We really enjoyed the atmosphere and environment of this cozy home in Port Charlotte. The house sits at the end of a road where the only traffic are the few neighbors that live next door and across the street. Shops and stores are only a few miles away and traffic is very manageable; this was a pleasant contrast to our own property up north. My wife and I felt very relaxed after spending a few days watching the sunset and gazing into the clear water off the private dock.
The house was amazing! It had everything we needed. You always worry about the beds but we kept raving about how well we slept. The beds were super comfortable and the pillows were amazing.
We enjoyed a sunset every single night right from the pool area with a cocktail in hand. The pool was properly heated so that everyone was able to enjoy. The house was a great size and had a great layout for our group of 5 adults and 2 kids! We ran out of propane and the owners responded within moments and had one ready for us. Already looking forward to staying at the same house next year!

Decent Stay
We had a relatively good stay at this house. We arrived to Port Charolette early and the owners were nice enough to let us check in early. We arrived and the house was not as big as depicted in the pictures but we checked the house out and the pool was cloudy and dirty which was understandable because the pool guy is supposed to come Wednesdays which was fine we contacted the owner and she got a handyman out to the house to do what he depicted as a “spot cleaning” until the pool guy was to come on Wednesday. The handyman came out and said it should do until Wednesday when the pool guy comes but the pool guy did not come on Wednesday due to being on vacation. The dryer did not work well and took multiple times to dry clothing no matter the load size and temperature set on it. We did have a large crowd up to the maximum and the bunk beds were nice to have. The bedroom closest to the garage was constantly hot but we managed. If you do rent please be safe on the tiles closest to the door by the pool it is hard and when wet dangerous. The wind and rain was pretty bad during our stay and ripped some of the covering off the lanai, so we hope that gets fixed, but overall a decent stay. The port Charolette beach was closed so we went to Englewood beach if you’re needing a beach to go to. The communications were good and we had a decent stay. The owners have a few properties and we seen pictures of the house beside it and it seemed nice too. Possibly a next year stay.

Black Mold
Upon arrival we noticed the awnings that were shown on the listing were no longer there and neither was the front gate, obviously due to Hurricane Ian but never replaced so why aren’t the listing pics updated!? We were a little early so we walked around the house and picked up a grocery bag of trash. Once inside we saw the condition of the couch was very worn including holes in the fabric, The furniture was dilapidated to put it nicely. The other living room seating provided were two outdoor wicker chairs with only a thin seat cushion, not comfortable at all!! The glider that was shown on the listing was moved to the guest bedroom, we’re guessing because it was missing an arm an entire right side of the glider....Ha !
The house smelled moldy and we found upon checking out the kitchen cabinets mold was growing inside some of them. The mold seemed to be throughout the entire house along the base boards and tile in the master shower. Our guest (Mona's family) had to leave 3 days early and get a hotel room due to mold allergies. Also a shelf was not attached in one of them, limiting storage of dry goods. Going outside to the pool we saw a large patch of black mold growing on the wall next to the pool. Our grand kids were coming in later that afternoon so so we had to scrub that and the surrounding pool area that was also dirty. The BBQ pit was unusable, burners were disintegrated, rusty and broken and the grates all rusted over. The owner did have a new one delivered and this o

Response from VrboOwner on 22 Mar 2024
Although Tim left our home in fine condition upon check out, I cannot recommend him as a guest. He and his wife arrived at the house nearly two hours early, despite our explicit check in instructions clearly stating that check in is not until 4:00pm. Upon arriving early, we also noticed he brought his dog along, which he did not include in his reservation (we charge an additional pet fee). In fact, not only did he not include his dog, but we later learned from concerned neighboring guests that he also had other members not included in his reservation. As I'm sure you are aware, this goes against not only our guidelines but VRBO's as well.
During his stay, he made it apparent that unfortunately the house was not up to HIS standard. I use the term "his standard" lightly, because we have never received a negative review of our home from other guests. In fact, the family who checked out the day Tim checked in, left us probably one of the most raving reviews we have ever received. I encourage everybody reading this to check out Wendy's review of this very same property on Airbnb. Despite his frustration, we immediately addressed Tim's concerns and offered to rectify what we could in the moment. Just to give you an idea of a few things we did and offered to do to help make his stay better... Within 24 hours we had a brand new grill delivered & set up, we scheduled somebody up to come power wash the pool area the very next day, we sent our handy man over to assist with the pool heater & lastly, insisted we send our cleaner back to address his main concern.
At 2:35pm (still an hour and a half prior to his check in time), he denied everything we were offering to do, however he continued to send knit picky pictures and made accusations of mold, which was in fact minor water damage in a cabinet nobody, not even us as the home owners, use. That evening at 6:33pm, we learned from Tim that a glider in the living room was broken. We immediately apologized about the mishap & at 7:04pm we received another text message of a picture of Tim in the glider saying "settling in & very comfortable". For somebody who seemed extremely disappointed in a home that has never received negative reviews, it was becoming apparent that Tim is somebody who thrives off of complaining, but refuses assistance.
The next morning at 9:26am, we received more harassing pictures from Tim, of his wife attempting to take care of the things we offered to do the day prior. I reminded him that it was not their responsibility & we were trying hard to make it right to ensure he and his family had a good stay. At 9:34am, he then stated that he did not want to "deal" with the help we were offering to send. We were lost on what more we could offer to do, but granted his wish & let it be.
About a week later, we received another text message from Tim saying he was having trouble with the pool heater, despite us explaining that it is on a timer & doesn't run all day. Instead of going back and forth via text, we called Tim on February 23rd at 6:20pm. We attempted to explain word for word where to go & what to do, but unfortunately Tim was not understanding, as he was actually at the electrical panel flicking breakers. After getting frustrated, Tim said, "this isn't worth my time right now. If you fix it great, if not I dont even fucking swim" and hung up. Nothing was actually broken, therefore nothing needed to be fixed, but had he allowed us to send somebody to the house his first day to show him where the pool heater is, this entire conversation could have been avoided.
After Tim's two week stay, we received an email from him, 15 days after check out, requesting that he felt he should only pay less than half of our nightly rate. This concern was not brought up once during his stay. From the very beginning of Tim's arrival, it was obvious that no matter how much we tried, nothing was going to satisfy him. Unfortunately our house did not meet or satisfy his needs, but as they say, there is always going to be "one".
