About this property

The Stuga - Walk to Water w/Views

Located in the Historic Hamlet of Olga, The Stuga provides a quiet, spacious retreat conveniently located within steps of the water, two beaches, and a public dock. Water views on both levels, high-end linens, fully stocked kitchen, fiber internet, all in a thoughtfully designed space. Light-filled interior spaces provide comfort & convenience, great for families, groups, or remote work. Moran State Park, Doe Bay, and Mt Constitution are a quick 5 min drive, with Eastsound only 12 min away.

A comfortable mix of modern updates with vintage character help create an inviting space for your family and friends to enjoy as a home base on Orcas. The Stuga preserves its historic charm and cabin feel as you soak in the beauty that Orcas Island has to offer. Each room has partial water views so you can watch the ferries and whales go by in the distance from anywhere in the house.

The home has 3 beds, 2 bathrooms
The primary bedroom is large and has a queen bed, and two twin beds with amazing water views.

The upstairs bedroom has a full bed with private balcony and amazing water views, sleeps two.

The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed that sleeps two.

The living room has a large couch that is also a queen size sleeper sofa with memory foam mattress. All beds have organic cotton linens and plenty of pillows.

The kitchen is fully stocked to prepare family meals with a new stove, new full size Cafe Appliance fridge/freezer, Bosch dishwasher, microwave, and farmhouse sink. Coffee can be made with the Chemex pour over or traditional coffee maker and provided coffee beans.

A 55" HDTV with Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and DVD player with DVD collection is provided for nightly entertainment along with plenty of board games, card games, and puzzles.

Water access is steps from The Stuga in two locations. Explore the tide pools, dig for clams, fish, and crab off of the dock. The dock is available in the summer months for mooring your boat.

Outside, enjoy the firepit and large front yard and deck for sunning, cleaning your catch, or exploring Olga.

Both bathrooms have been fully updated with the downstairs having a walk-in curbless shower and both bathrooms have heated tile floors.

Ask about our guest house (The Little Stuga) if you have over 7 adults.

Modern Updates:
Fiber Internet
Air Conditioning and Heating
Updated Bathrooms with Heated Bathroom Floors
Updated Kitchen with dishwasher
Full size washer and dryer
New hardwoods on 2nd floor and stairs.

Other Things to Note
The house is older and has some quirks, like sloped floors in the kitchen and upstairs bedroom. These are minor and won’t detract from your visit, but wanted to make you aware.

Our home can accommodate 9 guests, however if booking for 7+ adults, you will need to also book The Little Stuga in order to accommodate (guest house). Our home is best suited for no more than 7 adults and 2 children.

Pets - We may allow pets on a case by case basis, please message us to see if we can accommodate.

If an unauthorized event occurs, a $500 fee will be charged. No parties or events are allowed.

The propane fireplaces are not operational.

Parking is located in front of the house and is uncovered, we can accommodate 3-4 vehicles and ask that everyone park alongside the rock wall to avoid blocking the road.

We use a self check in door code so no need to use keys.

Mooring is available during the summer months on the public dock in Olga. We are located steps from the dock.

Stuga is Swedish for cottage and refers to the many summer cabins that dot Sweden's coastlines, forests and islands and serve as a holiday escape, often hosting their families for celebrations throughout the year.

The word Stuga also conjures up lots of evocative feelings for Swedes. These are typically places of peace, comfort, and mysig-ness or coziness, much closer to nature than the city.

We hope our Stuga provides the comfort and peacefulness you seek on Orcas Island and in our small hamlet of Olga.

Due to the time needed to adequately clean the property, we are not able to offer early check-in or late check-out. Please book an extra night if you would like to guarantee an early check- in or a late check- out.

Ask about our guest house (Little Stuga) if you have over 7 adults.

Very quiet, peaceful and comfortable. Olga is charming--the store has really good soft serve ice cream. We saw an otter from the dock, and enjoyed eating at Buck Bay oyster farm across the bay (highly recommend). Really nice for a family getaway. The house itself was well stocked and the beds were very comfortable.

Our family traveled to Orcas Island as part of a family tradition to spend time together in nature during Thanksgiving. The host welcomed us warmly and checked in to ensure we had everything we needed and were settling in comfortably. We were greeted with a sweet handwritten note and a warm and comfortable home with special high end details in each room. There were lovely books and plenty of space to lounge and relax after taking a hike in nearby Moran State park which was utterly amazing. We had everything we needed to cook a fantastic Thanksgiving meal. The views were breathtaking and a short walk to the waterfront was lovely. This is truly a beautiful region with so much to do nearby in both nature and commerce - short drive to the East sound shops boasting delicious local fare and artisanal hand made goods. If you are considering a visit to Orcas Island this house and kind host are 10/10 recommended!

Cute and unique cottage

Excellent views of the sound, right up the road from the Olga docks so very convenient for us. House even had all the crab cooking needs!! Yum! Updated bathrooms made a big difference, but the towels are very small and we wished we had more. Overall the house was lovely for my family and we enjoyed our stay! Thanks Erin for hosting :-)

Restorative Woman’s Retreat

7 women in both The Stuga and Little Stuga. Room for everyone. Beds for everyone. Kitchen equipped beautifully. Easy 2 minute walk to water. Owners were super responsive when we had a minor concern. Perfect base for exploring all and sundry on Orcas.

Additional Items to Know About The Stuga Before Reserving It

The interior of the house was as described and the beds were comfortable. We were not notified until the welcome email with our access code to the house on 9/20 (our check in was 9/23) that "cell service can be a bit spotty and that Verizon and Sprint will have limited cell service". We could not make a call from the house with our cell phones (not even through the WiFi). As long as the WiFi was working, you could text. The lack of cell service should be noted on the main description of the rental. We had a medical emergency and it was very difficult communicating with family members. We were also notified on 9/20 that the hosts had just been notified by the power company that the power would be off for two nights of our stay. While we were on the island, I found out that the power outage was planned for the entire island and they had been notifying everyone starting in mid-August. If I had been informed of the planned power outage, we wouldn't have stayed on Orcas Island for our vacation. I am still working with VRBO and the hosts for at least half of my payment to be refunded as we should have been informed of the power outage and/or the house shouldn't have been available to rent during the power outage. Again, during the power outage there was no way to communicate as the WiFi was down as well then. The house does not have Cable/Satellite TV, but you can login to Hulu or other streaming services if you have an account.

Guest was not familiar with the listing nor how to connect to WiFi to make calls, text or email host with questions. Guest was also not familiar with limited resources of the island (spotty service throughout, no hospital on island). This guest had plenty of opportunity to reach out with questions or request assistance, but failed to do so. It's unfortunate that their lack of communication left them in a difficult situation, and because we didn't refund their trip 100%, they left a 1 star review.
