Although built in 1891 this farmhouse has been totally renovated by a professional designer. The Cottage is filled with coastal colors and accessories so it feels fun and updated but still retains the feeling of walking into a well loved family beach cottage. We are pet friendly as any beach cottage should be and love seeing our guests and their pets enjoying the cottage. Follow the cottage on social media @ BlueOysterCottage for more pictures, design ideas and local places to visit.
Upon arrival you will first enter into a well appointed but charming kitchen with a custom recycled glass island perfect for prepping or serving meals. All the appliances are new including a gas range. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to cook breakfast , lunch or an elaborate seafood feast from the local waters. There is also a well stocked coffee bar perfectly placed to grab a cup of coffee as you head out onto the porch. Also in the kitchen you will find an enclosed washer and dryer. The kitchen opens up into the large dining area which features a gas fireplace. This is a little tricky to operate so we ask to show you in person if you plan on using the fireplace. The table seats 6 and is perfect for enjoying meals, games or working on a laptop.
The comfortable and cozy living room features a smart TV which will let you log into your personal streaming services and watch your favorite shows. The cabinets are filled with an extensive collection of games , puzzles , and books. There is a small sitting room on the other side of the entry hall with a twin daybed and closet. The daybed is filled with comfortable pillows and is perfect for naps, quiet reading, or as extra sleeping space.
Upstairs are 2 bedrooms, each with vaulted ceilings, decorative fireplaces, and lots of period detail. The larger room has a queen bed and the smaller has full size bed. The fluffy beds, soft colors and fabrics, and sun filled windows overlooking the private yard make you feel as if you are staying in a charming bed and breakfast. Tucked into the hallway is a window seat which seems to be our pet guest’s favorite spot. The narrow and steep staircase is original and adds to the quaint charm of the space.
There is a full bathroom with a tub and shower on the main floor. In the bathroom is a closet with extra towels and necessities. The 2nd floor has a half bath accessible from both bedrooms. There is an adjoining dressing area with mirror for putting on make up. The house features a large screened porch with vintage metal furniture including a dining set and the perfect napping glider. Curl up with a good book or a cocktail while enjoying the coastal breezes or watching the beautiful sunsets. This seems to be a favorite spot for all our guests who always comment on how they love looking out on the beautiful and peaceful surroundings and even how soothing the sound of a rainstorm is on the porch’s tin roof. In the garden shed you will find a Weber kettle for grilling up your catch as well as croquet, badminton, and horseshoes to bring out everyone’s competitiveness. End the evening around the fire pit roasting marshmallows and enjoying the multitude of stars overhead.

What a gorgeous home! We loved all of the charm in this old beauty. We wanted for nothing during our stay as the house had everything we needed from coffee creamer and sweetener to dog bowls and treats.
We had such a nice stay at the Blue Oyster Cottage. The house is very comfortable, and was stocked with everything we might need. The entire house was so adorable, but I especially like how they decorated the bedrooms upstairs! I felt that we had plenty of privacy, even though we were in a little neighborhood. I really enjoyed looking through the photo album about the owner's renovation process. Overall, I would definitely book again!
Beautifully decorated homeQuiet relaxing location... But so much to see and do.Attentive hosts but non intrusive.Highly recommend this rental (and try the cajun pasta at willabys on the river!)
Very lovely home in a nice and quiet area. The home is beautifully decorated and is well stocked with everything you need. The host goes above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. Location is convenient to town and a quick trip to Hughlett Point Natural Area Preserve. We visited the beach at Windmill Point which is still under construction, but seems like it will be nice when it is done. Overall, a great place to stay and enjoyed our short time there.
We stayed through the NewYear and weekend- arrived to delicious cookies! The cottage is very warm and cozy for a winter stay. We lived having the fire pit and the ability to bring our cat. The house is beautifully decorated- a work of art- and for folks who love to cook, the kitchen was set up. We’ve already nooked our next stay!!!
We have never stayed in a cleaner, more beautifully decorated home. The hosts thought of all the small details, which made this the perfect get-away. We would highly recommend these hosts and this destination!!

Thank you for your kind words, we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Come back anytime- hopefully the weather will be better.
Beautiful property! Cozy farmhouse with the most beautiful decor! Mary Lou was so kind and attentive. We will be back! Highly recommend if your staying on the NNK
The the decor was tasteful and the interior spacious. Nice quiet area. Communication was good. The oven needed to be cleaned and the carpet in the living room was stained, but those are truly minor things compared to the comfortable accommodations and special touches of this stay. There were even snacks, water, and dog treats for us upon arrival!
We loved the thoughtful details in the interior design of the house. It made it feel very homey, and we especially enjoyed spending time in the screened porch that was a refuge during a tropical storm. Access to the Rappahannock River/Chesapeake Bay is less than a quarter mile away and we enjoyed kayaking a short distance to a private beach where our dog could swim while we enjoyed the cool river.
We had a wonderful stay at this charming cottage in White Stone! The decorations were impeccable. The house was so clean, and we really enjoyed our time there. The house was equipped with everything we needed. The fenced in yard was great for our dog and the touches all around the house were so wonderful! We would love to return in the future!

Stuart, I am so sorry you did not enjoy your stay. I reached out to you via the vrbo app several times before and during your stay to ask if there was anything you needed but I never got a response from you. Lock box info was personally sent over 24 hours before your arrival so you should have received it. Grass was cut just a couple of days before you arrived so I’m not sure why you felt it needed cutting. Unfortunately we are in a coastal area and mosquitoes are sometimes evident especially after a recent rain. I do have plenty of spray provided as well as coils and Thermacell vapor repellent. I do wish you had reached out to us with your concerns, we would have been happy to do an extra quick cut of the grass as well as let you know where the repellents were as it seems you were unable to find them. We do our very best to be outstanding hosts but we can’t help if we are unaware of the issues.
Beautifully restored farmhouse -the owners had a vision that they brought to life in this wonderful cottage. Screened in porch with comfy glider and bay breezes make for a recipe of relaxation! Listening to the sound of the opening and closing screen door took me back to summers of my childhood and the art of a good nap!! This cottage is amazing, and the owners were so helpful if we needed anything!! The decor is stunning and the surrounding area with the bay and the river is beautiful! I loved the small towns nearby and all they had to offer from delicious seafood to historical sites. I would recommend this place and cottage to anyone looking to get away to a place where time is yours and stress melts away!! Thanks to the hosts for a wonderful getaway!!
We had a great time at this charming cottage: remote, quiet, beautiful nature. House was very clean, beautifully decorated and had all the essentials and more! Including sunscreen :) The screened porch was a great place to sip coffee and watch the birds at the bird feeder- and stay away from the mosquitos! Grill was available along with all the supplies. The host provided plenty of recommendations for restaurants (we tried the Dredge, Merrior and Los Compadres- all great!) , things to visit and explore. We loved Wake beach and Hughlett point natural area preserve- highly recommend taking the shore trail (pic below) . Choice of 2 Supermarkets about 15-20 min away. Ride into town is under 10 min. We ventured more often into Kilmarnock , slightly bigger town with a nice park. Host was available when we had questions and responded promptly. We also had our small dog who had the big yard to explore. If you love a nature retreat, this is a great place to enjoy time away from the crowds.
Booking this lovely renovated 100+ year old home was effortless.
Mary did a fantastic job in renovating this home, and I appreciated that she kept some of the original parts of the house to showcase the architecture.
Two things.
Mary is a very thoughtful host. She left cold water in the fridge, had all kinds of coffee makers, and having the bare essentials supplies handy because she knows that stores are few and far with varying hours of operation. We thought that was super thoughtful.
The multiple lighting options were welcoming especially the string lights that helped us find our way from the parking lot into the house.
Our stay was short but we did enjoy the beautiful and very clean home that Mary hosted. She was engaging and suggested some wonderful places to grab food.
My only surprise was that this home came up when I was searching for Deltaville, but it is about 25 minutes away by land.
Thank you Mary for being an amazing host and allowing us to stay in your beautifully renovated home.
The moment you step into this lovely cottage you have the most welcoming feeling which gave us a time to really relax. Mary Lou and Mike were amazing Hosts for our Anniversary Getaway. So much so we cannot wait to be able to find the time to return. Our Hosts were attentive and very easy to communicate with. We actually missed them once we came home.
You can tell they have put a lot of love into restoring and renovating this lovely cottage and putting some of their own personal touches within. In many ways for us like we never left our own home. Our pup Louie even felt very content and loved the spacious yard. The kitchen is very well stocked should you choose to stay in and use it which we did one of the nights. The dining room was very nice for our anniversary dinner. A couple mornings we had coffee out on the porch depending on the weather. There are also lots of restaurants in the area that Mary Lou will lead you in the direction of and also some others we found you can venture in other areas along with some great antique shops. Lots of activities within driving distance.
Nearby we saw some eagles and all types of waterfowl and ducks. This is not just a summer getaway as many may come for but whatever the season getaway as we found out. We appreciate Mary Lo and Mike opening up their Cottage to Us and our Pup Louie and look very much to coming back! High recommended!!

About the host
Hosted by Mary Lou Stufano
This was a 2 year renovation of love and lots of sweat equity. We have restored several old houses are so happy we were able to rescue this wonderful farmhouse from near demolition. After spending so much time in the area working on the Cottage we decided to buy another old farmhouse and move here full time. We live just across the Rappahannock River on Stingray Point. We are so fortunate to call this area home and love sharing it with our guests. We are happy to give recommendations or answer questions via phone or in person and of course if something does go wrong or is not to our guest’s satisfaction we are close by to address whatever the issue is. Our guests frequently mention in their comments how accommodating and respectful we are of their needs.
Why they chose this property
It seems as if you are enjoying a beautiful peaceful country retreat but you are only a few miles from the great restaurants and shops of Whitestone, Irvington, and Kilmarnock.
There is a small public beach, boat and kayak launch at the end of Windmill Point Rd. just under 2 miles away. A much needed beach renovation project was recently completed at his beach. There is a brand new fishing pier, rest rooms, plentiful free parking and lots of sandy beach with clear shallow water perfect for families. There is also a fun tiki bar and restaurant open seasonally at the adjacent marina. New this summer we will be offering our guests a small river access area just before Fleets Island about 100 yards from the cottage. There will be a small kayak and SUP launch area as well as a spot to fish or crab. Westland Beach and Fishing Pier 1.8 miles Hughlett Point Nature reserve which is a beautiful secluded area for walking the beach, nature trails, birding and swimming is just under a half hour away.
Whitestone 5 miles Irvington 7 1/2 miles Kilmarnock 10 miles Hughlett Pointe Nature Reserve 17 miles
