Mornings can be slow and simple. You can have coffee under a blanket on the patio, and watch as the light comes over the mountain across the way. Then come back and settle in.
Evenings are where the house really shines. Cook in a fully equipped kitchen that feels like your own, fire up the grill, or simply open a bottle of wine and relax. Play games, sit outside by the fire, and watch the sky fill with stars. It’s quiet in a way that’s hard to find, but easy to settle into.

Loved, loved, loved the house and location! Was excellent for us. Also loved the small touches such as ‘s’mores and retreats they left for us. Beds were super comfy and we felt refreshed in the mornings.
The kitchen is one of the best equipped in all our weekends stays and the house is cozy and tucked into the surroundings. Exactly as described, no surprises-and everything you could need was accessible, i.e. extra boxes of tissue (just like being at home-not locked away). Our fur baby enjoyed trotting up and down the hallway and sniffing all the things outside.
The house was in a beautiful setting and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. It was so quiet and peaceful, while still near enough to hiking and restaurants.
We enjoyed a quiet weekend here to celebrate our anniversary and loved the layout of this space. The kitchen was well-equipped and the living areas are clean and modern. Our favorite area was the outdoor fireplace and patio with mountain views. In addition, the hosting was top-notch! Clear check in/out instructions, easy to reach, and they curated every detail!
This property is amazing! It is new with all the necessary amenities. It rained for a good portion of our stay and it was still fantastic. Very peaceful setting with a beautiful view. The kitchen is great for cooking any kind of meal and the living area is very comfortable. This place is located right near the base of the Shenandoah National Park, so great for getting outdoors. We also took walks right from the house. It was peaceful and beautiful.
Peaceful Mountain Retreat – Perfect for a Relaxing Getaway
Our family had a wonderful stay at this beautiful mountain home. The space was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed with modern decor that still felt very homey and inviting. The kitchen was spacious and well-stocked, making it easy to prepare meals together throughout our stay. We also appreciated the cozy beds, spacious bathroom, and the added convenience of in-unit laundry. The outdoor areas were perfect for relaxing, with plenty of spots to sit and enjoy the peaceful mountain views. The location was ideal, with nearby hiking trails and wineries. After a day of hiking and visiting a local winery, it was such a treat to return to this beautiful, comfortable space and unwind. The host was very responsive and provided clear check-in instructions and helpful directions, making our arrival seamless. We highly recommend this home for anyone looking for a serene and comfortable retreat in a stunning mountain setting!
4 Trees is all around awesome! It’s a thoughtfully designed, spaciously cozy and welcoming sanctuary for a weekend (or longer) away. We loved the thoughtful touches - coffee station, skylight in the bathroom, clover between the flagstones. We slept with the windows open to enjoy the delightful chill in the air and woke to beautiful misty mountain mornings. There’s a dream kitchen to cook & eat in, plus outdoor seating & a firepit. Lucky us to experience the overall serenity this home provided us with. The hosts have a modern marvel of a house to share with VRBOers - what a total treat from checkin to checkout. We didn’t want to leave and neither did our fur baby! We will be back!
While only 1 1/2 hours from our home, we felt like we were far away from our home and busy lives. It was such a restful weekend of sitting around the fire, playing board games, taking walks/hikes, and visiting a brewery. We were three generations: my mom (in her late 70s), my husband and I, and three kids (7, 9, and 11 years old). The places was perfect for everyone -- accessible and comfortable. The kids played outside in the grass and trees for hours. We also went on walks and hikes right from the front door, but we were also very close to National Park hikes. The host also made cooking delicious dinners and breakfasts easy -- they had olive oil, spices, and condiments plus every kind of pot, pan, and utensils that you would need. The house was spotless and the host was very attentive. We highly recommend this home and plan to return at least once a year.
Unparalleled Stay - Like Living in ArtUnlike any VRBO I’ve ever stayed in, Frank Lloyd Wright-esque, where architecture seamlessly blends with outdoors. Every inch was both functional and beautiful. Cooking here felt like being in my own kitchen: Henckels, All-Clad, all critical cooking gadgets and instinctively knew where to find everything.I had major FOMO. Wanted to call the owner just to ask who the architect was! I snapped countless photos of the furniture for inspiration in my own home. Who shares such a gem with others? Forever grateful.During our short stay, we hiked White Oak Canyon and took a 3-hour kayak trip down Shenandoah with Downriver Canoe Company. They made it so simple: dropped us 7 miles upriver, and we could paddle at our own pace back to our car - no tour group, no rush. We ate at Rappahannock Pizza Kitchen and especially loved the bar’s great vibe. One night, before dinner, we enjoyed craft beer and played chess at the Brewery at Hopkins Ordinary. We played board games, grilled dinner, and stargazed at night. I had forgotten the sky could even look like that. I even sat down and read a book during the day, which never happens! The perfect weekend escape.
My husband and I just returned from a 3-night stay and feel incredibly lucky that we found this home. The house is absolutely stunning and the view is to die for. Everything you could ever want or need is available. There are blankets for sitting outside in the cold, head lamps if you're hiking or walking the property in the dark, a well-stocked kitchen and pantry, gas grill and more. Chris even left us everything to make s'mores under the stars. He really thought of everything. We were celebrating our anniversary and found a bottle of sparkling in the fridge for us - extremely thoughtful.
I really appreciated Chris's responsiveness before and during our trip. While we were there, we checked out some of the local wineries and breweries — all a short drive from the house. We also hiked Old Rag, which was about 20 minutes away. We spent a lot of time in the house relaxing, grilling and looking at the beautiful scenery. Someone else mentioned in their review that it's a slice of heaven and I can't agree more.
I've already told everyone I know about this place. We can't wait to visit again!
This stay was a slice of heaven in the mountains. As you’re driving through the back roads leading to the property you can feel yourself leaving any stress or worries behind. I was greeted with a lovely welcoming basket with ALL kinds of goodies to kick off the weekend stay. This alone made the stay unique and special.
The property is surrounded by woods which gives you an ultimate sense of privacy. In my opinion the best part of the property was the front patio that has beautiful mountain stone laid as the foundation. Here, you can sit quietly with your morning tea or coffee as you watch the morning fog eb through the mountain valley. Eventually you’ll see the light fog clear and the beautiful blue sky begin to show off. There is an outdoor stove fireplace on the front patio too where you can enjoy an evening fire. Keep your eyes peeled as you’ll most definitely see deer, birds of all kinds, and other creatures in their natural habitat. Keep your ears peeled as well, because you will be serenaded with the calming sound of crickets and birds as the sun sinks over the mountain.
The interior of the property is absolutely stunning, spacious, very clean, and orderly. The property has a modern structure with rustic décor for a cozy and welcoming feel. This property makes you feel like you’re living luxury but also connected to the outdoors. The kitchen and really the entire house is equipped with anything you could possibly need. We will be back to explore more the area soon!

About the host
Hosted by Chris Charbonneau
We're Chris and Kate and we are excited to share our retreat with you. We have always wanted to live a 'surf-n-terf' lifestyle by splitting our time near the Chesapeake Bay and the mountains of Virginia. We found this property in 2020 and built our home as a way to escape the hustle and bustle, but also stay connected. When we are here we spend our time trying to make the property a haven for wildlife. But we also enjoy hiking the many trails nearby, or just relaxing on the patio with a glass of wine, or going to one of the local breweries for more amazing views, music, food and beverages. We love hearing from our guests that they see this special place as a slice of heaven just like we do.
Why they chose this property
Our house sits on a hill overlooking Mitchell’s mountain to the east, leading to a leisurely morning sunrise. The gravel road is perfect for a morning coffee walk, or run. Say hi to the cows when they're out on pasture.
What makes this property unique
Our home was built to capture the views and the light while also being extremely energy efficient. This allows us to open up windows and take in that mountain air for most of the year, but also easily close up the house and be wrapped in comfort when outside temperatures are too hot or too cold.
