Great single-family home for get-togethers at the beach! Short walk to the ocean approximately 1800 feet. Newly renovated, amazing kitchen, bathroom, and flooring! Originally, a two-bedroom flat roof cottage the "Kneas Family Cottage" has evolved into the perfect beach vacation location for families hosting five bedrooms and 3 full baths, one-half bath + an outside shower. With a beautiful deck overlooking a large grassy lot, it is walking distance (1800 feet) to the beach, you may also drive and park at the 5th street beach access. Short walk to the Sound, and shopping making it the ideal affordable rental home for large families.

The first-floor living area and newly renovated kitchen are a large open "L" shaped area with plenty of seating for dining, TV, reading area, and gaming. Two bedrooms and one and a half baths are located on the first floor. One of these bedrooms is ideal for children as it hosts 2 full-size beds and three singles. There is also an outside shower to use when returning from the beach. On the second floor, the cozy living area with TV opens to the sun deck. Two of the bedrooms (one queen and one full) are off the second living area with one full bathroom. The third bedroom (queen bed) and bath (master)is separated from the living area for more privacy. The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Load and start the dishwasher
Store extra beds
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights and lock the doors
Please sweep any excess sand in the rooms. Put trash in the outside bins and place them on Elizabeth City street side of the house. Trash pick up is Friday's and Tuesday’s.
Close windows and blinds. Place tv remotes and sign out of any apps or put back on HDMI 1 if you changed. Put dishes away in cupboards. Put bedspreads back on the beds.
Clean up any pet fecal matter left in yard. Lock doors. If any mattress covers got soiled please try and wash or let me know.Please let me know if any damages.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
Floors swept of excess sand, refrigerator empty and wiped out. Trash taken out pick up is Tuesday and Friday morning before 7 am
The refrigerator must be cleaned and emptied out prior to departure. Grill cleaned after use $250 fine will be applied. Bedspreads back on the bed
Dogs must be crated when left alone in the house, have proof of flea treatment prior to arrival. Clean up after the pet in the yard before departure.

This rental was amazing! No issues at all. Very clean and kept up nicely. A lot of space for a lot of people. Close enough to a lot of stores and beach access. The personal touches throughout the home gave a sense of closeness of family and it was great to learn more about them. We will definitely stay in the future and will recommend to others. Thank you for helping us to celebrate our anniversary in a nonstressful environment.

We have a wonderful time at this home! Would 10/10 recommend! It was far enough away from the beach for some peace and quiet but close enough to walk to! The inside was big enough to allow my family, sisters family & our father to all be under one roof for vacation. Absolutely amazing!

Great time at this property in Kill Devil Hills. The host was available and helpful whenever needed. Vrbo didn’t contact us till the day before we were to access the property. We became a bit nervous about entrance to the property but the host allayed our fears and all was well. Spacious, clean and very comfortable! Thank you Kneas family!

Vacation rental

We really enjoyed the stay. The trip over to the beach worked very smoothly. We wished there was more than one set of keys. Unfortunately we saw some bugs which we understand can happen and there was a contractor that came to spray for it. We wanted to mention that just so it could help you for future rentals. We are well aware how difficult it is to keep rentals always cleaned etc. In the end we had a good trip and enjoyed the stay. Thanks for sharing your home with us.

Close to The Beach and Bike Riding

It was a great place to stay, close to everything like the beach, bike riding, movie theater, and stores. The house was big enough for our entire family. There's plenty of sleeping areas and even extra mattresses for a large family like mine. This house was perfect for a large family. I would highly recommend staying there again.

Perfect location with everything you need.

We came in as a party of twelve and left with no complaints at all. The house is a ten-minute walk from both the beach and Target, and a short drive to plenty of other activities. It has plenty of rooms with great air ventilation, wifi and utilities, and a great shower/bathroom count that never inconvenienced us. Would absolutely recommend for summer trips.

This is a very nice place. Close to the beach and many stores. Not far from attractions like Wright Brothers and state parks. Adults and kids were all happy. We all had plenty of room for downtime at the house and more than enough room for sleeping. It was a big hit for our family.

Family vacay

While my family and I enjoyed the property, we did not find it to be as described online. It indicated that there is a hot tub and there is not a hot tub on this property. It also mentioned a fenced in back yard and while there are fences, they are the neighbors fences and it is not enclosed. The floors were very sandy when we arrived and the ice machine needed to be cleaned. This property was very convenient to so many great places and regardless of the incorrect description, I would stay here again.

Nice, basic house in Kill Devil Hills

This house was nice and clean and within walking distance of the beach if you don't mind crossing the busy street. It had all of the basics. You do need to bring your own sheets and towels which we were all able to do. One problem we had was that it states that there are blankets for all the beds, but we used the two rollaway beds and the trundle mattress and there was only one extra blanket in the whole house to be shared between the three extra beds. I called the hostess and she recommended using the throw on the chair in the living room as the second blanket. My son happened to bring a small blanket for the car and we used that for the third blanket for that last bed. People who are planning on using those beds should know so that they are prepared. Also, there is quite an extensive check-out list but the check-out time is on the earlier end (10 AM). It makes it hard to get everything she wants done. For example, many other places we've stayed ask that you start the dishwasher before you leave. This house asks that you wash it and then unload it as well. Kind of hard to get both of those in with a 10 AM check-out. Laundering of dishcloths and hot pads is similar. An extra hour before check-out would be helpful or a more realistic checkout list. Despite those few things, we had a lovely vacation and appreciated the Kneas Cottage. The hostess answered quickly to all of our questions. Thank you for sharing your space with us!

Family Reunion

The house was perfect for our stay. We had adults and one almost teen and everyone had plenty of space! Super close walking distance to the beach, Target and Wawa. For over 60 years the Kneas family has vacationed at the Outer Banks in Kill Devils Hills, NC. Elizabeth and Harvey Kneas purchased this vacation home in the 1960s just after the historic Ash Wednesday storm. The Kneas' brought the house as a vacation home while residing in Portsmouth, Virginia, about 1 1/2 hours north of the OBX. Originally, a two-bedroom flat roof cottage, the family has designed and remodeled the home into a perfect family gathering location. The Kneas family has spent many years at the 'cottage' hosting reunions, birthdays, anniversaries, and just summer fun beach time together. Sons Butch and Jim grew up spending lazy summer days at the beach and later working as lifeguards, bartenders, and other odd jobs through high school and their college years. Now the Kneas' grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoy the cottage; this third generation is learning to body surf, build sandcastles, play putt-putt, and enjoy all the OBX has to offer.

You may cross the highway with the pedestrian signal. Also a short walk to the sound. Newly renovated kitchen and bathrooms to include new flooring. Close to many restaurants and shopping, great bike paths and a short walk to the Sound.

What makes this property unique

Walking distance to both the beach, sound and shopping makes it the ideal OBX home for large family get togethers. Located at mile post 6 1/2 it is close to the Wright Brothers Memorial, several miles of bike paths, and Jockey's Ridge for hang gliding and kite flying. Minutes away from Oregon Inlet where you can drive on the beautiful beaches, fish from the shoreline or charter a deep sea fishing boat.
