A bit of paradise on earth

The coastal views are spectacular from the elevated lanai and the tropical gardens gorgeous. Home has most everything necessary for a great stay.

Home away from Home

Beautiful view and surroundings. Had everything we needed for our stay. Plenty of room for our family. Will need a car if wanting to see other areas of the island. Would highly recommend.

Paradise Found

Amazing place to stay on the Big Island, set in a veritable Garden of Eden. Beautifully decorated, furnished, and hosted, the house is quiet, with beautiful ocean views and spectacular sunsets. We were lulled to sleep every night by Island breezes and the chirping of tree frogs. We loved every second of our stay and we would love to stay there again. Great location too.

Amazing views ! The house was perfect for our vacation, two couples 10 days.

The property was very well manicured and maintained, like our own private little hide away with all the trees and plants. It had everything anyone could ask for, well stocked kitchen with pots, pans, plates etc ! A grill for outdoor cooking, beach towels, snorkel gear, boogie boards, coolers etc !!!! Loved every minute of staying here. Would definitely recommend.

Perfect for our family...

We had a lovely and enjoyable stay here!! The view from the deck was lovely..we enjoyed our breakfasts and dinners here. Loved watching the sunset. Loved that there were beach chairs, coolers,umbrella and snorkeling gear provided. We enjoyed being in a quiet neighborhood . We will definitely recommend this house to our friends. And hope to return soon. Thanks again!!

Amazing views, beautiful house!!

My family and I recently enjoyed an amazing 5 day vacation in this beautiful house. The house is spacious and stocked with almost everything that you might need. It is apparent that the owners thought of the samllest details to enusre their guests' comfort. Michele had even provided a list of groceries that we might need when we arrived at the house, along with information about where to shop, where to eat and local attractions. Our favorite spot in the house was, of course, the lanai. We enjoyed some beautiful sunrise and sunsets there. The location is very convenient - not too far from any of the main attractions such as Kailua Kona, Volcano National Park, all the different beaches. We loved driving through the beautiful countryside and exploring some of the coffee plantations, restaurants, fruit stands, curio shops along the way. Thank you for one of the best vacations we have had in a long time!

Perfect setting for our family holiday getaway!

Our family of 5 (2 adults, 2 teens, 1 grade school-aged child) thoroughly enjoyed our stay over the Christmas holidays. There was plenty of space for us to spread out, relax and enjoy both family time together and individual time alone. The covered lanai were a wonderful place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee, gaze at the ocean, eat meals and enjoy family game time. The grounds were filled with interesting lava formations, wildlife and beautiful flowers that kept the kids entertained with exploring and photographing. Little extra touches such as the binoculars for getting a closer look at wildlife and the kitchens stocked with Kona coffee were much appreciated. The homeowner was very responsive to questions encountered during our stay. The home is a very close drive (or a somewhat challenging walk) to the small but gorgeous Pebbles Beach and a slightly longer drive from several other beaches. It is a bit farther from town (Kailua-Kona) and most local attractions than anticipated - plan on a solid 30-45 minute drive to get to shops, restaurants and activity pickups - but once we got into the habit of factoring this into our day, we appreciated the quiet retreat from the more touristy areas. Laundry facilities and beach gear were added bonuses. Would highly recommend and would consider staying again if visiting the Big Island in the future.

Fabulous 50th with Stunning Views

We came to celebrate my 50th birthday in style & stayed for 10 nights. Overall the house is very nice, with beautiful surrounding gardens and views that go on forever. Sitting on the porch with either coffee or cocktail were exceptional. Michele & Ron were quick to communicate as well. Some minor things we felt could have been better but in no way diminished the trip (Just suggestions). 1. Visitors should understand the beach is quite a ways down the VERY steep hill side. 2. Consideration of length of stay should be given to having enough trash bags for guests. The 2 or 3 trash bags we had were not enough for 4 adults staying for 10 nights. This also applied to toilet paper. Told to buy more after the initial rolls ran out was frustrating because it turns out there were new packages already in the house. 3. With the trash bag issue also came the inconvenience of needing to bring your trash to the disposal center which was only open 3 specific days during specific hours. Although this itself did not bother us, having no outside garbage can to keep trash in until we could bring it there was problematic because of critters gaining access to it. 4. Having a screen door on the front door would be fantastic! The cross breeze that entered every time we opened it was awesome however we did not leave it open because we did not want extra "guests" in someone else's home. Overall, the house is comfortable and a great place to stay.

Beautiful property

I stayed here with my husband and our 3 kids (ages 20 months to 7), and we had a great time. The property is absolutely gorgeous. There are so many beautiful flowers and interesting plants. The house was well stocked and comfortable. The hosts were friendly and welcoming. You may notice in the listing there is no air conditioning. We truly did not need it, and the place was a comfortable temperature throughout our whole stay. Some things to be aware of (and these are not complaints by any means. Just things to know before you come): The place is not close to very much. Make sure you stop at a store on your way to the place because there are not stores very close by. You’ll need to plan to drive to pretty much everything you want to do. Pebble Beach is close by, and we caught a lovely sunset there. If you have a toddler or small kid you’ll need to plan to watch them well on the balcony just because it’s high up. We had no problems of any kind and the home is safe. There are some beautiful decorations that you may want to move out of reach of little hands while you are there. We had a great stay and overall recommend this as a great option for your vacation.

Our Vacation Review

Our family of 6 visited Hawaii from April 18 to May2, 2015 and we had the pleasure of spending it at Kona Leilani vacation home. We so enjoyed the house and spent much of our time on the lanai from morning coffee to the evening meal (with sightseeing in between) and the sunset every night.  What an amazing view! The pictures on the website are great and when we arrived we couldn’t believe how beautiful it really was. It was spacious levels and so well equipped. The two stories worked out perfectly. We lacked nothing from any aspect. Everything we needed was there and more. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our dinner each night and we did eat at home every evening. Loved the resident turkeys who nested in the tree beside the lanai. It was great fun to watch them each night when they would go to bed up in the tree. There were so many different birds that spent time around the house and we really enjoyed waking up and hearing them singing. What a treat! We made the most of our time on the Big Island and had a fabulous time. We snorkelled and enjoyed the waves at the Pebble Beach at the bottom of the road from the house.  We hiked along the Kings trail there too - so great to have that so close.  We visited Volcano National Park and we did a lot of snorkelling on various bays.  What a great experience!!   Larry and Emmy are just the best!  Such nice people. Michele, you are Wonderful to work with. You are gracious, thoughtful and Patient and we truly appreciate it. Can’t say enough good things.   Our whole vacation was just wonderful and your home was the perfect place to return to every evening.  It felt warm and inviting and we decided that if we ever get the opportunity to return we will definitely stay there again. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful Hawaii home with us.

Wir waren von allem begeistert: dem Haus, dem Garten, dem Strand und allem drum und dran.Für einen tollen Strandtag ist alles vorhanden, Schnorchel, Flossen, Taucherbrillen, Stühle, Schirm und Kühltaschen. We had a wonderful time here. The house served as a great base camp for day trips to the Kaiula-Kona area, Punalu'u Black Sand Beach,Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and other local sites.The sweeping Pacific view from the Lanai is stunning, with gorgeous sunsets.The house had everything we needed and was very clean and cozy. Michele was a great host and even gave us a loaf of delicious ube sweetbread. The garden and the nighttime chirping of coqui frogs were very relaxing.If you are planning a trip to the west side of the Big Island and want a peaceful place to unwind after your adventures, this is the place to go. (And make sure to stop at the Panalu'u bake shop for a malassada or two ...or three).

A Kona Paradise with Stunning Views and Vibrant Nature

We had an amazing stay at this wonderful Kona Paradise in Hawaii. From the moment we arrived, we felt completely welcomed and at home. The house itself was cozy and well-designed, offering the perfect space to relax. The kitchen was a standout—extremely well-equipped with everything I needed to cook and feel right at home. The yard was a tropical paradise, filled with a beautiful array of plants, which really added to the overall charm of the place. We especially loved how serene it was, and at night, the sounds of the birds singing created a peaceful atmosphere. It was truly a slice of paradise! Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing, nature-filled getaway.

A total "nightmare"!

The interior of the property is infested with geckos due to a complete lack of maintenance. The walls, the moldings, the ceiling beams, the furniture and floors, even the towels, are covered with excrement. So dire was the situation that when watching television or eating at the table the geckos were dropping their excrement on us. Read the review dated December 10, 2024 from another guest; the property was just as bad at that time and the owners did nothing to improve it before our arrival. According to the owner this is “normal” in a natural environment which their neighbors say is untrue. There are many other issues: the refrigerator leaks water, the oven and the interiors of the kitchen cabinets are filthy, the washer and dryer are rusted as both are located outside under the building….the list goes on and on. The pictures do not reflect the reality at all. The situation was terrible, not livable, so we had to leave after 4 nights (with the owner’s approval) of our 17 night stay. We had to move from hotel to hotel and the owners refused to let us keep our food in the refrigerator until we located a more permanent rental. Though we eventually were able to negotiate a partial credit for our stay, this credit represented only a minor portion of our total costs incurred. In addition, this experience ruined our vacation. Stay away from this property!

Incredible location and views!

We really enjoyed our stay in Captain Cook. The gardens and views from the deck were absolutely amazing. Felt right at home. Loved hearing the birds chirping and walking thru your gardens. Communication with owner was very good. Beds were comfortable and home had all the supplies we needed. Our family hiked the pebble beach trail nearby and the views were just amazing. Important to drive down though to pebble beach and not attempt to walk as the hike back up the hill is challenging. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and artwork with our family!

Excellent house on a slope

Great house! Excellent ocean view in a secluded area of South Kona. House is old but clean. Has everything we need for our family to cook, relax, snorkel. Very steep slope to walk back to the house from the beach below so make sure you drive.Host is amazing and always checking in to make sure we have everything we need.Location is a bit remote, grocery store is 20 minutes by car.But in general we enjoy our stay.

Supportive owners

Owners were incredibly responsive and helpful. Good directions to find property and lots of signs in house with instructions. Nice house, as described. Wonderful views from deck, though have your bug spray handy. Research the location as it is a drive to anywhere and if comfortable with that it is a good place to be. Local beach (black lava shingle - shoes required) is close but drive to it unless you are into hill climbing. An abundance of geckos around property; fun but occasionally messy. No BBQ. Trash/recycling a couple of miles away and easy to navigate.

First, the good: Beautiful views, and we were there in late fall so the fact that there was no AC (as originally listed) wasn't as big an issue. There were a variety of dive fins to use and a washer and dryer. Disappointments: The property wasn't as nice as what the pictures represented. The host originally listed a 3rd bed in the living room and AC which we were counting on. However, there was no AC in the house and the springs in the pull out mattress in the living room were rusted and broken, and the bed itself smelled mildewy, as did one of the bedrooms and the bathroom. There were animal droppings literally everywhere- the floor, the rugs, the kitchen counters, the bathroom counters, the walls, and the patio was really covered. This was perhaps the biggest disappointment, since I had specifically relied on the reviews stating that the property was very clean. I contacted the host but she didn't resolve or address our issues during the stay. VRBO helpfully informed me after the fact that I should have reached out to them during the stay instead of relying on the host. Hard to spend all your vacation time trying to resolve an issue that shouldn't be there in the first place, especially when you are encouraged to work out the issue with the host first. Not sure if they will even post this. Pro Tip: Don't use VRBO, as they are far more interested in profit than protecting and supporting their guests. The company and the host have been unwilling to address our concerns.

Absolute Paradise!

As amazing as the photos on this listing are, they don't even really do justice to how spectacular it is. The view is as good as you can find anywhere in Hawaii, and we watched sunset every evening from the lanai. Easy access to lots of beaches without ever needing to go into Kona.

My husband and I love the ocean. We are both artists and have taken our home and turned it into an artistic getaway! We enjoy being in Hawaii and the Big Island, as it stills has the feeling of 'olde Hawaii,' and country. You will love the location and the smell of plumerias outside the bedroom windows. The blue warm ocean is perfect for swimming with much of the time sunny. We really love providing a wonderful vacation experience for our guests.

We bought this home as our retreat from the big city. We wanted a space where we could create and Ron, as a professional artist, could paint. So now Ron has created so many beautiful paintings that decorate this beautiful home. It makes it even more special for us.
We have alot of life around like geckos, that makes this property charming. Our little friends keep us company on the lanai!

You will enjoy the quiet and the privacy of the tropical gardens. The ocean and coastline view is 180 degree and you can see all the way down the coast on clear days! This is a very special property and we know you, your friends and family will enjoy all the great amenities, privacy and great beach location!! Everyone should know that we surrounded by a tropical environment and we have critters, like geckos around. Since we are surrounded by tropics, at times you can encounter our littles friends in the house. Geckos are completely harmless. And cute.
