Great houseGreat weatherWonderful town and activitiesFerry ride to Schoodic peninsula was a hitHouse is old and tired and housekeeping was very lacking
We love the location! Could walk to so many Places, shops and restaurants. The house held all of us comfortably. Our whole family could be in one place for a whole week!! It was the best!
1910 Shingle-style mansion in the heart of Bar Harbor
Landmark 1910 Shingle-style mansion centrally located next to downtown Bar Harbor, just steps from the sand bar to Bar Island. House was as advertised; maintenance and operating features fine; booking and check-in process smooth. A perfect venue for an extended family reunion. (We booked the house for my wife's 70th birthday.)
Perfect location! Being only a short walk into town was great! No worries about parking. More than enough room to accommodate our guests comfortably. just a beautiful space and comfortable stay.
Everything about the stay was great. Right next to downtown and the walk to Bar Island. A huge house with everything you need. Simple check-in and friendly hosts!
Our family enjoyed this property and it's proximity to town as well as the land bridge. It was wonderful to be able to walk to shops and restaurants. The house is spacious with ample room for large groups, as ours was.
Great property for 3 generation family vacation. Plenty of room to spread out. Well supplied with necessities. Gorgeous outdoor space. Perfect location walkable to everything. Would definitely book again if vacationing in the area.
Large mansion built in 1910 within easy walking distance to center of town and the sandbar. Many great spaces to gather friends and family (glass porch, large dining room, large backyard). Plenty of parking, good washers and dryers. Very nice owner / operator.
Extended family came together post-Covid and had best vacation ever!
Perfect location, perfect for large groups.
Angelique was a great host. Thank you!
My family greatly enjoyed our stay at Sunset; the location truly can't be beat and the large house fits any size family and friend combo. Angelique was super helpful and easy to communicate with. Hope to be back!
Beautiful and spacious home. Within walking distance of everything in Bar Harbor.
Weather was pretty rainy with Tropical Storm Lee just off the coast. Thank goodness for this spacious home. Plenty of space for grandkids to play.
There was plenty of room for all of us. The kitchen was well equiped. Some of our family members we’re working online and there were several areas to insure privacy etc. close to shopping , interesting places to eat.
Best location in town. Quick walk to downtown, grocery store, and ice cream shops. There were three generations of a family - twelve in total...but no one felt crowded because there is so much room. Everyone loved the "old world charm" of the house.

"Sunset" home well-named; favorite time of day!
Huge house, great for large families. Perfect location for walking to Sand Island and everywhere downtown. Ample parking. Three stories, lots of stairs; there is a good bedroom downstairs. Only 2 steps up to the front door. Quiet.
Our 15 consisted of 2 grandparents, 6 parents and 7 children ages 6-17. Everyone had great sleeping quarters and room to be all together. The back porch looking over the land bridge to Bar Island was our favorite. Location was perfect for our activities of eating, shopping and hiking Acadia! We were especially impressed with the Owner's quick and positive response to our one request. Thank you so much for opening your home to our family. The wonderful memories of this place will last us a long time!
Overall we had a great stay at the property. Space to spread out with a large group and location can’t be beat. The house is steps from the shopping, food and drinks. Behind the house is the sandbar that leads to bar island.
Had a couple of minor issues however , there was some significant staining on at least one of the couches as well as a not very clean floor throughout the house. Earlier reviews calling it old house clean is a perfect way to phrase it.
Communication was ok but we had asked one question that was left unanswered by host.

Thanks for your review. The sofa on the back porch is an heirloom piece. It is a very unique alphabet print. It is cleaned regularly but does have an ink stain from a previous renter. We are hoping to find someone who can use the arm rest to get the stained area patched.
The floors are swept and mopped between every renter. I will definitely let my housekeeper know to be more thorough - thanks for letting me know.
I am not sure what question went unanswered but I sincerely apologize - I may not always be able to address everything immediately with Bar Harbor being an island and things taking time to get there but I do always try to respond quickly
I had never been to Bar Harbor and spent hours scrutinizing various locations, trying to figure out if this house was in a “good spot”. I will save you the work - it is!!! We LOVED this house and you cannot get any closer to restaurants, boats, beaches, lobster, shops, ice cream and more! Yet it still feels private. It’s a gorgeous house with everything you could possibly need. We loved being so close to the sandbar and spent hours everyday on the back porch. Easy drive to Acadia. We were pleasantly surprised to see fans and air conditioners running when we got there in August.
Overall, just the most magical place to spend time with family and friends! My favorite Vrbo property to date!!
Our extended family stayed at this property for a wonderful Bar Harbor vacation. A welcome feature that is not in the Vrbo website description is the number of appliances that accommodates larger groups. Two big refrigerators and a dorm size fridge where we kept drinks for the kids, two microwaves and three washers and dryers so that we could keep up with laundering clothes. In fact, if I had known there were three washer/dryer units I wouldn't have packed so much! It is located right next to a sand bar where we could observe the tide covering and then uncovering the gravel/sand walkway to an island. This house is walking distance to to many restaurants and boat tours. Acadia is a short drive.
We stayed with friends and family, loved the historic charm of this home. We loved spending time in the back yard and sunroom. The house was very well stocked - lots of dishes, trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper, laundry detergent (thank you!). Plenty of room to park, lots of umbrellas, flashlights, sunblock. Kitchen has everything needed to make larger group dinners. When we arrived furniture seemed to be in odd places, and there is a fair bit of clutter in the closets and pantry areas. Trash take out was as expected, however the recycling was not collected while we stayed and there was recycling from previous guests accumulating on the back porch. The upper rooms had poor air circulation - while fans are provided, stronger fans would be helpful. Lots of effort (more than average rentals) required when leaving - trash, cleaning dishes, stripping beds and starting laundry. Overall, we enjoyed our time in Bar Harbor and appreciate this home being shared with renters.
Stayed with a mixed group of family. It is impossible to beat the location and number of beds/ bathrooms.
It was what I would call old clean ( to be expected with a house on the historic register, but bothered a couple of people in our group). Bedding and rooms were clean but some things seemed to lack a bit of maintenance(windows, landscaping, outdoor areas could use a bit of clean up/improvement. exposed plywood floors on the third floor, covert with rugs and carpet runners)
Overall an excellent place that many in my group including myself loved. Lots of cool old features to explore in the house.
If you are a neat freak and looking for a modern experience probably not the place for you. If you don’t mind clean old historic properties with unbeatable location this is the place for you.

We make improvements each year to update our historic home. We do pride ourselves in it being clean so I am glad you found it such. Some of the things mentioned - exposed floors, original windows etc add to the charm and character of our old historic home.

My husband and I fell in love with Bar Harbor 15 years ago when we visited with our first child. We now have 4 children and Bar Harbor and Acadia have become one of our families favorite vacation places; so much so that we decided to purchase Sunset.
Why they chose this property
Sunset is one of those special places that is hard to describe. Listed on the National Historic Registry, it provides a spectacular view of Frenchman's Bay. We fell in love with it the first time we saw it and purchase it 1 month later.
What makes this property unique
Sunset's charm lies in its historical beauty, its views and its location. We have done our best to furnish the house with antiques to maintain its old world charm. It truly is a one of a kind property.
