About this property

Oceanfront Cabin-Castle in Maine Woods

We welcome you to experience our unique oceanfront log cabin-castle in the woods.

Matching the unique exterior architecture—with its rustic turret and tower, is eclectic interior design. The house was lovingly built by the owner over the course of 50 years. Bedrooms are named for the Hall family history: the Reverend’s Library, the Botanist’s Retreat, and the Lookout Loft. The house sleeps six comfortably, each room with a double bed. There is plenty of space in first floor living area for air mattress/extra guests if desired (no charge for additional people).

The open concept first floor has a wide layout kitchen, generous living room and front dining area, boasting a full wall of oceanfront windows with additional seating. Two-story ceilings feature exposed beams surrounding a catwalk that leads to an ocean-view loft bedroom. The living room has a smart TV where you can use your streaming services, as the house comes equipped with free Wi-Fi.

Though the ocean makes for a wonderful natural cooling system, the house is also equipped with air conditioning for summer comfort. In the winter, supplement the modern heating system with our large, modern wood stove (wood provided in attached shed).

We hope you will delight in discovering all of the uniquely sourced items and crafty carpentry that has been integrated into the home—from stained glass windows to nineteenth century barn board paneling to driftwood handles and rails.

There is ample woodland surrounding the property for walking and exploring, which includes access to Reid State Park and its beaches. Maine State Park pass included with rental.

We are a pet-friendly residence, so feel free to bring along your furry family members to enjoy our one-of-a-kind Maine gem!

The location and views are phenomenal, as is the energy. I like to reconnect with what is actually important in this world on vacations, and this is the ideal place for such remembering and reorienting. There is even an impressive library for nature and social justice to help out.

Unique & Refreshing

A very unique property with an unbeatable view. While it is rustic, if you’re looking to get back in touch with nature and enjoy the simple things, this is the perfect place to do so. We had a wonderful time… thank you Hall family!

Great location!

Thanks to the Hall's for opening there home to us. This place is within a short hike to Reid State Park which means not only did we have a great veiw of rhe ocean from the house but we also took advantage of the 1 mile beach at the end of the driveway. There were plenty of things in the house for a comfortable day at the beach. We enjoyed seeing seals right from the living room and watching the sunrises from the big rocks at the waters edge. All in all a great stay.

We loved the quirkiness of the property and all the rooms. The catwalk to my room was fun. We never found the 'path' to the beach but did use the provided beach pass. We would have loved a spot to sit outside in the sun. We saw seals and porpoises right in front of the property. Views are stunning.

Wonderful

Every thing was great. The beds were comfortable, and lots of comfortable chairs to set in as you enjoy an absolutely wonderful view. Communication with the host was quick and easy. I am not sure that I would make the drive from Alabama to Maine again but, if I do I would most certainly stay here again.

Excellent place to stay! My adult daughters and I had a great mid-week get-a-way at your place. It was warm and welcoming. We loved being steps away from Reid State Park. Well equipped kitchen, the woodstove was lovely. Thanks!

My husband and I and our Golden Retriever spent four magical days in September at this unique and most interesting home. Situated at the end of a dirt road, surrounded by forest, perched above a rocky slope leading down to the ocean, there is a feeling of being nurtured and protected from the outside world, yet minutes away from civilization when desired. From the first early sunrise views of land, sea, and sky to the tranquil setting sun at night, the outside scene was captivating, including the haunting calls of loons at night and the hammering of a pileated woodpecker at the woodpile in the driveway. We enjoyed the rustic,  comfortable and creative interior that’s filled with eclectic furniture, a vast variety of books, rocks and shells, pottery, and other interesting items that made it an adventure to explore. Right next to Reid State Park, a short drive to several excellent restaurants, and a half-hour to hour drive to other points of interest, the Hall House was a real find, the most unique of many great places we’ve stayed at in our visits to Maine. Thank you, Micah and family, for sharing it!

A truly immersive escape

This cabin is something incredibly singular and special. It is imbued with the legacy of the Hall family, and you can read their history as you explore the house. The view is unbelievable - waking up, going downstairs, and being that close to the ocean is so peaceful. We could have spent a month reading as nearly every room is a library. The kitchen is stocked with some great old cast irons and lobster pots for whatever one would need. The China and dining wear even had character and personality. This place is truly a gift, and we thank Micah and the Hall family for opening their doors to guests like us. We take the peace and joyful energy of this place with us. We hope to return someday.

Our visit to Maine was to celebrate some big birthdays, and we wanted a very special place. The house and location were the stars of the trip. It’s kind of hard to describe how this area and being able to stay in this house made us feel. It was as if we were being welcomed into a family that we almost, but didn’t know, but wish we had. Every nook and corner of the house has something special, and it all adds up to just feeling very lucky that we were able to spend time here. It was hard to leave. Thank you Micah and the rest of your family for opening up this very special place to strangers. I kind of think it would’ve made your mom and dad happy.

We loved are stay at this beautiful rustic oceanfront home. The large windows along the entire ocean side of the house were a highlight. We view of water, boats, wildlife; sounds of waves on the rocks right outside; and ocean air were at once both invigorating and peaceful. We slept in the loft room and watched the sunrise over the ocean from bed. It was glorious. I love cooking and the kitchen was very well equipped to both cook and serve large meals. It was fun to climb on the rocks down the shore a bit to visit the adjacent state park beach, and we loved the trails through the woods. The collection of books in the home was impressive and captivating to explore.

First rate location and view. We saw seals, ducks, and porpoises right from the living room! It is the last house before Reid State Park, which was wonderful. It was fun to climb down on the rocks in front of the house. The cabin is rustic and has a lot of unique decorations. As such, dust has accumulated a bit on some of those things. However, the linens were clean and the kitchen and bath areas were as well. Bring your own toilet paper as they don't technically supply it. I could not find this information in the listing, however, so here's a heads up. Thankfully there was an emergency supply! We enjoyed our stay.

The uniqueness of the cabin made it an amazing place to stay. We loved the view out the windows to the rocks and water. We climbed the rocks every day and took all the way to Reid State Park (don’t forget to bring park pass). Five Island Lobster is a must to get fresh lobster brought in by the fisherman. Met a couple from Maine that lived 2 hours away and they said it was the best lobster in Maine. It was amazing the whole 1.75 lbs lobster. Did a 3 hour drive to Acadia National Park. We loved our whole experience here and highly recommend.

Direct ocean views with authentic rustic charm!

This home offers a stunning oceanfront location with a bouldery beach and amazing access to Reid State Park with miles of beaches and trails. The rustic house offers great views and sounds of the ocean wherever you are and is cozy but spacious. It feels like you are staying at Grandma's house in a beautiful way. The house holds fascinating collections of books, rocks and other items and is truly one of a kind. We did find the Internet access and cell signal spotty at times, but was enough for basic tasks and our purpose for the stay was to enjoy the ocean and area trails. Micah was easy to communicate with and we really enjoyed our stay.

Picturesque Maine coast

What a beautiful location. This property will leave instant memories for anyone who stays here. The house is such a cool piece of history with little nooks and crannies filled with vintage items. The kitchen is very user friendly and has almost everything needed to prepare a family meal in. The large windows allowed us to sit and just watch the waves and birds pass by. The living space spilled out onto the side deck with plenty of shade and the sea breeze to keep us cool. Upstairs the bedrooms were decent sized as was the bathroom. The bathroom was fully stocked and ready for us to use. Reid State Park, being right next door was an awesome place to wander at night with our dog, just not on the beach per the rules of the park. We had an enjoyable dinner in the park one night as well. We are already planning for our next visit. The owner of the property is very quick to answer any questions.

We are the Hall Family and this is the home our father built! We are very excited to share it with you so you can continue its legacy and create memories here with your family and friends, much as we have over the years.

Why they chose this property

This area is a perfect place to visit and relax with its combination of woodland hiking and wildlife, and beach fun and sun in the Summer. In Winter, it is a known cross-country skiing hub, with downhill destinations, such as Sugarloaf and Sunday River, within driving distance. In the Fall, the foliage is absolutely breathtaking. And, in Spring, the buds, blooms and butterflies breathe life back into the awakening scenery. And what makes this oasis truly restorative is the seclusion, while still being only 5 minutes to the nearest country store, 5 minutes to the Wharf and Lobster Co, 20 minutes to charming downtown Bath, 30 minutes to the college town of Brunswick and Boothbay Harbor, and only 40 mins to the Freeport shopping outlets. Even Portland with its historic Old Port, is only an hour away. This spot is ideal for anything you want to do in Midcoast Maine!

What makes this property unique

Completely built by owner and lived in by just us our whole lives. Hand-built features/unique architecture. Private woods/trails. State park and beach adjacent. Classic Maine rocky-cliffs. Sustainable infrastructure. Wood stove. Stained glass windows. Ocean front views.
