About this property

Enjoy a 5-bedroom waterfront cottage on a private beach in charming Amagansett.

Experience authentic Amagansett beachfront living on a private 1.5-mile stretch of Gardiner’s Bay. This classic farmhouse sits directly on the water, offering a simple, unhurried way to spend summer days—moving easily between the beach, the house, and time together with family and friends.

Originally built in 1900, the home has been lovingly held within the same family for generations and has long been known as the “Lobster House.” For decades, it has been the backdrop for barefoot summers, long beach days, family dinners on the porch, and evenings spent watching the sun set over Gardiner’s Bay.

The setting is what makes this home truly special. With direct beachfront access, wide-open bay views, and unforgettable sunsets each evening, life naturally moves between the water and the house. Wake up and step onto the sand within moments, spend the day on the beach, the porch, or the deck, and return to the house whenever you’re ready for lunch, a drink, or a break from the beach. The home sits along the same stretch of Gardiner’s Bay as the Devon Yacht Club, in a quiet residential pocket of Amagansett shoreline.

Despite its peaceful beachfront setting, you’re just a short drive from Amagansett, East Hampton, and Montauk, where you can pick up coffee at Jack’s Coffee, fresh produce at Amber Waves Farm, bagels from Goldberg’s on Montauk Highway, or head to longtime local favorites like The Clam Bar, LUNCH (home of the lobster roll), and the legendary Stephen Talkhouse for live music and a drink, along with many other local spots.

As a classic beach farmhouse, the home reflects a simpler way of spending summers. While there is no central air conditioning, the steady bay breeze, screened porch, and fans in each bedroom help keep the home comfortable throughout the season.

Inside, the home is designed for relaxed, shared living. The main floor features a spacious living room and an open dining area that naturally becomes a gathering place after a day at the beach. The fully stocked kitchen opens directly onto a large screened-in porch—perfect for slow breakfasts, long dinners, and evenings spent listening to the water. Also on the main level is the primary suite, featuring a king bed, a full bathroom, and doors that open toward the beach path.

Upstairs, a large open common space with a futon creates another comfortable place to gather, read, or unwind after a day outside, surrounded by four bedrooms. Two overlook the bay—a queen bedroom and a room with two twin beds—both offering beautiful water views. The remaining bedrooms include a second king bedroom and a bunk room that’s perfect for children or larger families. This floor also includes a convenient half bath and a separate shower room.

Outside, the raised deck offers panoramic views of Gardiner’s Bay, while the outdoor shower makes rinsing off after a swim part of the rhythm of the day. From there, a private path leads directly to the beach, making it easy to spend the entire day by the water.

Whether your perfect summer day looks like swimming in the bay, reading on the porch, long dinners with family, or simply watching the sunset together, the Lobster House offers a timeless beachfront escape where the best parts of summer happen naturally.

We had an absolutely idealic time here at the Lobster House. Beautiful house, rich with history and perfect for a relaxing stay with my family, across three generations. The house is very well considered for accomodating guests and there is everything you need from towels and bedding, very well stocked kitchen utensils, water activities and plenty of spots to lounge and read and sleep and relax and enjoy. Optimal location on the bay and good to get to both Amagansett and Montauk. We will be back!
