Great property with easy access for hiking. Great cooking space. The one bedroom off the living room is smaller but still quite a good space. The master is huge and quiet.
This property was authentic and charming Vermont during the peak of Fall. It was exactly what we wanted for a country getaway. We especially loved the front porch views and using the record player with a nostalgic collection of albums. Very spacious. David was so hospitable!
I loved staying at the VRBO apartment at the foot of Mt. Philo. The place is attractive, spacious, and with a breathtaking view of Mt. Philo and Lake Champlain. It was very comfortable for the three of us who stayed—each in a separate room. We very much appreciated the welcoming breakfast fixings and the well appointed kitchen—both of which enabled us to have hearty breakfasts before heading out for the day. The best part was the fabulous location at the foot of Mt. Philo with easy access to hiking trails up the mountain.
The inn was just as I expected- like arriving at your own family camp. Wonderful open kitchen with up to date amenities. The view was gorgeous and I truly enjoyed curling up on the day bed in from of the window and reading. The welcome food basket of vermont items was perfect after a long drive. Highly recommend for those looking for beautiful time away.
Great Location. Easy Check In. Quiet - you will sleep well!
We had a fabulous week at the Mt Philo Inn. There is ample space to be together but also to spread out for quiet reading or naps! The building is so unique. It is an easy drive to so many things. We visited Shelburne Museum, the Ethan Allen Homestead, the John Strong house and Chimney Point. Spent a day at the lake. Be sure to treat yourselves to breakfast at the Dutch Mill!
We had everything we needed at Dave's place. I was able to utilize a well stocked kitchen to make some homemade meals for my son who just started at UVM. Warm, cozy and clean. We loved the direct access to the Mt Philo trails as well :)
This house was very spacious for 6 people and it is well kept. It has many amenities allowing for a comfortable stay. The location is right next to Mt. Philip state park, making it a great place to stay if your enjoy hiking and want to visit the park. The owner is always available and ensures you have a good stay. Overall, we had a great time and would love to come back!
We really enjoyed this beautiful property with a stunning view of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks. Great, full service kitchen. Plenty of room and privacy for each of us with the bed/bath arrangement. Close to Mt. Philo State Park for hiking and further views.

About the host
Hosted by David Garbose
In 1990, Innkeeper David Garbose and his partner, Jane bought the neglected Charlotte landmark, the Mt Philo Inn. We rescue things,” says Jane Garbose, co-owner with her partner, David Garbose, of the Mt. Philo Inn. “Border collies, furniture …” There’s actually an exhaustive list of things that she and David have rescued, including the inn itself — which isn’t an “inn” now, in the customary sense, so much as an assemblage of four spacious, impressively appointed suites that, except for shared walls and connecting foyers, are independent of one another. “We don’t serve breakfast,” she says, by way of illustration. “We provide a complimentary breakfast basket of wonderful local products — free-range organic eggs, Vermont Coffee Co. coffee, Smoke & Cure bacon, Vermont maple syrup, Dakin Farm’s buttermilk pancake mix. Each suite has a kitchen, and people can make their own breakfasts if they want.” But her point about rescuing things, besides Izze, the inn’s sociable border collie, is well taken. Standing in the so-called West Wing Suite of their 120-year-old building at the foot of Mt. Philo, she and David are surrounded by beautiful, restored objects with histories predating their arrival at the inn. Desks, lamps, stoves (both the heating and the cooking variety), beds, sofas — all were found on Craigslist, or at yard sales, or through the Burlington nonprofit recycling cum work-training service ReSource. Amazingly, there’s not a trace of hodgepodge in the inn’s décor. “Jane is a fantastic designer, without a bit of pretense in her taste, so there’s a comfortableness to the place that’s really noticeable,” says Dave. “We stop and consider each purchase. Nothing is haphazard.” Jane finds a connection in her practice calling at the Mt. Philo Inn. “There’s something intuitive about working with internal spaces — in people and in this building we have,” she says. Dave and Izze climb Mt. Philo every day
