Just 20 minutes from Colorado Springs and 1 mile from the Pikes Peak entrance, this creekside log cabin is your mountain escape, whether you're here for the city or hiding from it.
Fountain Creek runs year-round and is just steps away from your front door. Even in winter the water keeps moving, and when the snow falls the creek swells just a little. Fall asleep to rushing water and wake to snow-dusted pines and sunrise over Waldo Canyon. Deer and other wildlife are regular visitors to the property.
The cabin is anchored by a wood-burning stone fireplace, the real thing, not a gas switch. Pick up firewood at any gas station or grocery store, cheapest at Walmart in Woodland Park (6 miles). Two bedrooms sleep up to five: one queen, two twins, plus a pullout couch. One full bath.
Strong WiFi, smart TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime and HBO Max, and an Alexa music system. There is a landline for emergencies since cell service is limited, but WiFi calling works well.
Winter in the Pikes Peak region does not shut down, it shifts. Garden of the Gods is free, open year-round, and stunning in the snow. The Manitou Incline, Manitou Springs, and the Pikes Peak toll road are all close. Colorado Springs is 20 minutes down the hill and sits 1,000 feet lower in elevation, a full city with Division I hockey (CC Tigers at Ed Robson Arena), concerts, the Nutcracker, great restaurants, and everything else. Snowshoeing and XC skiing are available in Pike National Forest nearby. Breckenridge is 82 miles in case a powder day comes calling.
Fast, reliable WiFi and total quiet also make this a strong remote work base.
Guest Access: Full access to the 2-acre property including creekside access and mountain views of Waldo Canyon and the Pikes Peak foothills. Dead-end road, no through traffic, neighbors 600-800 yards away.
The road is unpaved and can be bumpy, but any standard sedan, SUV, truck or van handles it fine year-round. Low-clearance vehicles and sports cars are not a good fit for this property. In winter, front wheel drive, AWD or 4WD is recommended when there is new snow on the ground. The road is plowed after 3 inches of snowfall; between storms, snow typically melts within 2-4 days.
There is a second property on the same 2 acres, occasionally occupied by other guests. If it happens to be available during your stay, we manage both and offer a discount when renting together for larger parties: VRBO 3386638

About the host
Hosted by Marc Hoffmann
I'm a solo traveler and a full time real estate investor. Growing up on a small Minnesota farm north of St. Paul in Scandia, MN I learned early on the lessons of the farm: patience, hard work and empathy. No kids, no wife, but I do have 2 black labs who keep me company.
I love to fish and hunt and hike and mountain bike and snowboard and cross country ski and be outside every second, winter or summer. My goal is to drive across South America next winter on my ADV motorcycle. Each September I'm in Colorado bow hunting elk, then back to MN for bird season and back to CO in December for snowboarding season. Once the snow melts in spring and summer I'm on the water fishing back in MN.
I'm easy going and flexible. After college I hitchhiked through Europe visiting 14 countries, sleeping in strangers homes and learning about myself. I've had the pleasure of visiting 29 countries so far and I love meeting new people and experiencing new cultures.
These two properties on Picabo Lane are my Colorado home base, and I take pride in sharing them with guests who love the mountains as much as I do. The thing I love the most? Having a positive impact on your family and friends vacations. Have fun, safe travels, and welcome to my home!
