer, turkey, and foxes stroll by like they own the place, and the stars come out in full force. There's peace in the dirt roads, stories in the hills, and a quiet comfort in knowing you're part of something older than you, but still entirely your own for moments in time.
