As with most roads, not just mountain roads, when snow/ice is present 4x4 is necessary.
For a good stretch of the road, it is a one-way road. There are pit(pullover) areas at certain spots on both sides of the road where someone coming in and or going out can access to allow others to pass. The road is quiet and void of a lot of coming and going, but you may at one time encounter someone leaving as your arriving and vice versa. It's not at all complicated, but something to note as you plan for your arrival.

The cabin was excellent! Very secluded and quiet, with easy enough access to restaurants and trails. My family and I greatly enjoyed our stay! Everything was very clean and in working order.
My wife and I enjoyed our anniversary weekend getaway at this cabin! Nice and private while not being too far from Highlands and some good hikes and restaurants. There was some issue getting the initial check-in information from Vrbo, but once I directly contacted the host he was very helpful and responsive to our questions. We would book again!
This cozy cabin is a bit off the grid, but we all enjoyed our stay immensely!! Comfortably sleeps 8 (my boys loved “The Shack”) with a pull-out couch as an extra. Spacious master bathroom with large soaking tub. Everyone loved the hot tub and the huge front porch was a great place for morning coffee or an evening read in the hammock. Kitchen is small, but has everything ended for a week away. Host was attentive and easy to reach. Thank you for a great vacation!!❤️
Cute cabin tucked away on the side of a mountain. The drive is easy, even on the gravel road. There was plenty of room for the 2 of us. The kitchen was small but big enough for us. There is limited seating if more than 3 people want to watch tv in the living room. We loved the wood burning stove and screened in porches. The hot tub was very nice in the chilly weather. Donnie was very helpful and very responsive. Note: you will not have internet once you start up the mountain. Make sure you have copies of all pertinent information before you lose service. The cabin does have WiFi though. We enjoyed our stay!
The drive to the cabin was gorgeous, and it is a very remote area if coming from the Atlanta area. However, a really convenient drive into Highlands, North Carolina and tons of waterfalls and trails. The cabin itself was clean and cozy, and the two screened porches were its best features, including the hot tub on the back porch. The view was incredible. Dense woods, ferns, moss, wildlife; such a magical location. The kitchen was small and sparse, no oven mitts, not quite enough dishes for the amount of people staying, and the last guests didn’t really do a superb job of cleaning said dishes. The little bunkhouse apartment was a really neat feature, and fun for our teen girls to stay in across the driveway from the main cabin. It doesn’t have a bathroom, so that’s something to keep in mind. Overall, a few essentials were missing, but we really enjoyed our stay, and would definitely book this cabin again.
