About this property
Pretty village house with garden
This charming and cosy village house is situated in the oldest and quietest part of La Garde Freinet, yet just 2 minutes walk from shops, restaurants and fun village life. The small private walled garden makes this a unique choice for your holiday.
You enter the property from the historic square, passing through a gate into your own private garden. Here you will find a table with chairs, under the shade of the wisteria and jasmine as well as plenty of potted plants. There are some comfortable reclining chairs for enjoying an afternoon snooze in the sun or shade, as you prefer!
Entering the house the main floor consists of an open plan kitchen, a dining table which will seat 6 people, and a comfortable seating area with flat screen TV on which you can watch one of the DVDs provided or connect up your gadget to watch whatever you like using the WIFI provided.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge/freezer, oven, gas & electric hob, dishwasher, microwave, and Nespresso coffee machine. For winter visits there is an electric wall heater but also a wood burning stove if it gets very chilly.
The second floor has a large, sunny triple bedroom with both a double and single bed, wardrobe, shelves and double doors leading out onto a sunny balcony which overlooks the garden. There is a separate bathroom on this floor with a bath with shower attachment, toilet sink and the washing machine, ironing board and iron are also found here.
On the top floor is the very large, airy master bedroom, with a king size double bed, extensive fitted wardrobes and an ensuite shower room with a spacious shower, toilet and sink. There is a hairdryer tucked away under the sink for your convenience. The windows offer a lovely view across the village, as well as a wonderful through breeze to keep you cool in summer.
Both bedrooms have portable electric fans for summer, heating for winter, and bed linens and bath towels are provided. Please bring you own beach towels.
The history of the house and this part of the village is quite an interesting one - constructed in the mid 1800s at a time when the cork industry was booming rumours have it that Place de l'Amour was so named because the houses were bordellos servicing the cork workers.
Nestled in the heart of the Maures Mountains, the old provençal village of La Garde Freinet has successfully preserved its authentic character. Set in a forest you will arrive along picturesque roads which wind through a wild and wonderfully natural landscape.
The heart of the village is where you will find a choice of bars and restaurants where you can while away many an hour watching the eclectic mix of locals and visitors pass by.
Market days are Sundays and Wednesdays, always the busiet time in the village when it really comes to life. For other days there are a choice of small grocery shops, bakers, butchers and other interesting little shops well worth a browse.
La Garde Freinet is an ideal choice for a holiday - you will be away from the crowds that populate the coastal towns, yet near enough to visit these beautiful towns and gorgeous beaches as often as you like. For those who prefer to stay closer to home, there is a public open-air swimming pool and there are numerous walks and hikes to help you really explore the area.

About the host
Hosted by Rebecca Saxby
I moved to La Garde Freinet in 2003 and bought this house a few months later. It was my home for 10 happy years but a larger family necessitated a move to larger premises! I continue to live in the village, however, and manage the property myself, welcoming you on arrival and answering any questions you might have about the house or the local area.
What makes this property unique
A village house with a garden is a rarity in La Garde Freinet so I just knew it was the house for me and I fell in love with it immediately. The quiet location, so close to the centre of the village, were also big factors in my decision to buy this house.
