Geodesic Dome-Home #4 sleeps six and features a massive, handcrafted king-size barnwood bed that is positioned to provide incredible views of the surrounding pristine forest. A dividing wall separates the bedroom spaces. On the backside of the wall is a handcrafted timber frame queen-over-queen bunk bed strong enough to hold four adults. PET POLICY
We are dog lovers. We have two of our own. We did realize at the end of last year that we must put a pet policy in place. A guest last year left their dog all day in the dome, and it barked the entire time they were gone disrupting the experience of other guests. This was a dog with a deep, loud bark. The dog barked for eight hours straight which was impressive as you would think it would lose its voice after a few hours. Everyone’s nerves were fried by the time the people returned.
We recently had a guest that asked if they could bring their dog. Even after reading this policy, they let their dog bark for almost an hour. It was not continuous, but it was 5 to 10 seconds of stressed-out, loud barking, and then silence. Every 5-10 minutes there was a barking outburst. I think they tied it up outside, and it wanted to come in the side. The dog was trying to get their attention. I really did not want to have to walk down there and have a talk with them as we are trying for everyone to have a nice experience. I was very close to walking to their site, and then it stopped for the evening. The problem is the other five domes in the area. This had to disrupt their barbecues, campfires, and evening.
Everyone knows their dogs. Our two dogs would not bark if we left them somewhere unless they were startled. This is understandable and acceptable. If you have a dog that will bark from separation anxiety, we ask that he/she not be left alone (or outside alone while the family is indoors). If you feel, the dog would only bark if startled, then we are fine with a dog. If you are going to leave for a few hours, we ask that it be kenneled and left in the kitchen/bath structure – NOT left in the dome. The kitchen/bath structure has more insulation, and the occasional bark will not travel through the entire property.
The other requirement we have for pets is that they are not allowed on the beds. We have already had to replace two comforters this year because we were not able to get the dog hair out. Please try and bring a dog bed. If you cannot, we leave an extra sheet in the dresser drawer. This is specifically for your dog. You can lay this on the floor in an area and your pet is welcome to sleep on this. Dog hair on the comforter is subject to a $100 replacement fee.
If you agree to these pet policies, you are welcome to bring your dog.
We are located on 75 acres and surrounded by thousands of acres of state forestry with trails. You can walk for miles and miles. This is the perfect property to take your dog for a nice long walk. If he or she will run after a deer, fox, raccoon, or porcupine, then we strongly suggest a lease as you are sure to see wildlife.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

We had a wonderful time staying at this property. Accomodations were accurate to the listing and made you feel right at home!
Will definitely be coming back.
Great stay and very cute! Nice to be a little outside of the city, but close enough to go into town for dinners or activities. Rob was very responsive and professional! We look forward to going back!
We absolutely loved our stay in the dome! Everything was beautifully put together and cozy. We loved that we were in a private wooded area but could reach a grocery store quickly when we needed too. We are already planning for our next vacation here!
Stayed 2 nights at this great property. Google took us to the wrong location but the directions from the property owners got us to where we needed to be. The place is well designed and in great location.
The whole stay was incredibly relaxing. Close enough to all the things you’d want to do in Northern Michigan yet secluded enough from the crowds to feel like a true getaway. The kitchen/bath house was beautifully done with thoughtful details. The perfect balance of “camping” and modern comforts.
We stayed here with our kids (ages 4-17) and dog. It was the perfect place for everyone and we had everything we needed. The host was super receptive and responded quickly. We ended up adding a night to our reservation because we were having such a great time!
We stayed at this property for a week while we were at the Traverse City Horse show which was only 5 minutes away. The place was clean and stocked with everything you could want and more . We enjoyed a beautiful camp fire every evening and had new fire wood brought to us each day. I highly recommend staying here !
Communication with the host was easy and always replied on a timely manner. My girls and I had the best time at our dome, everything we needed. The beds were sooo comfy too. I plan to be back with my fiance just him and I for a weekend away.
What a great and unique stay! We were on a family road trip with our family of 6 and the Geodesic dome camping was awesome! This kids had an awesome time and really loved this one of kind Glamp site. The hosts have thought of everything and we loved the fire pit and outdoor bathtub. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty extra blankets. We made a day trip to sleeping bear dunes - which was an easy drive from the resort. Would highly recommend and will be back!
We had a great time in the dome! We were looking for something different and found this neat place tucked in the woods. The kids (ages 7 to 19) loved the firepit, hammock, woods and local beaches. The owner recommended Elk Rapids sandbar beach and it was perfect. Kids swam and played volleyball and floatsd down the creek. Dinners at out door patios in Traverse City and Elk Rapids. Grilled on site one night. Coffees on the deck in the morning, deer peeking at us from the woods. Would recommend! Plan on returning for a future vaca.
If you've never stayed in the Geo-Dome-Home, here's your chance to experience a new adventure! Included in your stay at Silver Birch Resort are all the amenities of home, and more! Wrapped up in your geodesic dome is a cozy and comfortable bedroom overlooking the woods and a separate personal kitchen/bath dwelling that is all yours. There is a fire pit in each unit for you to use, and even an outdoor bathtub to climb into for relaxation that goes above and beyond!
The grounds have oodles of hiking paths, great for photo ops and lots of exploring. My husband and I were able to take our golden retriever with us, and he loved the adventure as well.
We also spent a day in Elk Rapids and checked out this great gem! It is a very quaint town and only 10 miles away.
We will be recommending this VRBO to our family, friends and neighbors so they can experience it for themselves!
Be sure you plan this peaceful and unique adventure for yourself!
What a cool experience we had staying at the dome home! The site was prepped for our stay with daily firewood, easy check in, clear directions to the unit, and all the necessary info. to make it a smooth start. The dome was so fun to stay in with its clear shot view from the bed to the woods! There were plenty of bedding options, bountiful linens, kitchen supplies, and barbecue grill accessories. The place is brand new, so nothing was lacking. The deck adjoining the kitchenette/bath was well built, an outdoor tub with privacy fence was available but we didn’t use it, the fire pit has 4 chairs, there’s a hammock for napping, an outdoor table for coffee, and indoor dining for 4. Both nights were cool so we didn’t need the a/c that much, but it worked great when we did. We really enjoyed everything about the rental and will definitely book again. Rob is a great host that responds immediately, which is very refreshing and professional. We have nothing negative to say about our entire experience. Would highly recommend the dome home!
