Our trip started off pretty stressful. A tree fell on power lines along Route 50 while we were driving up, and we ended up waiting in Pollock Pines for about four hours before learning the road wouldn’t reopen. With a 6-year-old and a 7-month-old baby, we ultimately had to turn around, drive back down to Folsom, and book a hotel for the night. Unfortunately, since the reservation was nonrefundable, we lost the first night’s payment.Communication for the rental felt a bit impersonal. The responses seemed AI-generated, and when I sent a few messages with specific questions about the road closures. I received generic replies. A little more personalized communication would have made a big difference, especially given the circumstances. That said, the house itself is very nice. The steam shower and sauna were amazing after being out in the snow, and the fireplaces made the space feel warm and cozy. The downstairs video room was a big hit and perfect for relaxing in the evenings.A few small improvements: labeling the remotes and providing clearer instructions for the electronics would be helpful, the towels had a bit of a strange smell and likely need replacing, and the can openers were broken/hard to use.Other than those minor issues, we had a nice stay. We even saw three coyotes walking through the backyard, which was a memorable experience!Overall, once we finally arrived, we were able to relax and enjoy the home. Just wish we could have had that extra night.
