Enjoy the fresh mountain air at our newly renovated 3 bed cabin in the heart of the Catskills. Situated on 10 acres of private land, our cozy home in West Kill, NY borders a stream and is a wonderful escape, ready to be explored any time of the year — we're close to notable spots for hiking, fishing, skiing, antique shopping, the wonderful West Kill Brewery, and more. With high-speed internet (200 mbps) access, this is also your home office, away from home. We look forward to having you stay!
_______________
Originally built as a one-room cabin, our cottage is approximately 1,500 square feet, including a large stone mudroom for your hiking, fishing, and ski gear. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home offers a large kitchen, dining area, an original stone fireplace (**Please bring your own firewood**), and a cedar sunroom, perfect for board games and puzzles, or curling up for an afternoon of reading.
You'll also have access to our HBO Max guest account to stream TV shows and movies. You can also log in to your Netflix, Amazon Prime, or Apple TV accounts on our new smart TV.
Our Nest router and additional Nest Point provide a reliable high-speed internet (200 mbps) mesh network throughout the home — ideal for catching up on emails and plenty of video/conference calls if you need to check in with the office. The workspace in the master bedroom features a 47” desk, office chair, and a widescreen Dell monitor. To use the monitor, a mDP cable is needed (please bring your own cables).
Our newly installed heating and cooling system provides a comfortable climate indoors, year-round. In the master bedroom, you may hear a low hum from the condenser outside.
PLEASE NOTE: We are located in the Catskills, surrounded by forestry and wooded areas, and also home to many animals and critters, including deer, foxes, field mice, chipmunks, spiders, mosquitos, garden snakes, and other insects. While they are all harmless, such sightings are not uncommon. Please keep all doors to the home closed at all times, even if you're just popping out for a second.
We love our home but recognize it's not for everyone. We work really hard to make each stay comfortable and welcoming, however, being as remote as we are, perfection isn't always possible.

Hi Sarah, our stay there with my family was really nice. We had a great time. Lots of love, peace and quiet place was clean. We enjoy the stay and maybe sometime in the future we could do it again.
We had an amazing family vacation here. The place was clean and well organized, with everything we needed for a relaxing time. We cooked outside every night and it was nice to have both gas and charcoal grilling options. We had fun playing bocce on the lawn and enjoyed seeing a lot of wildlife in the big meadow. The area is great too, close to hiking trails and some fishing lakes. We would definitely stay here again, in any season.
This property was the perfect stay for me and my family! The house was very comfortable and had everything you would want or need while staying there including a fully stocked kitchen. The property and grounds were well kept, beautiful, and provided lots of wildlife sightings including black bear, deer, chipmunks, and groundhogs. We would absolutely rent again in the future.
Got away for a long weekend and this place did not disappoint! it was so charming and loved how peaceful the area was! It was a great location to travel into the neighboring towns
Great place to escape the city! Cute brewery near by, as well as many severance related sets! If you love the show, a fun little trivia area to explore. Also, the grill was great!
Had a great weekend getaway. The place is close to hiking fishing and a brewery. The kitchen had everything we needed and plenty of space in the common areas. We will definitely try to come back!
We stayed here for a week in February. The house was very cozy and had everything we needed, and we enjoyed our stay overall. The large property is gorgeous and was great for our toddler to explore the winter landscape and play in the snow. Two observations at the time of our stay: 1) As was clearly disclosed on the listing, the bedroom closest to the hall bathroom is close to the outdoor heating unit/air conditioning and as such there is a low hum when it's on. This didn't bother us, but noteworthy for those that may be [acutely] noise sensitive. 2) There seemed to be some drainage issues in the mudroom and at times there was an unpleasant smell. Thankfully this didn't come into the main house at all and the mudroom was otherwise very useful given all the snow.
The house was beautiful and extremely clean. Well equipped with all of kitchen needs and then some. I loved the sunroom full of windows to look out. The property was secluded with a running stream next to it. Very peaceful and serene. At night we enjoyed a fire in the fire pit with s’mores. We were close to a couple of trails. There was the West Kill Brewery right down the road. I would recommend a trip to there. The weather was humid but the house had good air conditioning to keep it cool. There was a barbecue grill with both propane and charcoal. We would definitely go back. Highly recommend this property. We didn’t need to contact the owner but if we did we had the information to do so.
I cannot even say one positive thing about this rental. From the second we stepped inside the cabin and immediately fell because there is a step down - was an awful experience. When we arrived there was no electricity. It was pitch black and we didn’t have a flashlight, because who would have thought to pack one? Not us because we are obviously from out of town, otherwise we wouldn’t be in a rental. After we drove around for 45 minutes to find a cell signal so we could alert the ‘house manager’ of this, only to realize she was just a keyboard warrior who let us know it wasn’t her fault. She did not let us know where we could find a flashlight, or even let us know where we could buy one. She couldn’t direct us to where we could buy ice, to salvage the food we brought with us, because she was too busy blaming us for the situation. In this properties ‘manual’ (and not the fun kind with trail maps and take out menus) there is section dedicated to black outs, if you have to put it in your ‘manual’ it obviously happens very often. It would have been nice to know before hand so we could have been prepared. The ‘manual’ mentions lanterns that are of use to us - but the lantern was a glow stick from 1995 and 1 single tea light candle. The next day a strange man showed up on the property we were not alerted of this and honestly if I was there with anyone other than my boyfriend, I would have been freaking out. If this is your idea of a great time, this is the rental for you.

Hi Katelyn, we're sorry for your less-than-ideal check-in experience.
To better contextualize your grievances, I'd think it's only fair to point out that a powerful storm in the area downed a few powerlines at around 10 PM, which unfortunately for all parties, happened just about an hour before you checked into the house. Admittedly, enough time to cause significant friction for new guests during check-in, but the refrigerator in the kitchen still should have managed to keep your perishables from spoiling until power was restored in the morning. Additionally, after power was restored at 7 AM, you had access to all the amenities you claimed we falsely advertised about "Electricity, air conditioning, FAST internet" for the duration of your stay.
Our property manager attempted to notify you as soon as we were contacted by our utility provider, but could not do so because of the lack of cell service in the area (as noted in our property description). It is not something that was "wrong" with the house, as you pointed out in several aggressive text messages to her. We can not control mother nature or the pace at which the power company restores electricity. In the countryside, when there's a downed power line from fallen trees, blackouts do occur, and just like we list locations for fire extinguishers in our manual, it's a precaution - the house doesn't go on fire often, but if there is a fire, here's what to do.
In addition to that one glow stick our kids left in the top kitchen drawer -- in the same drawer we have a headlamp and a flashlight; and throughout the house, over half a dozen candles/tea lights, two 1000-lumen lanterns (one in the kitchen, the other in the mud room). You probably couldn't see them on the first night, so we'll do a better job of placing them in the house. Thank you for this valuable feedback.
In regards to the strange man, our property manager insisted on sending one of her team members to bring an extra tank of propane, after you were upset over an empty propane tank attached to the grill. But as our property manager pointed out in her texts, in our manual, we mention there is a spare tank in the shed. Our property manager wanted to go above and beyond in response to your very pointed and aggressive text messages, in an attempt to salvage your weekend, but we do apologize if that startled you.
Again, we're all very sorry about your experience, and even provided you a partial refund to hopefully lessen the sting. Just one final note, there's a flashlight built into your cell phone, I would highly suggest using it if you find yourself in a similar predicament.
