About this property

Adorable Cottage In The Heart Of The Old Beach Area, Close To The Boardwalk.

*(Winter 2026 the cottage is closed for some needed upgrades and repairs. Photos will be updated as soon as possible.) Family Beach Cottage with perennial flower garden, screened porch and small open deck with plenty of seating. Four blocks from ocean, in the middle of the resort boardwalk area, close to restaurants. Within easy walking distance of the 24th St stage, the Neptune statue, the new Dome concert venue and wave pool. It is about 8 walking blocks from the Convention Center and Athletic Center. In the summer, free entertainment along Atlantic Ave in the evenings provided by Beach Events. Two bedrooms, lovely décor. South bedroom holds a beautiful cast-iron canopy QUEEN bed custom-made for the Pink House by Levin's Brass Beds of Virginia. North room holds FULL-size bed with a SINGLE-size roll-away underneath. Total, the cottage should be able to sleep a family of 5 comfortably, depending on individuals' size and needs. Linens and pillows are provided, beds made for you for your arrival so you don't have to do anything. *Be aware that the full-size bed may not fit larger guests comfortably. The house might only then fit 3. We count on your experience to know your own needs. Main room has a dresser and the second room has shelf, small closet with portable racks for hanging wet clothes and towels. Appliance-equipped kitchen for cooking complete meals (no ice-maker or dish-washer), microwave, crock pot, Kuerig and Mister Coffee machines, handy for those traveling with special diet restrictions or busy families. Small open backyard (no fence). Dining/living areas, tv, high-speed internet, (we are currently deciding whether to continue with cable and Netflix because of costs) central air, electric fireplace (replaces old wood one per my insurance agent). Games, books, and drawing items for rainy days. Grocery store and coin laundry nearby. Street parking daytime only (we paid for 2 Guest Passes at the nearby overnight 25th Street Public Garage, two blocks away). The city will not give guest passes to STRs any longer, starting in 2025) Flowers almost all year 'round, changes by my whim or Mother Nature's mood swings. Cleaning costs have already been included. Cozy 100% cotton linens provided, one fee per stay: Beds will be comfortably prepared for your arrival, one bath, one beach towel per guest (make sure your guest number is accurate). Kitchen linens provided. Basic amount of toilet paper and soap as well (We do not guarantee supply for duration). Both bedrooms have black-out curtains as well as light-filtering blinds. This cottage is like having an aunt with a beach house. Please enjoy yourselves and say hello to the neighbors. It's the Virginia thing to do!
*CLEANING: Since the Covid-19 shut-down, we have been cleaning and painting at the cottage. Our housekeeper has asthma so we do not make a habit of using harsh chemicals in the house unless absolutely needed. In addition to our normal system of using mild cleansers, we are finishing all guest preparation by wiping down 'touchy' surfaces like handles and light switches with alcohol disinfectant as we walk out the door and lock it behind us. Sheets, towels, and pillowcases will be washed in hot water, Tide, and baby detergent. Blankets and coverlets are cared for as needed with regular airing. Be aware that there is no dishwasher in the house. If you feel uncomfortable using the supplied housewares, please bring paper plates, etc.
We are doing our best to provide you with a safe and comfortable environment during your stay. Please keep us in mind as well. Selma the house-keeper cares for the elderly in her other job. It is very important she stays healthy. We are grateful for your co-operation.

Host profile image
I am a cartoonist and obsessive gardener, grew up in Virginia Beach after my Navy family settled here. I still live in the area, just a few miles away. Tom, my husband and transplanted Buck-eye from Ohio, was a newspaper reporter for over 30 years, for the local transit company as a 'talking head', now retired as well he can be. We now balance our VaBch life with a Richmond life so that we are able to help with our grandbaby's childcare. You can ask me about any flower in the garden and I can tell you more than you want to hear. My husband and I both like to cook. My husband's constant goal is to get beyond all the many projects I keep coming up with. My mother was French, from the South of France, but I have become terribly rusty with the language. We lived in this cottage, were married in the backyard, taught our daughter to walk on the front path. Please enjoy it and make it part of your family's story too.

Why they chose this property

The Pink House is very special to our family. I bought it as a young woman when it had seen better days. The area is quirky, artsy, and alive. Originally, I believe the now 75 year old house was a summer home for a Norfolk family, only used occasionally. I loved how close it was to everything and all the activity surrounding it. The paneling, bathroom tile and fireplace are original late 1940-early 50s. With my father's help, I fixed it up and added the back closet area, redid the kitchen, and over time, made it into a cute, though small, comfortable cottage. My husband-to-be moved into the white apartments next door. We became friends and eventually married at the cottage with all our friends attending a backyard ceremony. After our first child was born, the tiny space got to be a bit difficult, so we moved further away, keeping the Pink House as a rental to help pay for it. We love to hike in the State Park and often ride bikes on the boardwalk or go listen to a concert. I love the Neptune Festival in September and buying ice cream during evening strolls. In the Spring of 2016, I decided I wanted to keep the house for family and friends to visit, so we added air conditioning and furnished the house as we would like to live, to be enjoyed by others who might see the same potential in this remnant from earlier days. We are not interested in renting it all the time, but I am proud of this house and would like to share the joy it has given me with other travelers.

What makes this property unique

No question, everyone's favorite part of this house is the front porch. Originally, without air conditioning, it was too hot to stay inside so I had a little table for eating and a sitting area for visiting. Every morning I would get my coffee and putter in the garden and in the evening I would go ride my bike or rollerblade on the boardwalk. I love the open kitchen and the huge sunlit windows. I am still acquainted with the neighbors and am often there to work on the garden. Within walking distance there's the beach, concerts, food, the Convention Center, lots of restaurants and activities. I've had complete strangers stop to admire the house and take photos of the garden. There's always something going on, always activity. I love my Little Pink House!
