About this property
Exquisite Panoramic Views From This Elegant, Modern Ridge-top Adobe Casita
This 2-bedroom, 1-bath contemporary adobe casita guest home sits on five acres high on a ridge-top just two miles north of Santa Fe, at 7,000'.
The striking 360-degree high-desert views include the famed Sangre de Cristo Mountains' ski hill to the east, west across the Rio Grand Valley to Los Alamos and the Jemez Mountains, and extending all the way north to Colorado.
Arroyos, canyons, ridges, mesas, and mountains surround the casita -- the vistas are unique to northern New Mexico, and the guest house is perfectly sited to take advantage of the breath-taking beauty.
Designed by esteemed Chicago architect Jim Nagle, whose homes have been featured in Architectural Digest, this romantic hideaway has everything you need for graceful living.
The complete kitchen features a French Gascon blue limestone countertop, Thermador gas stove/convection oven, Bosch dishwasher, and SubZero under-the-counter fridge/freezer. Jim Nagle described it as "an entire kitchen in one elegant island."
The exquisite interior walls are hand-plastered with custom colors throughout. The master bedroom features a king-size bed complete with upscale Ralph Lauren bedding, and sheets from Tuscany and Venice.
The expansive deck, which runs the length of the house, is perfect for watching the hummingbirds against the backdrop of northern New Mexico's magnificent sunsets.
Everything you need for barbecuing is in place ... all you have to do is fire up the grill!
You'll love the breath-taking views of the Santa Fe Opera House, the Jemez Mountains, and the Tesuque valley.
And it's a very special experience to watch the occasional thunderstorm moving across the vast expanse of the northern New Mexico sky.
If you visit in winter, you'll cozy up next to the custom-made fireplace in the living room, with its enormous windows allowing you to enjoy the exquisite vistas and scenic mesas.
Year-round, you can hike the private trails right outside your front door, cross-country ski in the arroyo just below your home-away-from-home. You and your family will enjoy an unforgettable stay in this peaceful, quiet getaway.
Furnishings and accessories have been collected from all around the world by Terry. The casita is full of Moroccan lanterns, Thai silks, and dishes and furniture from Mexico, all complementing the warm, natural materials and high-end finishes throughout the guest house.
Birds and wildlife abound in this exclusive, million-dollar neighborhood. Tesuque is an extraordinarily beautiful village, renowned for the old-growth cottonwood trees lining the narrow valley’s creeks.
Tesuque is rich with pinon pines, junipers, cedars, cottonwoods, and aspens ... all because of the year-round streams running through its picturesque canyon.
Perfect for a solitary writer's retreat, romantic getaway, or your next family reunion, this place has it all.
And best of all, this lovely retreat is just five minutes away from all the Santa Fe action.
Terry loves dogs; he's happy to host your four-legged companion.
He's also been known to cook one of his gourmet meals for folks, including the best calabacitas in the state.
He's on-site, and takes great care to create special experiences for his guests. Terry's always ready to answer any questions about the area. He's taken folks to his secret fly-fishing spots, and into town for the insiders' live-jazz nights at the local tapas bar.
He's stocked the casita with fiction and non-fiction books, reflecting his eclectic travels around the world. There's a stereo for your pleasure, along with some of Terry's favorite jazz and bossa nova cd's.

About the host
Hosted by Terry Brunner
Before I retired, I had an active career as a strike force chief in the organized crime and racketeering sections of the Justice Department, leading teams of federal agents against the mafia in Cleveland and Pittsburg.
I was the long-time head of Chicago's Better Government Association, investigating political corruption in Chicago and Washington.
My investigations have been featured in the national media, including 60 Minutes, 20/20 and Dateline. I've worked closely with Mike Wallace, Ed Bradley, Brian Ross and Geraldo Rivera.
My work has been featured in Time, Newsweek, and Chicago Magazine. The investigations won almost every national journalism award, including the Pulitzer Prize.
I taught investigative reporting, broadcast journalism and media at Northwestern and Loyola universities, and Columbia College in Chicago.
After 20 years here, I've happily settled into my Santa Fe life, hiking or cross-country skiing every day in the arroyo or on the private trail with my Aussie.
And yes, I love children -- I've got three adult children and five grand-children. The casita is a wonderful place to vacation with your kids; and everyone loves the dog, whose name is Toots.
I'm a long-time jazz aficionado, and often take guests into town for live jazz concerts.
I'm also an avid fly fisherman, and have a great time taking guests to my favorite secret spots in the nearby Sangre de Cristo mountains.
You can celebrate the day's catch, grilling the fresh-caught trout while enjoying the sunset with a glass of wine from your private patio.
Please give me a call to talk about staying in the guest house: 505-350-7422

Why they chose this property
I love this particular property because I enjoy Santa Fe so much, and love the sense of spaciousness and privacy, the outstanding vistas all around us, as well as how close it is to all the fantastic restaurants, museums, concerts and movies.
Also, it's just five minutes to access points for the High Road through Truchas and Chimayo up to Taos, over to Los Alamos and Valles Caldera, and all of Northern New Mexico.
I lived in the guest house for two years while my own home was being built. The guest casita was designed to be open to the natural environment ... that's why it has 7 sets of French doors, each one opening onto to its own patio.

What makes this property unique
I came here to build my dream home. The fantastic location -- with its retreat-like setting, along with the proximity to Santa Fe's cultural scene and great restaurants -- has everything I always wanted.
Chicago architect Jim Nagle and I collaborated to create and build an intimate, elegant home and the "ultimate" guest house on this very special land.
We knew this was the right site because it's the outstanding high point on the long ridge between Santa Fe and Tesuque.
Nagle designed this guest house based on his experiences while building his own guest houses in New Mexico and Wisconsin.
I've never gotten tired of sitting in my living room looking east to the Sangre de Cristos, or sitting on the north patio watching the lights come on in the Pojoaque valley at dusk.
Many of the unique New Mexico penstemon varieties fill the hillside in the extensive gardens surrounding the casita.
The hummingbirds are back by mid-April, and stay though October, filling the air with their special magic. The gardens are also a popular hang-out for many migrating varieties of birds such as grosbeaks, tanagers, and finches. And, of course, there are always a few ravens flying overhead.
I've been here for 20 years ... and every sunset is as remarkable as the first one. This truly is my dream home come true.
It's a real pleasure to share this land with guests. I'd love to talk with you about staying in Hummingbird Heaven: give me a call: 505-820-3167, or 505-699-4197.
