A great house right on the water with access to the shore path (which is exactly where you want to be for walkability around Bar Harbor). We all (15 of us) had a fantastic July 4th week cooking at the house, sitting around the firepit, playing badminton and just hanging out on the porch. Formerly run as in inn, this home has a fabulous, rambling feel that is perfect for multi-family gatherings. A cherry on top is that Roberta (who lives next door) and Elizabeth are the most wonderful hosts.
We stayed here for a week with a large family (12 people), ages 10-80. The pictures on the listing don't do it justice. It's very spacious, with plenty of room and rooms for all. Old school charm, but very comfortably furnished in all bedrooms & living spaces. We enjoyed afternoon drinks on the porch while the kids played badminton in the yard and made scores by the fire pit.The location was perfect - less than 10 min walk to Main St, Bar Harbor, or via the Shore Path. Short driving to all parts of Acadia. The owners live nearby and were very friendly, but never intrusive. All of our questions received a quick & helpful response. We had a truly memorable family week here!
Perfect for our group of 10 friends for a week enjoying Acadia and surrounds. Fabulous home allowed us to cook and eat together, hang out, and also have quiet privacy if needed.
This was the perfect property for a multigenerational family vacation. The location was also ideal right on the water and a short walk to town and easy drive to Acadia National Park. The host was very helpful.
Great location, convenient to everything. Host was very friendly and accommodating. Beds were very comfortable and house was exceptionally clean. Relaxing in the Backyard with a water view was so special.
Wonderful, charming old home, full of character with plenty of places to eat, visit and enjoy the locale. The location can't be beat, steps from town, the ocean and a short drive into Acadia, easy to beat the crowds and get parking. We are coming back next year! Five stars.
Fabulous place to stay. Location is amazing and the view down to the water from the porch is beautiful. The lawn was lots of fun for the children and Roberta and Liz put up a badmitton set for us. We had a blast and liked everything about it for out family. The huge modern kitchen in this charming old house is well stocked. We hiked trails in Acadia until we could not walk anymore. Everyone in our family (15 of us) liked the fact that everything in the village was an easy walk and we could also walk to bar island land bridge which was fascinating. We want to return, it was our introduction to Maine.
Wonderful property in walking distance to the Shore Path, downtown Bar Harbor, close to bus routes, yet a very secluded feeling with privacy. The yard was exceptional for the little ones to run around and play, and relaxing for the adults. Roberta, Cecily, and family (property owners) were wonderful to chat with and always very helpful with any little needs or questions. The house is perfect for large family gatherings/reunions. We enjoyed our stay as it felt like home. Thanks you, Roberta and daughters for making our stay excellent!
Had small family reunion here. Perfect location and the host could not have been more wonderful. There was a bit of a musty smell in the 3rd floor that bothered my relatives allergies. The kitchen has been updated but the rest of the home reflected the age of the house and in need of some TLC. Bar Harbor is beautiful and the location next to the shore path and town is perfect.
This an amazing historic house in the perfect Location
Incredible experience. The house’s sweeping lawn goes down to the shore path where one can stroll along the harbor. There is a great view of the harbor from the house. The house, which is a beautiful, historic house dating from 1880, has beautiful details and character. The kitchen is huge and well stocked. It’s the perfect place for a large group. The host was gracious and helpful. This has to be the best place to rent in Bar Harbor.
This was a perfect retreat for our family of 12 (ages ranging from 10 months to 65). The house was just as imagined, a very New England cottage filled with love, care and memories (well preserved by the owners). There was ample space to spread out and a bedroom/bathroom for everyone. The yard was spacious and provided a gorgeous view of the sea with glorious morning sunrises (a must do if you are an early bird). The kitchen was fully equipped and updated to provide easily for family meals. The location could not be better, private, yet easy to walk into town or bike to Acadia.
Then.... there were our hosts and owners of the home, Roberta and Lisabeth (there are more family members, but that is who we met). Absolutely a delight, responsive, kind and had wonderful suggestions for activities during our stay. We felt welcomed and one could see how much Roberta treasures her home and delights in seeing families enjoy the lovely space.
We do hope to return some day for another stay!
Unfortunately this is a second hand report. My husband was hospitalized briefly the during the week before our trip. We considered going a few days late, until we realized that he had caught Covid in the hospital. On the other hand our 3 adult children, their spouses and our 4 grandchildren ages 2 weeks to 7 years had a wonderful stay. They loved everything about the house. They found the location perfect, with the shore and tide pools in the backyard and the town a short walk away. Great for trips to get ice cream. No need to find parking. They noted that sounds didn’t travel easily within the house which was very helpful with a baby in the group. They made good use of the large, well supplied kitchen. All of this with easy access to the park where they hiked, biked, climbed, walked and ran. They would all love to go back again next summer.
This is a grand old house in a perfect location for being able to explore all the beauty of Acadia National Park, or take a short walk into the town of Bar Harbor for shopping, restaurants and ice cream, and then retreat back to the house for some peaceful rest on the porch while the kids have fun running around in the large, private yard and down to the shoreline. It was so nice to take that peaceful walk into town and not have to worry about parking as Bar Harbor is quite busy! You can feel the ocean breeze and the temps cooling down as you get closer to the house walking in from town. The rooms are spacious, the kitchen updated, large, and well stocked, and the porch is great! We also rented the cottage on the same property which was wonderful for our two families with young kids. They were able to shuffle them off to bed away from the big house yet be close enough that they could wander back and forth easily between the two houses. The house is old and not updated to modern sized bathrooms and such, but it is clean and charming. We had a great vacation and loved our stay here at this house and in beautiful Acadia! The owner communicated with me many times during the months prior to our vacation as I planned this trip for 23 people ranging in age from 23months to 71yrs old. Roberta was so responsive to all my questions and she and the caretaker, Liz, were so very kind, helpful, and eager to make this a wonderful stay for all of us! We would highly recommend!
Great place for the family to spread out. Third floor bedrooms were used by my older granddaughters. Second floor had a room for each of my sons and their spouses. My daughter and her husband had a room with an adjoining bedroom with two single beds for her two daughters. My wife and I had a room on second (Roberta’s). All had bathrooms. A visiting priest friend used the first floor bedroom; so plenty of room.
The yard accommodated our evening fires and chats. You are right on the beach path so easy walks to harbor or daily walk/run and easy access to down town.
A few of the group played chess at night.
We went to Acadia Park most of the days either biking or driving and then hiking.
Walked to local restaurants for dinner several nights. Ice cream for my granddaughters every night. Celebrated a birthday ( daughter in law) with a home cooked meal by my son the chef.
We were close to nature with the birds and bees and squirrels.
All thoroughly enjoyed!
Our stay was from May 21,2023 to May 28, 2023…Shore Path Cottage is a lovely home in a perfect location in Bar Harbor. The home is located at the end of a street so nice and quiet. Just a block away from downtown we were able to walk to restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries and souvenir shops. There is a big backyard that we were able to play yard games and just relax in the sun. The home is located right on the shore path…a walk on the shore path takes you to downtown Bar Harbor. The owners daughter Elizbeth was a pleasure to talk to and she told us about one of her favorite hiking trails…Flying Mountain Loop, which ended up being one of my favorites, beautiful scenery. She also told us about the sunrise on the shore path right in front of the house….the sunrise was spectacular!
Please keep in mind that the home is historic with character and things have settled over the years😊 This was our family reunion so it was very nice that we all had bedrooms (most with private bathrooms.) The kitchen was newly renovated and for the most part well equipped. Dining table was able to fit the entire family for our meals and playing games in the evening.
The home is also perfect location to Acadia…just a 10 to 30 minute drive to great hiking trails. We had a wonderful week in Bar Harbor and would recommend staying at The Shore Path Cottage.
We have stayed all over Mt. Dessert island for over 40 years. We wanted a walk into town and Ocean view. The Ocean view has changed since the picture was posted. It’s narrow, and there’s a very large messy old overgrown garden and huge pile of wood in your view. I won’t lie, that was disappointing. The yard is large for games and we enjoyed the fire pit. It has a great wrap around porch. There is a little moth problem. I killed a bunch each night for my daughter and there’s a strong moth ball odor on the landing. I did let them know they need some new cooking utensils and pots. ( lots of grilling stuff though!) We hired a chef to come in and handles were crooked/loose etc. There are no linens if you do hire a chef fyi. Beds are comfy. Individual units in each room, but none of the fireplaces are wood burning( all our other houses were wood burning). They are electric and we couldn’t get them on. I asked how to turn them on and there was no switch where they said. We gave up but could have used them. The location is wonderful and they were so kind as to pick up a birthday cake I had ordered, because it was a Sunday and the bakery was closing before we could get there on Sunday.
They are very responsive when you reach out which is always a big plus.
