Our cottage-style house is located on an acre of land on an arm of Mecox Bay--an easy boat ride or bike ride to the ocean beach. Facing west, the house allows spectacular views of sunsets over the bay. The main house has three bedrooms, plus a study off the master bedroom that could be a bedroom or a nursery, and 2 baths. The master bedroom's wall of windows gives sweeping views of the bay. The suite over the garage has a bedroom (queen bed), a sitting room or bedroom (day bed with trundle), and a bathroom. Our guests rave about the hot/cold outside shower, a perfect way to shed the sand from the beach. A 40x14 foot gunite pool is located in a fenced off grassy area. Flowers and flowering bushes abound in several garden areas. A pond on the property is a haven for wildlife. (All water--pool, pond, and bay--is protected from reach by unsupervised children.) Our guests particularly appreciate the privacy of our property--it sits at the end of a long right of way, far off the street. We offer three kayaks, two paddleboards, a motorized dinghy, and a 13' pontoon boat with electric motor and 4 swivel seats. All of these are available for use on the bay. A car with beach sticker is available. Bikes for adults and children are provided, plus beach gear. A picturesque gazebo overlooks the bay. A pergola provides shaded dining and seating on two sides of the house; it really functions as another room of the house.
Perhaps the best description of our house are reviews from two tenants who each spent three summers. (Their reviews are not included as part of VRBO reviews because they were written after the time limit set by VRBO.)
"HOME AWAY FROM HOME" Nestled amongst the trees on a perfectly situated waterfront block, this Water Mill house has to be one of the Hamptons best-kept secrets. Positioned at the front of the site to take advantage of glorious sunsets, the outdoor deck, seating area and lawn are a focal point for relaxing, cocktails and dining. The beautifully tended gardens which surround the property give way to natural foliage and wildflower that cascade down to the water and bay views beyond. The waterside rotunda (gazebo) also offers a unique vantage point at sunset to enjoy an evening drink or moment of solitude.
A grassy pathway leading past the pond provides direct access to the waterfront revealing a treasure trove of watercraft for your enjoyment. The calm waters also provide the perfect launching point for stand up paddle boards - journey onto Hayground Cove, Mecox Bay or for the more adventurous (and energetic) directly onto Scott Cameron Beach.
The pool area is fabulous - sunny, shady and secluded. There are several sun lounges and umbrellas and the area is securely fenced off from the main lawn area.
In the main house, bedroom accommodation is flexible (three bedrooms sleeping six) with the ante room of the master suite providing additional accommodation for overnight guests. The guest house also provides privacy in comfort for up to four guests. The kitchen is fully equipped for entertaining although summer nights afford the opportunity for frequent barbecuing and al fresco dining.
Several beaches, Bridgehampton village and the fantastic nearby farm-stand are easily reached on one of the many bicycles provided. There are numerous shady lanes nearby which are also great for scenic cycling journeys in the Watermill and Bridgehampton area.
We have enjoyed summer, after summer, after summer at 26 Bay Lane and cannot recommend it (or its owners) more highly. This is an amazing home away from home!"

"A SLICE OF HEAVEN" "We spent three unforgettable summers at Jinny and Mark’s beautiful home on Mecox Bay, and it truly was a slice of heaven. The house is cozy and inviting, surrounded by stunning natural beauty. Deer and rabbits make regular appearances around the property and hummingbirds often feed on the lush flowers adorning the pergola
Our children loved every minute of kayaking and exploring the bay on the various boats provided or spending afternoons in the pool. My husband and I found peace watching the incredible sunrises and sunsets over the water from the dock or right from the primary bedroom that looks out over the bay. The whole family loved biking to the farm stand or down to the beach.
The home’s location was ideal - its a quick car ride to the ocean beaches and it’s right in the heart of the Hamptons, making it easy to access Southampton or take the scenic backroads to Bridgehampton, Sag Harbor, East Hampton and beyond.
The combination of quiet, natural surroundings with convenient proximity to local towns made it the perfect getaway for our family. Jinny and Mark have created a wonderful retreat, and we’ll always treasure our time spent there."

About the host
Hosted by Jinny Ewald
We built our house in 1978. We fell in love with the location when we rented a cottage two doors down several years earlier and got married there. We used our house primarily as a summer house until Mark retired in 1999. Since that time the house has been our permanent residence.
Why they chose this property
We grew up not being near an ocean, so when we both ended up with careers in New York City, we decided to build a house in the Hamptons to take advantage of being near the Atlantic and to give our two girls the chance to become ocean swimmers.
What makes this property unique
The bay views! The proximity to the ocean, the access to water for boating, the rural feel of the property, the privacy (way off the road).
