Love Stay Salty

This is our third year renting Stay Salty. The property is well maintained and well appointed. Better Beach Rentals is awesome to work with. We had one request upon arrival and it was handled within a couple hours. We will be back!

Great location, could use some TLC

The location of the house is ideal--walk out the door, and you're on the beach. The house itself is nice, but the bathrooms are very small and smell of pee and mildew. I could tell the house had been cleaned, but it either needs a really "deep" cleaning or to have floors replaced and walls repainted.

Loved our stay at this property. Beautiful views, and house perfect for one or two families. Very clean and cute decor. Beds all comfortable and two rooms have ocean views. We would definitely stay here again. My only thing I would recommend after staying at multiple VRBO and Airbnb I think for the price, it’s always a nice touch to have little things there when you pull in after traveling. Other rentals we have loved will have shampoo / conditioner to start or for the week and some basic starter items and even have a basic cleaner at the house. I think after a long travel - it’s a nice touch to have things like little snacks, water bottles, paper products, etc. For the rental price, I think this would be great and welcoming touch... I also think it would be great to have a couple extra throw blankets at house-

Although our kitchens are fully equipped, we do not supply toiletries, food or paper products in our units. We do however provide one roll of paper towel, a roll of tissue paper and one dishwasher detergent to get you started :)

Kiddo & furbaby friendly! Loved it!

We absolutely loved our time at Stay Salty! The beds were super comfortable (which is usually 50/50 at rentals) & the kitchen is very well stocked, including a LCBoil pot! You can tell the home is both kid & pet friendly, but not in an unclean way. Bunk beds were great for the kids, as well as movies, games, cards & balls! 2 gates completely close in the deck at each end so pets can roam freely (and 2 baby gates inside laundry room to use for inside!). There is both a Keurig AND a full size coffee maker….something I’m always trying to discern from pictures as I’m packing. The upstairs shower is DIVINE! Very cozy home with lots of amenities! We had an issue with the washing machine being broken & while it was certainly an inconvenience, I did find Better Beach Rentals, the property management agency, to be very responsive. Within two days we had a new washing machine after a repair attempt proved a replacement was necessary. MUCH better response than what we have had with Oak Island Accommodations agency at other properties in the past. That alone would make me want to seek out BBR’s properties! Other than the washer debacle, my only other potential suggestion for the owners would be to invest in some more substantial bedding. The thin grey coverlets on 2twins & 1queen are really not sufficient for adequate sleeping warmth. Renters may want to bring their own comforters/blankets. All in all, would still highly recommend & found it to be a very warm & inviting home!

While the furniture and finishings in this home are nice. We were deeply disappointed at the cleanliness of the property. The home desperately needed a deep clean (Dusting, moping, etc.). We also had a huge problem with roaches. At one point me and my husband even found one in the bed with us, and my husband later found one that had crawled into his hairbrush which fell out and crawled away when he went to brush his hair. I’m not a person to complain at all. I can understand maybe a dead roach on the floor but we saw multiple roaches and finding one in the bed is where I got really upset. So I shared my concerns with the rental company. They only informed me that they do have the property sprayed for bugs and deep cleaned on a regular schedule. However, we were offered no compensation or credit or anything other than “sorry about it.” As someone who has a background in business, I felt that this situation was a reflection of poor customer service.

Family Vacation

Loved the house. Plenty of room, great outdoor space. The only issue was getting up and down the area for the beach. I know that is no fault of the owners.

Great location, right on the beach. Weather was perfect. Very comfortable home. The only challenging thing we experienced was the sheets did not fit the beds. When we opened our pre-packaged sets we discovered they were for full size mattress instead of queen. But we worked it out.

Great house and location but difficult to get on the beach

This house was perfect for us. Clean and well maintained. The problem we had was that the dunes replenishment project caused the walk to get on to the beach treacherous. There is a mat (not the wooden walk way that is jn the photos) that goes up and over over the dune for access. This is very difficult to climb up and impossible to walk down. Elderly, small children and anyone with mobility concerns would not be able to use the direct access. This is something that should have been disclosed before renting.

Great beachfront house!

Great place for 2 families to stay right on the beach. There are 3 queen rooms and one room with 2 sets of bunk beds. We came after a hurricane and the boardwalk had been damaged and removed, but beach access by the normal stairs wasn't bad. Can't beat the beach views! The cold water feed to the outside shower was damaged in the hurricane, but the hot water worked for a very quick rinse. One negative, the upper deck railing is completely unsafe. I am an engineer, and wouldn't let my children go up there. The railing is held up by 2x2 posts (none of the required 4x4 columns), and not connected to the house (the one short screw had come loose). There were gaps between some of the posts wider than what is allowed. The railing is not sturdy and is dangerous. This should be fixed before one or more people are hurt or killed. BTW, this is a construction issue, not related to the hurricane. Please have an engineer draft plans for a deck that is safe, sturdy and meets building code! All that being said, we would love to stay again. Having a usable upper deck would be icing on the cake.

Needs some TLC

This home has a great view and location on the beach. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and listening to the ocean. This is a home however, that needs some work. We had to call the company to fix the door and one of the gates on the deck. It rained and water was leaking in the patio door into the living room. You could see where there was water damage on the floor and wall around the door, including mold and mildew. The ice maker in the fridge didn't work, which is disappointing when you have 10 people staying in the house. The electrical outlet in the upstairs bathroom also didn't work. We were surprised that the bedrooms didn't have TV's (that isn't the reason we go to the beach; however, many beach homes have them). This could be a great vacation home if it gets some needed TLC.

Great Family Vacation

My family stayed here with my cousin and his family. So in total we had eight, four adults and four children, and had plenty of room for us all to move around. Can I complain about being so close to the water. also having an outside shower with cold and hot water was a plus. as our children decided that that's where they wanted to shower most of the time after spending the day down on the beach. Great location also everything was very well within distance. Note to self, if you're going to try and order pizza when you get down here to this house call on your way. I tried calling several times, 35 to be exact, before leaving and going to Pizza Shack to order. It was amazing. The only reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is because I felt the rental company could have left a few more flyers and Gadgets in the bag that they give you. after driving from an hour south of Atlanta in for the day a cold bottle of water would have been nice. But nothing against the owner, this is an amazing property with amazing views and great time to come. We have already discussed returning next year.

Great place for a large family. Beautiful Beach House!

This was the first time I have ever used homeaway.com. we were very pleased with this house. Right on the beach. Close to shops, resturants, and grocery stores. We have 5 children all the way from College to a four year old this place was perfect for all ages. The beach was not crowded in any way. So it was nice not be somewhere crowded. I personally do not have much to complain about however, the only thing I will have to say is for a home not allowing dogs there was a bit of dog hair on the comforters upstairs and carpet. Personally, that was not a huge deal to us because we understand because we are lovers of furbabies. The kitchen was fully equiped so it made cooking easier. It was a lovely kitchen to cook our Easter dinner. A suggestion I would make would to definately come prepared. Bring toilette paper, paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap, spices you need for cooking, and trash bags. We literally brought everything, but teepee, and paper towels. Beautiful, relaxing,wonderful time

My 3 BFF and I decided to do a ladies ONLY beach vacation. Two of the ladies have recently experienced life changing events. This was our time to "unplug and reset". This beach house was the answer to our prayers. The house is beautifully decorated and offered everything we needed to make it our home for a few days. I would love to return with my grandkids someday. Thanks for sharing

Nice House & Nice Beach... But...

The house was nice but our stay was fair. We enjoyed the beach & surroundings. The 15 minute drive to Southport is worth it too. However, we had multiple issues with the maintenance of the house. The biggest issue were roaches. We averaged 3 a day (except for Friday, we had Zero) They were on the kitchen counter. They were in the silverware drawer. They were on the walls. We bagged all of our food & wiped counters etc. I am not including the 6-8 we killed on the back deck as part of my tally. Based on prior beach excursions, I expected occasional bug issues. In my opinion, this was a bit much. Really grossed my wife & kids out. The sliding back door to the deck was broken & unable to slide open after our first day. It was broken prior to our arrival & was extremely difficult to slide, then it stopped working completely. We called maintenance when we first arrived. He was aware the door was broken & mentioned they had ordered a replacement part. I guess they don't use Amazon Prime for parts, six days later...door still unable to be used. Not the end of the world, but an annoyance. Wifi did not work the first 24 hours. When maintenance came to look at the door I mentioned the wifi issue. Apparently they were switching wifi providers & they forgot to switch out our router. He replaced our router the next day. However, wifi service was spotty the rest of the week. Again, not the end of the world, but an unneeded hassle. Other minor issues noticed upon arrival: moldy coffee grounds left in coffee maker, broken light fixture in upstairs bathroom, hand towel loop in downstairs bathroom kept falling off the wall. Not a big deal. If it weren't for the roaches and the door... I would have given 5 stars. The house is very nice & a perfect size for the 6 adults & 2 toddlers in our group. The beach was great & not over crowded. If you are a dog lover, this is the beach for you. Lot's of dogs & people were responsible with them. When I booked the rental, I felt it was a fair price for a beachfront rental We spent most of our non beach time in the Southport area. Cool downtown & waterfront. Good restaurants & things to do. Shagger Jacks on Oak Island had great food too. (They get very busy though... tough with 2 small children) If you enjoy a cigar, I would recommend Havana Rays on Southport Supply Road. Nice selection & the guy that runs it (Ray?) is very nice too. All in all we enjoyed our stay.

Amazing property

Recent renovations lived up to the pictures. Deck access to the beach was quick and easy. Two outside showers allowed for everyone to clean up with ease. Kitchen is fully equipped and ready to cook large family meals or small snacks. Bedrooms are large enough with nice storage. If you're looking for a large property right on the ocean that doesn't feel like a tacky beach house this is your place. We'll return for sure.
