This 3 bedroom 3 bathroom house is located on an exceptionally gorgeous property in paradise, privately gated, very safe, quiet & secure.

Nestled right in the heart of PLaya Avellanas, the house has a fully equipped kitchen, with a giant teak dining table, and 5 extra large extra comfortable hammocks to choose from.

Professionally decorated inside and out with lovely local antiques and art work. There is a total of 3 California King sized beds, with 3 Flatscreen Televisions with Apple TV and Netflix, ice cold AC, ceiling fans, & strong WiFi throughout.

This is the perfect place for peace and quiet, relaxation and serenity. Your reservation includes paid exclusive beach access through neighboring Cabinas Las Olas, and their world famous mangrove boardwalk.

This is an incredible place to observe wildlife, enjoy beach walks and watch superb sunsets, as well as amazing swimming, boogie boarding, surfing, fishing, golfing and so much more.

It is only a short walk to the beach out front, as well as lots of local restaurants, bars, shops, and groceries. Rental cars are not necessary. Taxis, tours, as well as transfers from Liberia airport (LIR), can all be easily arranged for you. Please let us know if you have any questions at all. Loved this place!

This property was fantastic and we absolutely loved our stay here! It was only a 10 minute walk or so to the beach which was stunning. It was homey, clean, secure, filled with wildlife, and let me just say I think I may have taken the best naps of my life on those hammocks. Ben was a fantastic host and even provided private surfing lessons for our kiddos which they absolutely adored. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home!

Great stay

We had a great trip. The host/owner was on site and immediately responded to any concerns we had. We were there a month, so we became friends. We had several dinners together, and shared rides into tamarindo for groceries, produce, etc. he was great with our boys and their girlfriends, helping them with surf boards and advice. The listing, however,, was not accurate……there was no downhill or cross country skiing.

Great location and best beach!

Great beach getaway!

Me and a small group stayed at both places on Ben's property. The accommodations were nice for what I have experienced in Costa Rica. The property was a short walk to the beach and Ben's was a very responsive host!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Ben was a great host, super friendly! All the rooms have cold AC which is important on those hot days at the beach. All in all a great stay, would recommend 10/10!

family adventure

This VRBO was an excellent fit for out family: me, my spouse, and our two young adult children. We were together and yet had plenty of privacy- 3 bathrooms (fantastic showers) and 3 large comfortable beds! Ben is a wonderful host, providing great advice and recommendations, easy to contact at any time. We rented a car for our trip but rarely used it while in Avellanas, preferring to walk rather than ride around on rough roads. There is quite a variety of dining options that are 5-10 min walk. We cooked a few meals at the house as well. The stove works well. Beach access down the road and through Cabinas de Las Olas was a nice walk, especially when rewarded by magnificent surf and gorgeous sunsets.

Beautiful Location Lovely House

The hammocks were so relaxing with all the nature sounds and birds singing. There were even howler monkeys and scarlett macaws in the yard. The walk to the beach was absolutely gorgeous and the beach was even more stunning. This was all around such a great stay. Can’t say enough nice things.

Great Costa Rican Getaway

Stayed here with a group of 5. There was plenty of room for us in the house, it didn't feel cramped. The property was nice and secure and the hammocks were great to lounge in. We all felt like the walk to the beach was fine and would consider it the definition of walking distance. Would highly recommend this place for a group looking for an authentic Tico experience.

We loved our stay here and were bummed to leave and to say goodbye to our host, Ben! This was a fantastic spot for our family of six, with three bedrooms, each featuring a king-size bed and its own bathroom. The local beach and the walk to it were amazing—we saw so much wildlife! Our host was incredibly helpful, providing excellent recommendations for restaurants and local activities. One highlight of our trip and a recommendation from our host was visiting a nearby turtle hatchery, where our kids got to release a baby turtle into the ocean. Ben even shared some freshly plantains for the property, which was a cool experience for our kids. Thanks again!

Great Spot!

The house was perfect for our little surf adventure! Once we figured out that the boardwalk to the beach was through the Cabinas Las Olas across the street...the location is perfect! Thanks for being so accommodating to a later check-out!

Ben is the best

Ben is the best host. He is super easy to contact, he replies in less than a hour usually, and if there’s anything you need he’s the guy to ask. His recommendations were wonderful. We loved the restaurants nearby, and Playa Avellanas is incredible. Thanks so much for everything Ben. Pura Vida!

Relaxing stay

Ben could not have been more helpful or attentive, even providing additional details and tips prior to our arrival. He was there to greet us, but his presence was overshadowed by the group of howler monkeys on the property - what a thrill! The house was spacious enough for the 4 of us, the stunning beach was a short walk away, and the local fare was delicious and affordable. The area was quiet enough that we were able to relax in the hammocks. All in all, a fantastic way to end our Costa Rica trip!

Very Spacious, Comfortable, & Walk to Beach!

Ben is an excellent host. He stayed in touch with me the whole time we stayed there to make sure everything was great. His property is amazing. Very comfortable, spacious and waking distance to Lola's and all the surf spots for us. Also 10 mins drive to Playa Negra. Big beds, AC in all rooms, Netflix, hot water and even had Apple TV. Lots of hammocks outside to relax. I highly recommend this place. Pura Vida to the max!

Live Like a Local

Ben and his staff went out of their way to initiate and maintain communication with us as soon as we arrived in Costa Rica. We loved spending time outside on the hammocks and deck, and the proximity to the beach and restaurants was appropriate walking distance for our family which included small children. We had some hiccups with hot water and outlets due to a lightening storm but Ben and his crew were very responsive and got the issues resolved promptly. The property felt safe and we were happy to experience life in a Costa Rican style home. I would recommend the property to anyone with similar expectations. We would stay there again! Thanks Ben!

Not what expected

Aunts in every bathroom. Very heavy doors including main gate Combination Two adults needed to slide gate. Beach not what you call walking distance. Water pressure was so low could barely wash or brush teeth much less shower. The place was so depressing, we left after two nights. We are requesting some refund.

Great beach cottage

We spend two weeks in this great cottage and had a wonderful time. Exactly like described: three bedrooms, three baths, a kitchen, air conditioning, spacious with a rustic charm. Beautiful art pieces hang from the walls and ceilings. Great for families, surrounded by trees and animals. Very close to the beach so that we would walk every morning to enjoy the waves. It’s impossible not to fall in love with this beach. The sunset is magical and my favourite time of the day for a stroll along the water. Last but most certainly not least our host Ben is truly a wonderful human being who did everything to make our stay great. Even pave the street because of the dust! We made extraordinary memories here while unwinding and touching base with ourselves and our family as a whole. We really appreciate you Ben, thanks for teaching the girls how to surf and for sharing your piece of paradise.

Avellanas Surf,

We stayed with our adult children , 7 people all together. The house looks even better than the pictures, it was very clean and obvious pride taken in the preparations. The 3 California King beds were great, the AC a luxury and 3 bathrooms with showers! I booked this home based on good reviews about Ben himself and he didn't disappoint - he went above and beyond, he helped the surfers in our group, with boards, suggestions and lessons/coaching. He also was full of great info on the area, where to eat get groceries, tours and transport. He lives the Pura Vida life. The walk to the beach is about 10 minutes, we got to see howler monkeys and all sorts of birds , geckos lizards on the way. The boardwalk through the mangroves was the best. The price for accommodation is very reasonable based on location, Avellanas beach is gorgeous and not over crowded. Lolas and Las Olas were daily visits for food. We all hope to visit again.

A wonderful beach paradise!

We loved Playa Avellanas! It was a beautiful beach with a cool walk through the Mangroves. It’s a great beach for surfing and sunsets. It was by far our favorite of all the beaches we visited! We were a bit disappointed with the kitchen, only because we chose to cook in many meals and found that the kitchen was ill equipped to accommodate us. We were, however, very pleased with Ben and his willingness to answer any of our questions, and take care of any problems that may have arisen. His staff was amazing and took care of all of our needs! Ben was in constant contact with us, making sure that we were comfortable, and we appreciate his hospitality and graciousness. We had heard the howler monkeys howling all throughout the week, but never saw them. On our last day, as were getting ready to go, we were very fortunate to see 15 of them in the trees on the property… What a treat!

Really cool beach house!

My boyfriend and I were above satisfied with the beach house! Ben and Luz (the housekeeper) were extremely helpful and accommodating! The cute and cozy cabina has everything you need while giving you the true vibe of Costa, to live simply. We rarely ate out but instead shopped at the local grocery store just a short 7-10 min drive down the road and cooked all our meals at home. The cabina was cleaned regularly and the cleaner did an awesome job.. The beach was amazing! Short walk either down the Las Olas boardwalk or through the river mouth. The waves were also amazing as my boyfriend is a surfer and this was the perfect location to travel both ways up and down the coast in search of waves. Howler monkeys live nearby as well as all sorts of amazing wildlife and vegetation. We did two tours from here, the tour group "Anywhere Costa Rice" will actually pick you up from the hotel next door which was awesome and convenient and they have many options to pick from. All in all, we loved this place and wish we didn't have to leave!

Wonderful surf destination :-)

We chose to stay with Ben because he offered great rates and had an excellent location in Avellanas. The accomodations are great and there is even 3 TVs with Netflix for those few days that Avellanas does not have a swell (very few and far between). Ben is a gracious and accomodating host who went to all lengths to ensure our stay was comfortable and most importantly enjoyable. His surf lessons were exceptional, my boyfriend literally went from limited experience in the ocean to catching his first waves in only two sessions with Ben. He is as good with intermediates as beginners and helped me to get past a plateau I've been stuck on for over a year! He also has an extensive selection of boards for those who are not in need of instruction, and has the best rates we found anywhere around. The beach access is close enough and the mangrove boardwalk is a wonderful experience. I can't say enough about our stay, everything just fell into place perfectly, and it was an experience we won't ever forget. If you get the chance I highly recommend this house, and Ben, it's most gracious host/owner!

Authentic Costa Rica experience

If your looking for an authentic experience Ben’s beach house is the place for you. 1st Ben is a great communicator who was readily available pre-trip for any questions and recommendations we had as 1st time visitors. The beach house is ideally located within Avellanas beach town which is an up and coming location. The gated house while rustic is comfortable and we found we were able to relax while watching the Howler monkeys who regularly come through the property and ate as a troup from the mango trees. Amazing experience. Ben regularly checked in on us a group of ladies to ensure we were safe, and had all that we needed. Costa Rican roads are notorious for pot holes, crazy drivers and takes much more time to get to your destination, so keep that in mind if your a 1st time traveller to the country. In saying that a car is highly recommended to see further and to pick up supplies if self-catering. We had decided to eat breakfast on location and dine out each evening for dinner and the number of restaurants and quality of food did not disappoint. A few recommendations I made to Ben upon request for feedback are more chairs on location and beach chairs and umbrellas to make the beach day more comfortable. It would also be helpful as many VRBO locations have a binder with local activities & restaurants for when your not available to recommend. amazing beach house

This house was exactly what we pictured. A beautiful house by the beach with A.C. and a place to lay our heads at night. Walking distance to the beach with plenty of awesome restaurants near by. You don't need a car but we found that renting one with 4 wheel drive left us more options to see things we may have missed without one. Ben will accommodate you in any way possible to make sure your stay is perfection. I stayed with my brother who took up the awesome chance to get surf lessons with Ben. He is a great teacher and they both walked away from the water with smiles on their faces. There is a huge Mango tree right outside the door that we picked from. The bathrooms are so cool! Lounge outside in the hammocks with a beer and listen to the howler monkeys. If your looking for a cool spot by the ocean and like to kick it low key this is the spot. Don't expect to be pampered wined and dined. Staying here makes you feel like you live like the locals. Do it. It's awesome. We love Ben and his house!! We want to come back!!

Playa Avellanas is perfect for the non-touristy tourist

We loved our stay at Ben’s property. We got a late start getting there from San Jose, and arrived after 9pm. Ben waited up for us, and was very kind about it all. The house has 3 bedrooms and a very small, but functional kitchen. The hammocks are a nice touch. Ben was very responsive about all of our needs, and we had a few! And oh, let me tell you about Playa Avellanas! It’s about a 10 minute walk to the beach from the house, along a dusty gravel road. Cars move a little too fast, so just be aware. There is a great little shortcut to the beach through the mangroves boardwalk. This beach is AWESOME! Easy to find a spot in the shade. Great surfing waves. Some gentle surf for my 1 year old to play in. And, no one tried to sell me anything the whole time we were there! It’s definitely not the tourist destination of nearby Tamarindo, there are only a couple restaurant choices and no souvenir shops to speak of. But if you just want to relax in a beautiful place, and not be bothered but the hubbub of a busy tourist trap, I think you will love this place.
