About this property

The Historic Hideaway

Enjoy life in the swankiest pre-civil war servant’s quarter’s the 1800’s had to offer!! Fantastically located, walkable to hiking/biking, shopping, dining, coffee, upscale boutiques, the Farmington Valley rail trail, Fisher Meadow Recreation complex and Avon Old Farms School. Enjoy three bedrooms and a modern eat-in kitchen with easy access to highways, Hartford and all of Farmington Valley. Plenty of off street parking, plus private patio with Adirondack chairs and grill.

This classic New England neighborhood is iconic to Connecticut. Located around the corner from the architecturally stunning private preparatory Avon Old Farms School. In 1908, when my ancestors migrated to America from Italy, they, like many Italian Americans passing through Ellis Island, Chose Avon, Connecticut to call home. At the time, Avon had a one room schoolhouse where my family was educated, and which still exists as a historical monument today. Avon has progressed from a town filled with tobacco farms, bootleggers and dirt roads to a sleek, cosmopolitan community that has maintained ties with the past. It offers golf courses, a recreational 11-mile-long bike trail, miles of hiking trails and shopping from locally owned small boutiques to the nation’s largest franchise operations. My home was built in 1800 during the pre-automobile when everything was walkable, so the home is conveniently situated walkable to old Avon village, coffee shops, dining, and the town’s still thriving Italian American Club. Take a step back in time and treat yourself to life in a home built for the early Avon leaders!

This property is the second floor of one of Avon`s few multifamily homes. The second floor, originally the homeowners servants quarters, now serves as an independent second floor three bedroom unit. Please reach out with any questions. Thank you!

In 2005 Money Magazine rated Avon third safest town in America.

House exactly as listed. We had a question and the property owner replied instantly - great communication. Close to Talcott Mountain which was an amazing hike with beautiful views.

Liked: Check-in, location
Disliked: Cleanliness
Location was good. But the place was dirty. There were dust everywhere: on shelves, on furniture, on refrigerator. There were dirty dishes with mildew on them in the dishwasher. When we run dishwasher it leaked. Lamp fell off the ceiling. And then we found our loaf of bread half eaten and mice droppings everywhere. Owner explained that dishwasher wasn't run properly because he didn't provide dishwasher tablets. He did brought these tabs to us and then tried to fix that dishwasher. When light fixture fell off he texted telling me that he'll come next day or the following but we never saw him anymore.
