Whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, this is a superb location - 3 blocks away from a beloved local coffee shop, a well-stocked neighborhood grocery store, 5 popular restaurants, and more. Less than a mile away from many more restaurants and business. Plus, did we mention the space is perfect for two people (or even a third who can sleep on the fold out couch) to rest after a long day exploring Austin. The apartment was completed in 2016, so it's just like new, and it's kept super-tidy and comfortable for guests. The apartment is: 1 mile from the Texas Capitol Building, 1.3 miles from Paramount Theatre, less than 2 miles from the University of Texas, 2 miles to Zilker Park, 2 miles to the Convention Center and close to many other downtown attractions. Ride sharing services (RIde Austin, Lyft, and Uber) typically arrive in less than 10 minutes once they're called. My wife and I bought restored the main house and built the garage and apartment in 2011. We have three kids who all enjoy traveling and more often than not we prefer to stay in vacation rentals over hotels. So we feel like we have a pretty good idea of what we've liked and didn't like. We love Austin and love sharing it with friends and guests.

Why they chose this property

I first moved to the Old West Austin Neighborhood in 1997 and have been here ever since. We had outgrown another house three blocks away, and when this property went on the market, we jumped at the chance to buy it. It's one of the larger lots in the neighborhood which has allowed us to build the carport and apartment as a secondary source of income.

What makes this property unique

This location is amazing because it is close it is to downtown (the Capitol Building is one mile away!) yet it still feels quiet and secluded -- especially in the garage apartment. We love this neighborhood with all its charming bungalows, walkable streets, nearby restaurants, and our elementary school just a 10 minute walk away.
