The home was recently updated by a family who welcomes groups to gather and have fun in their home. To engage with each other, to make and share food, play music, and relax on vacation. Every detail was well thought out so that you only need to bring your clothes and groceries. This is the essence of a mountain house.
Outside living- Surprise Valley was named appropriately; when you drive up the driveway and see the view behind the house, you will be in awe. You would never guess what is beyond the sweet house in the woods. The back deck, hot tub, and fire pit area are located above a wildlife pond and open farm that extends Westward to a beautiful mountain panorama. There are cows in the field, different species of birds visiting the pond, and breath taking sunsets to behold. The front porch is perched above the wooded front hillside with comfortable seating. A great place to look for songbirds and listen to the wind in the trees.

The home includes many of the basic things you will need while visiting, including all linens, towels, dish soap, laundry soap, trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper, and small shampoos/conditioners. If you forget any essentials at home or need to replenish anything during your stay, there is a Dollar General in Hot Springs and a few other small shops that are open daily and convenient to the property.
Even though you may feel like there is no one else around, the home is situated in a rural neighborhood with normal sounds of kids and pets and cows mooing in the adjacent fields.
Hot Springs is a great destination in all seasons! The weather can be mild compared to higher mountains and roads are tended in the wintertime. The Hot Springs Spa is open year-around for hot mineral soaks. Restaurants and shops are open as well, and we love to hike the Lover's Leap trail on cool, sunny days when things are a bit quieter around here.
Summer is a wonderful season to enjoy many things to do outside, including rafting and tubing and venturing up to Max Patch Bald. The pace is slow and easy around town, and Hot Springs is also a great central location for day trips to Asheville, Smoky Mountain National Park, Gatlinburg, Waynesville, and many more adventurous locations.
Spring sees beautiful mountain wildflowers and hikers traveling through on the Appalachian Trail. The weather can go from 80-degree days to a dusting of snow and anywhere in between.
Fall never disappoints with endless potentials to see the trees changing at different elevations and finishing your day with a fire and soak in the natural hot springs (or your own private hot tub) or a beverage at Big Pillow Brewing.
A local management company is available to assist you if you need anything during your stay.

Came to Hot Springs to meet my daughter and son-in-law of the Appalachian Trail. Couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. Close to town with all the amenities! Beautiful peaceful place. But the townspeople were so friendly and a wonderful time was had by all of us!
This cabin is a gem with a great view! It is nicely furnished, the kitchen has great appliances and is fully equipped to prepare and serve meals. The beds are comfortable and everything was super clean! Our family came into town to do some hiking and the hot tub was a great way to unwind!
We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend getaway. The cabin was perfect, great decor, fully stocked kitchen and great outdoor space. The town of Hot Springs is adorable.

Amazing house! We will come back to Hot Springs just to stay here! Perfect location, very peaceful sitting by the fire pit drinking coffee watching the wildlife. I have never stayed in a “Home” that was so well equipped. The hosts were extremely responsive, as I had several questions. One of our best stays ever!

Close to Hot Springs, yet quiet with beautiful rural views. Enjoyed the fire pit & hot tub. Lots of comfy places to sleep and bathe, and plenty of room for all of us. Plenty of parking too. Wildlife were also incredible. The birder in me was thrilled to hear a Whip Poor Will for the first time in decades!!

Melissa, thank you! We appreciate you choosing to stay at Surprise Valley, as well as taking the time to write a review. The birds have been very active this spring and summer, and seem to be content that we have had some good rain spells. We hope that you will consider a return trip in the near future.

House was clean and comfortable. Everything was as promised. My only warning on the house is that the drive is a little steep but nothing to bad. I would definitely stay again. Also the empty field made a great view of to the mountains.

Hello Nicholas,
Thank you for staying with us at Surprise Valley! We are glad that the house met your expectations. We do hope that if you are ever in the area again that you will consider staying with us again.
Warmly,
Marion and Mary Helen, Rental Host
The house was well stocked and comfortable for our family of six, and probably could have accommodated a couple more folks. It was less than a mile from the little town of Hot Springs which had a few good eateries, a brewery with live music(some nights), and a small market. Essentially, all activities are outdoors, including hiking and swimming. We had a wonderful day renting a pontoon boat for tubing on Lake Douglas(TN) about an hour away.

Pros
Very clean, well equipped, loved the furniture and decor. Especially the couch., And the lighting, location is great. Views are awesome.
Cons
Takes an unacceptable amount of time for hot water to reach fixtures, toilets are small,
Seems hot and cold water lines were reversed on a couple fixtures.

Helllo Scott, we are happy that you enjoyed your stay at Surprise Valley and the area that it is located. For now, the toilets and time for hot water to reach are not something we can change, but we can see if there are hot and cold water lines that are reversed!
We do hope you will stay with us again the next time you are in Hot Springs.
Warmly,
Marion and Mary Helen, Rental Host
We enjoyed our girls' trip. The house and the location was perfect. We had booked a white water rafting trip in Hot Springs and sines at athe Iron Horse. Every was fabulous. We all would highly recommend you to our friends. I left a little note in the house and wanted to make you aware that there is an electrical short in the light switch in the master bedroom. Thank you again for the great accomodations and a great weekend.

Lynn, thank you for staying at Surprise Valley. Glad that it was a perfect spot for your gathering. We appreciate you being our guest, taking the time to review, and for sharing the word about our rental to others. And, yes, we had an electrician come and fix the issue after your departure. Thanks for the intell on this. We hope you will consider a return trip soon.
Wonderful place! We had the family there for my wife's birthday weekend. The house decor is soothing, the view of the pond and mountains are fabulous, and the house is extremely conveniently located! We enjoyed the hot tub multiple times and were even visited daily by the neighborhood rooster! The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare her birthday dinner.
We had a little trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi (coudn't totally go off the grid), but the hosts were gracious and patient in helping us sort it out.
Highly recommend!

We are so happy that you enjoyed the house and surroundings and had a nice getaway for your wife's birthday! Thank you for reviewing and sharing your positive experience.
House, inside and out, is immaculate, well done. The floorplan is spacious with fresh/new decor, comfortable furniture & beds, great kitchen, and new looking appliances. Living room is well laid out for big screen TV viewing with 2 large sofas. We didn't use the hot tub but it had been prepared for guests and was located for the view. The view to the large pond and mountains is extraordinary. We liked the convenient 1 mile distance to Hot Springs and quiet, secluded property with well maintained driveway. First rate in every way, including host communications. (Minor faults include a bit tricky, raised, concrete square stepping stones and ....no others come to mind! All around comfortable and stylish and easy.
